Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

just to echo what someone else has said
- morris has been identified as a potential assistant
- holbrook more likely to replace dean young in NQ
- dogs arent in the race for fainu’s, commited to burton at 6 and sexton at 7 for next year, saving all of their money for haas

- simpkin to parra could happen, early word was waqa blake potentially swapped

- laurie begged to go back to penrith, tigers offered a 1 year deal, panthers 1 year plus team option

- noffa is being heavily shopped, club has said no guarantee of first grade next year

- blore shopping is now off table
Following on from @kade7 mail ...

Historical media reports indicate Ben Hornby & John Morris are off contract after this season at the Rabbitohs, Steve Georgallis is in the 3rd year of a 3-year deal at the Cowboys, while Josh Hannay still has another year on his deal at the Sharks.

So if Holbrook is out of the equation, we may stand a chance of landing one of Hornby or Morris or the very experienced Georgallis. We would have to entice with a much superior $$$ package and probably advise they would be main Assistant Coach.

EELS LOSE YOUNG GUN HALFBACK

The Raiders have reportedly poached one of the most in-demand halfbacks from the Eels, with Ethan Sanders signing a contract with the Canberra club.

According to the SMH, the young gun will join Ricky Stuart’s Raiders from 2025, putting pen to paper on a two-year deal.

Sanders starred for NSW in the under 19s Origin and was awarded Player of the Match honours in Parramatta’s SG Ball grand final victory.

He remain contracted with the Eels until the end of the 2024 season, but Parramatta powerbrokers reportedly may allow him to depart early.

Sanders would have faced stiff competition for first grade minutes, with both Mitchell Moses and Dylan Brown signing long-term contracts.

you don’t think Naden would be a better option?
I do

Sadly Laurie has lost all interest. You can see it in the way he plays now.
Naden may similarly be wanting to leave. Which is actually quite sad because Naden can play, can tackle better then almost everyone below 6 and really is what we need long term.

Our team management hasn't worked with Laurie or Naden.

How can this deal actually be signed off?
Is it different rules for junior players contracted long term but not on top 30 contracts. If so god help us with our juniors.

Now that the AJ wing experiment is hopefully over forever…

Naden is signed another two years, and I can’t see other teams being all that interested based on what he has shown here… so hope he is depth moving forward and not pencilled in next year as a statyer … he seems very ill disciplined in my opinion …

I’ve never thought Laurie was an NRL fullback… although I thought they may have given him a go at 6 before now… desperate times and all that …However .. I’m not going to be shedding any tears over him moving on… he won’t be seeing a lot of first grade at Penrith

He is there to protect Benji, who is coaching the side. His role is to be a minder, which he is doing whilst Benji learns the ropes. Anyone thinking that Sheens is coaching the side is deluded.
The thing is, under no circumstances should Benji be coaching the side. He's never been involved in coaching, he has zero experience. He needs to earn the right to coach, like 99% of all other coaches out there. 2 years as an assistant observing may have been sufficient for him to make the step up, if he's coaching us then the entire football department has failed completely.

Why not just chuck the entire 2022 Wests Harold.Matts team in first grade next week too while we're at it.!

re: Sanders, how can anyone in their right mind believe we were ever in the hunt for him?

we are a graveyard for young halfbacks. besides Scott Prince, have any of the young 7s we've placed faith in since (Lui, Lazarus, Moltzen, Miller, Brooks, Moses, Madden) actually been looked after properly? survey says no. his management would've steered him well clear, and rightly so.

it is also abundantly obvious that we are after an experienced half. look at the names. Moses, Williams, Pearce, Johnson, Brooks* and now Sezer. they clearly have someone in mind that will be the long term 7 that will be ready in 1-2 years. sounds like Alex Conti to me, so why sign a 19 year old who will block his pathway?

Fainu being offered a 4 year deal indicates that Large is still a little while off and may come into grade via the backline, so that point is null and void.
