Stefano Utoikamanu #241

Played enough to know that he wasn’t beating that Roosters pack single handedly.
LOL would JWH say the same thing ? Would Blocker ? Would Carroll ? Would Hass ? Would Webcke ? Would Civoneciva ?
This would all be fine for just another player ! But he wants out and wants 1mil a year ! So your logic is completely flawed and indicative of why the tigers sucked for 12 years .
The big dogs are out in front leading by example , and dragging everyone else with them . And all his talk the last month or too is that he’s a big dog and wants to play finals and get paid like big dogs do …. I don’t see it

The Roosters pack is balanced and powerful JWH, Collin’s, May, Leniu and Whyte. He wasn’t doing much today against that pack. Issue is when you want 900k you have to take up that challenge. It was the same against Haas and Carrigan and Cambo.

What does this mean? Who said he should beat a team single handedly?
He didn’t pull his weight. All talk, no follow through.
Like I said, Woodsy mark 2
Tbh to woodsy he would get 100m every game . It would just be ineffective . Stef sends someone flying every game , but drops the moment he does . . We need a forward leader . And I don’t think stefano is that guy !

The best players stand up and try their guts out and even if being flogged, never back down.
Against top opposition it’s the perfect opportunity for you to bust your arse to show what you’ve got.
Stef is a bench prop at best.

I take your point that he cannot do it single handedly but it’s the initiative and leadership to inspire your team to change the flow is what is perhaps missing. A JFH, JWH or Haas type play that gets the team on the front foot and gives others self belief.

He doesn’t tackle people, he gives them hugs.
Give him some backs that can make line breaks, score tries and be competent enough to catch high balls and defend one on one and it would be very different.
A bit of reward for effort.
Every time our backs have played their part our forwards have finished well on top, it’s not a coincidence.

17 big dogs generally beats 3 or 4 big dogs. About 40-6.

I don’t have him in that bracket yet tbf. I think he’ll get there. He’s a peg or two below.

I’m really steadfast in believing that your prop can only lay a platform. When the opposition centres start making yours look like amateurs, that platform is null and void.

Our young side got blown away by probably the best roster in the comp. Our edges were totally carved up. The momentum the Roosters had lasted most of the game. Just saying a prop wasn’t going to arrest the damage today.

Our forwards as a unit were soundly beaten.

Singling out our better players for criticism seems counter productive to me.

Agreed, but if Utoikamanu is expecting to be paid the salary of up to say 6 of his lowest paid team-mates in the top 30, then they have the right to expect him to be leading the team in at least most matches, and certainly getting more than a paltry 40 to 70 metres which he too often dishes up.

He had one good run late in one of our early sets and then basically put the cue in the rack hit-up wise.

I’d have to watch the game again to see if he was walking or if we just started to play panic catch up footy not conducive to many Stef hit ups. I suspect more of the latter.

Maybe he thought he was in the battle until Joey Manu did his thing.

Then those thoughts of leaving may have come over him again. 🤔

Your lack of contrition is not a strong virtue . It’s all good to be stuck in your opinions and back yourself , but this is bordering on something else .
I was with you on Brooks , as I always felt like you could win with him , if you surrounded him with quality . But he had heart and was in most games (sometimes you wished he wasn’t ) .
How you can advocate for a front rower who wants to leave the club , talks shit all week about one of the best enforcers / props the game has ever seen (god I hate saying that … yuck) , and puts in an inept performance like that …. Is just I don’t know.
I don’t think you can possibly believe what you’re saying .

I think he is going to be a great front rower in the league at some point and that’s not just yet.

I also didn’t see his comments through the week.

Letting our best players leave and having our fan’s critical of them all the time is no way to improve imo.

I believe this more than anything is behind his desire to look around.
