Stefano Utoikamanu #241

All I am concerned about is the amount $ that has been mentioned.
He is ok for no longer than 20 minute stints,
Let’s look at his value comparing him to Pat Carrigan who played 80 minutes in a State of Origin game.
I think there are more middle forwards around today that are in Stefano’s group that should lower the wage compared to players like
Carrigan
Yeo
Hopgood

And they pay Klemmer $800k a year… he is not worth half that

Still not sorted , wonder how he goes today , I hope well but last bunch of weeks been poor , needs the contract sorted and if by chance he is still not wanting to sign our upgrade and extension I feel we should pull the deal it’s just dragging on to long , seems like he is just waiting for any offer better or equal to ours , Drags , Raiders , , Panthers Roosters all, siad no that’s not a good look and ts not about winning this is about money and winning he wants Panthers to pay him $ 800 k over 4/5 years , at present he is worth $ 450 over 3

Who cares if it’s “ not a good look”? Not much that happens around this club is ..

it only takes one team to sign him …. I still suspect he is gone ..15 can knock him back and the 16th club can still get him

Klemmer imo is passing too much. It’s obviously to suit the game plan but doesn’t make his game look good. But aside from that he’s a reasonable safe low error option.
Bateman for mine is trying too hard. Put him in a better side and he will be in the top half of players on ground.
Both players will be better if the team around them lift their game.
While they may not be earning their value atm I think their contracts are not as detrimental in years and value as packer,Josh Reynolds and mbye were

I think both were one year too long, but we probably had to bcoz we were spooners. That sentiment needs to stop.
With Klem I remember him doing an interview his first pre season with us. While Sheens had everyone doing 200 passes a day instead of 200 tackles per day, he was also training players in more than one position. Klem said how refreshing it was to be playing lock and being allowed to pass the ball. I think Klem has let this filter into his game while here. This stupidity needs to stop also. He needs to hold the ball, run hard and tackle hard. That’s it.

Klemmer, contract ends at the end of 2025 (mutual option for 2026)

Bateman, contracted for 2025 and 2026.

That's the positive.
Demps any idea how the mutual option works, if Klemmer wants to enact the option for one more year but the club doesn't want to does he still get the extra year?

Bateman usually bails out before his contract ends and i hope it happens again, unfortunately Klemmer will probably stick till the bitter end. Both were paid too much for too long

Klemmer and Bateman should be leading from the front not the other way around. Who are the senior players here. It's all on them they are both rubbish.

I've always been under the belief that MO required both to want the extension.

If the club doesn't want it, it isn't activated.

Hoping we say farewell and spend the money elsewhere.

Key: Player options (PO), club options (CO) and mutual options (MO).

PO - The player can decide to exercise additional years in the contract.

CO - The club has the option to extend a player's contract for the additional year/s.

MO - The player and club must come to an agreement to activate extra year/s.

In terms of Klemmer & Bateman-

As someone noted in another thread- there are only 2-3 players in the squad that actively can be seen counting the defensive numbers & trying to get others to number up correctly.

That'd be these 2 guys.

Are they paid too much? Probably.

Have they stopped us signing better players? No.

Klemmer isn't the guy he was in his early career attack-wise. But he is a much safer defender. He still gets you around 120m a game (when he plays more minutes than he sits) but it concerns me that he doesn't appear to 'win' physical encounters one-on-one as much. I think he would benefit from a greater focus on strength training to hold the middle. What he ISN'T doing- is phoning it in.

Bateman is one of the very few guys that can win one-on-one in defence. He's not an attacking superstar (but he's hardly the Lone Ranger there) but he doesn't get bullied & walked over either the way some of our guys do. I think he holds far more value than he's given credit for.

i think we need Bateman to keep the defence tight. He will be a good steady hand to keep while some young guns come through. Only proviso is he needs to keep cool and be told to keep it simple in his attacking game. Role should be to keep the ruck tight and tackle all game ala Liam Fulton.

Bateman consistently gets caught at marker in the middle unnecessarily. Plenty of times he gets too emotional and tries to come up with something in the middle. He needs to hold his position. He has zero discipline for behaviour and positioning.

When has Bateman ever showed he is a "good steady hand"? He is the complete opposite of that.
