I think our go forward is generally good when Royce is on the field and we have our fair share of possession, however he struggles noticeably to get back in position when defending back to back sets or when our opponents are offloading. His numbers are well down on what he has done the last few years. That probably is due to being in a weaker team but given his limited minutes role I thought they would be pretty similar despite the different quality around him.
Additionally there has been a few games every year where Sharks were down on troops and he put in bigger shifts without much of a drop in performance. As such I was expecting him to do 30-35 minutes a game rather than 20-25 minutes.
It certainly puts a bigger workload on our other middle forwards when it happens.
This is why we have to be very careful of who we play on our edges as although I agree Seyfarth is not offering us near enough from an attacking point of view, he never shirks his task defensively.
It’s all about balance between workers and impact players and we don’t appear to have the right balance at the moment.
