Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Shame to lose Api as he probably still has a few really good years left in him but it's the wrong call retaining Api at the expense of Tallyn in my opinion.
We wouldn’t lose Api until season 27.
That’s still potentially 35+ more games with us.
If we can squeeze the juice out of him this year and next at the current rate, I’d suggest he wouldn’t have a lot left from 27 onwards anyway.

Who was the last junior we produced who either spent their whole career here, or are in the process of it? It’s a pretty short list.
GNR, this morning you were arguing that we have an overinflated sense of how good our juniors are and were skeptical of giving Luke Lauli'li a long extension. It really does seem like you just wait for any chance to stick the boot into the club.

"Someone did suggest the other day we sign him for 4 years. You can’t say that there isn’t an inflated opinion of our juniors. Not just now. It’s always been that way. I guess when you are a poor club, you’re forever looking for the next great white hope"

Are our juniors good and worth keeping or not?

By making an admittedly short list, we'd be sweeping up the last 15 years of mediocrity in it.

Our best bet, if we want to consider only the current regime, is to consider all the current juniors who are either on the cusp or are in the current first grade setup, whom we have managed bring through/keep in the setup/re-sign.

The likes of Tallyn himself (whom we don't know the outcome yet), Mason, Pole, Seyfarth, Luke L, Kit, Sukkar, et al.

Then there's others who we've brought in young who've seen all (or basically all) of their footy with us. This list includes the likes of all three of the Fainu boys and Bula.

Then there's the next wave of cubs coming through, which we've managed to keep most of the big ones; Makasini, Godinet, Taupau-Moors and Haywood. All of which have very recently re-signed. You'll never keep them all, the Large boys for example, but we've retained some of our brightest.

All of those players have expressed how happy they are at the club and many of them have recently resigned. Tallyn himself has made it clear through Tartak that he loves the Tigers and would rather stay aswell.

So, given the current regime, which I think we can all agree is an entirely new phase of this club, I think the junior situation, including retention and attitude towards the club, is far better than your post would suggest, even if it has some merit.

There is a new rule from (next year?) that you can sign PNG players for the next 2 years and it sits outside the cap to help develop them for 2028 or so.

I am all for it, but would rather a big tough forward, even if they are only a 15 min forward to add stocks to us there.
That would be 2 x 15 min forwards we would have that could contribute to less than 1/2 a game

The club appears to be acting in a more than fair manner to Da Silva. Kudos to the club as it would be easy to just say no. His player manager has a few clients at our club so I am optimistic more of his very good players, whether they be established or the cream of the rising stars, end up at WTs. It is easy to criticise the club but I won't in this instance.

I was underwhelmed with Wood the 1/2. All the hype etc. Outplayed by the QLD 1/2.
Hogged the ball too many times trying to go it alone and score. The backline had no chance to shine.
I thought the same thing. He created a couple of nice breaks in the second half and but overall he starved the backline of any fast ball.
