I actually have a different take on this and from this I actually wish the players wouldnt perform for 80mins.
Growing up I played 3 main sports and two of them I played very high levels (league was the one that wasnt).
In my best sport, I was close to "making it" but played in a high intensity position. It wasnt until an international player told me to NOT "play for the 80mins" that my game improved. The whole point was to intentionally select parts of the game that you were NOT REQUIRED to be switched on 100% and in those moments intentionally relax and distract yourself. The critical thing is to then know the triggers in the game to switch back on and when you switch back on, it has to be 100%.
I have regularly thought that this translates well to Rugba leeg and it extends your "mental stamina" through a game.
Yeah ..but you need to be mentally switched on for 80 minutes ....I think most people understand you can physically switch off for very small portions of the game
I disagree, which is pretty much the point of my post.
One of my simplest goals I had was If I wasn't doing something on the footy field I was helping someone who was .....you were always on the ball 100% ..especially mentally ...working out how to break a side down that you were struggling to score against or defend against .....maybe it was the position I played ....but that's how it was
So what you’re really saying is that you had plenty of time to think while you were peeling oranges ?
I'd squeeze the oranges into players cuts ...get them in the right frame of mind ...we had trainers that did that ...freezing cold night in Ipswich ...they'd squuze freezing cold water bottles down ya jocks ......you'd be pissed off just as you were heading out after HT
When is it ever freezing cold in Ipswich? I thought Queensland was supposed to be God’s country
