A crucial period for Madge...

I think Anthony Griffin should be employed to look after all the young guys - he did a great job at the Pamfers - before they went off with Gould / Cleary etc. scenario. They are reaping the benefit he gave them now though.

The facts are under Voldemort the team improved to win 5 of the 1st 6 games and then secret meetings and revenge on Gould derailed a promising season.
Under Maguire the team has gone backwards and don't believe what the players say to the media you just have to put yourself in their shoes every Tuesday when the coach announces the team list and you don't know why you been dropped and others continually get picked who've been ordinary at best 🤦‍♂️.
Maguire needs to prove something before extending

That's what I've been told in regards to the Riff.
Gould set up the system/program, Griffin found the players & developed them and Chin Snr swooped in for the glory

Like the idea of Griffin in Junior Development role. Didn't our defence improve when the late Steven Folkes was in charge. Maybe Dean Pay can take over defence. I don't think our current support staff are much chop.

I'm just not sure Madge is the answer ......Ok you'd go to Souths and take a chance with Madge's work ethic because you could see they were close to a premiership

But come to the WT's ...we are a hemisphere away from where Souths were when Madge took over and its probably 3 seasons until we even make the 8

That is what you have to get past in most players minds

I expect finals next year, anything less is a joke.

Lots of the cap space is still tied up on Cleary signings though. It’s not like Madge hasn’t tried moving on dead weight, the Reynolds situation has been played out very publicly, and I imagine there would be more going on behind closed doors.

He can’t just say “Mbye, Russell, Jrey, McQueen time to go fellas” and they magically are off our books. Wish it were that simple, but the cap is stifling our opportunity, albeit we look flat nonetheless with who we do have playing well below potential.

According to zero tackle;
Mbye 950k, Jrey 750k, Packer 700k
According to fox sports;
McQueen 400k
And don’t forget our cap penalty

If Madge has that money available maybe we could pick up a David Fifita like marquee signing. But until the debts are paid we are left trying to sign young up and comers who will be cheap with potential upside.

Madge has no authority to just make those contracts just disappear. I like Madge as a coach and the above should not be a gripe for supporters. If I’m being critical of Madge, it’s around the recruitment (or lack thereof) of a goal kicker, a playmaker that can run the team, and maybe a specialist hooker (depending on how long Grant scenario was going on behind closed doors). However this also falls onto Hartigan and Co. but it’s not like there’s a bunch of options available the last off season.

Madge is the Only one who has the resolve and vision to get the tigers out of the crap that this club has been for almost the entirety of our existence.

Apart from 2005, We have been largely the unstable, unpredictable club that few aspire to join.

We need to change the expectations in terms of performance, and if that means occasionally we loose a talented player who isn't willing to work hard then that's OK in the long run.

Unfortunately there is no line ti pick up any of our highest paid players. We have to ride the poor recruitment decisions of previous coaches for another year yet.

Madge is the only One.

You change coach again - we are back to square one.

You cannot win any race, if you keep going back to the start.

Madge is it - stick with him or perish.

The question was for how long..

Looks like an extension until 2023 is on the cards..next year the same roster issue will continue..you have stated that no one wants our duds..we are stuck with them..

So..If it's another 3 years without finals is that acceptable

So Madge is already contracted till 2021.
My suggestion is that we do what the Titans did extend the coaches contract now but only for another 2 years.
I think if he can't get ride of some of the deadwood this next season he should be able to by 2022 and should make finals at least in 2022 & 2023.
In reality i don't mind Todd Payten being an ex Tigers player as the next coach its always a matter of timing.

Well suggestion only, hate to see you 6 feet under, seems like he has been in a few systems now and doing well as care taker coach at the Warriors. Ex player and won a premiership but he will most likely get the cowboys gig anyway, see how he goes there, always about timing.

Personally don't think Madge is going anywhere.

If Tigers got rid of him for "The Whiteanter" or anyone else, it would see us regress for at least another five years.

That’s pretty unrealistic IMO. Would have to be some amazing recruitment drive to make us into a top 8 team next year.

2022 is the year there’s no excuses for Madge, full salary cap control, squad he wants absolutely no excuses. Next year he’ll still be building us unfortunately but hopefully our squad looks a bit better

Every single player that’s been dropped has said they’ve been told exactly what they need to fix and that Madge is a very honest coach. I don’t know why you assume players don’t know why they’re being dropped, Benji knew why, brooks knew why, I think they all know why.

Disappointing out of 16 teams we can't come 8th, nearly 10 years on its more then bad luck. Madge has next year and if still can't produce then time to start again sadly

So now there seems to be a growing consensus that it is okay to miss the finals for a decade and three years under coaching of the chosen one. What the hell. No way!

A lot has changed since last year. For me it’ll depend on how much the team changes for next season. If we can make 3-4 good quality signings then I’ll be expecting finals. If we only make 1 or 2 signings and have to keep on with our current halves then no way we make finals

Three years as a coach is not that long especially when it takes you 2-3 years to clean up the mess of the previous coach.
