I have read a number of posts here about LO being Balmain's spiritual home but it is not the spiritual home of the Wests Tigers.

The article above says that and people are still complaining about the inaccuracy.
Can't have it both ways.

Whilst on inaccuracy - I believe that the JV chose the WT colours from a combination of Western Suburbs black and white and Balmains black and gold. So it became black, white and gold. Where does the orange come from?

Balmain never played in orange or any derivative of orange.

So old Wests supporters get upset about WT being called Balmain.
Old Balmain supporters get upset about WT wearing orange and not gold.

That is 50/50 so I guess it is all good.

That comparison is nonsensical. Wests supporters get upset that there is a perception that we are a rebranded Balmain. No one will interpret us as the Magpies playing in a different shade of orange.

Merely pointing out the inaccuracy of orange substituted for gold.

But whatever GNR - you are right as usual.

Not saying you don't have a point about being annoyed at the different shade of colour, but it is not comparable to the club perceived as Balmain. No one perceives the club as the Magpies because of a different shade of colour. Its not the same.

I don't think anyone genuinely perceives the club as a rebadged Balmain either!

Well when you read articles like the one Ink posted above, and Freddy calling them Balmain, that's hard to swallow.

I do understand that but I don't think even Freddy genuinely believes it is a rebadged Balmain, he is just an idiot who made a mistake and called the club the wrong name!

You said it never happens

I didn't say it never happens, I said I hadn't heard anyone say it in a long time.

But also, if that's the limit of the complaint, I can't say I really care. How petty do you have to be if Freddy calls us "Balmain" to get all upset about it. Especially when we all know it's mostly Wests calling the shots now.

2002 I totally get where they are coming from. 2019, not so much.

What is it about the article, I don't see any issue?

Leichhardt is Balmain's spiritual home. Literally, in spirit, because Balmain Tigers don't have a senior side and don't play there any more.

The paper was smart enough not to say "Wests Tigers' spiritual home ground", because it isn't. This weekend will be our 81st JV match at LO; we've already played 81 at Campbelltown. But obviously that is no more striking than the 85 matches we've played at ANZ and 42 at SFS. In that regard, WT don't really have a "spiritual" home as such.

And I agree with @cochise, Freddy is a boofhead of the highest order, I can't see why people would make a fuss about his slip-ups and mistakes. There'd be a lot of fuss being made ultimately, because the man is happily playing the buffoon every week.

The goal posts are being moved. It started out as these things don't happen, but when proven otherwise, its ''so what, that doesn't mean anything''.

I've never said it doesn't happen, I did say I haven't heard it in a while! I have maintained throughout this conversation that I think that this whole rebadged Balmain thing and the LO being our spiritual homeground is an overreaction. I see LO being an important part of the history of this club just as Pratten Park and Lidcombe Oval are!

When I married my wife, her family became important to me, I see this as the same. The histories of Balmain and Wests Magpies are both now a part of my life but they are in the past. I could sit here and point out things that both parental sides have lost in the merger and areas where they lack recognition but I do not care because Wests Tigers are now my team and Balmain and the Magpies are the past, an important past but the past nevertheless!

Storm in a teacup.
Nothing wrong with the article ... in fact it's well written.
The writer correctly calls us the WestsTigers but also correctly notes that Leichhardt is (was) Balmain's spiritual home ground .
I'm not sure if WestsTigers have got what you would call a 'spiritual home ground' yet but it's also probably the closest in most people's eyes.
Same as I would say Lidcombe was Western Suburbs 'spiritual' home ground if the current team played there (would love to see that).
Also don't forget they were referring to it being Farah's last game in that paragraph... it was a direct reference to him being a Balmain junior.

LO is called our spiritual home as the tigers have played there since the 30's. Where's wests spiritual home? Lidcombe holds a special place to me but other old wests fans might say Pratten or Cambo. Wests have always been nomads.

@GNR4LIFE I can’t believe that you blokes are continuing the West’s v Balmain thing after all these years and especially in the same week as one of the most important games in West Tigers recent history.
If you keep on digging up corpses, they continue to stink, reality is, West’s would have been dead without the amalgamation, Balmain are now dead due to mismanagement, so luckily we are now West Tigers, so give the crap a break or do it on PM, or go have a sook in private, your West’s run the show because they deserve to.

Mate, not being smart but its Wests, not West. And there's no apostrophe. Come on.

Not intelligent, common sense. How many team names have apostraphe's in them.

Might be West Tigers to you - but the official name is Wests Tigers.

20 years guys! Shot at a finals birth at a packed ground with folks that support your team and people are posting shit stiring articles, how much white is is the jersey or if the apostrophe is in the logo.

I have thought this for a while but I think we ( any fans pre merge) have to literally die off before this conversations go the way of Balmain / western suburbs-extinct.

The apostrophe isn't a Wests vs Balmain thing, its a common sense thing. You can at least spell it the right way.

@cktiger Well, it can be called West Tigers or Balmain (with West Tigers Logo advertised) leagues Club, its in our best interest as West Tigers members/supporters/juniors, that it gets up and operating.

If these are the hangups some of you have then life really isn't that bad.
