Big name player in trouble

There has been a culture change in the media, now it is often women being commentators, reporters etc. that a lot of guys are not used to. I prefer guys commentating on male games and females on female games in all sports. They should not be sending females in male dressing rooms, surely they can stay outside the door. Do we see males reporters going into female dressing rooms? If the present mix-mix continues then the males should be professional in their attitude to fellow professionals when being interviewed etc but both male sportsmen and female commentators should not be in this position. A female reporter could easily give the wrong signal if they admire a real hunk almost nude. But the guy would not be complaining like the females complain.

Man, your opinion belongs in the dark ages. EEO irrespective of gender, religion, culture, sexuality? It's been around for decades.

Frankly, I think a lot of female commentators are just making general comments, example on league, and not really into it, whereas having an ex-expert player as commentator they can educate us etc and give us more understanding. That's what I miss. I think have females for female games to give them equal opportunity and it fits the sexuality of that game. Would a male commentator complain if a hot female sports person gave him a wink and wobble in the dressing shed - I doubt it. Give the guys a break.

I actually sat down to watch the Pearce video in full this arvo, beyond just the pics I've seen in the paper. Boy, what an anti-climax! The hysteria is even less reasonable than I originally thought.

Mine ….and I think many many peoples initial reaction after first seeing it last night, after the build up we all read about
Its always interesting though to see such a broad range of peoples morals, ethics, call it what you will....when an incident like this occurs....but then again its always on display at the games as well.
Its amusing when corp box guests that usually are more at home on the hill are suddenly right next to the reserve seated season ticket holder...sometimes the behaviours of some dont sit too well with others.
We are all different

Yep. The way it was built up i was legitimately expecting bestiality.

Thats right. Always someone else fault. This time it was the guy who filmed it.

So lets get back to the original issue. It wasnt the privacy of his own home or a friends barbecue. It was someone else home whom he had apparently been invited into , initially. This means he was a guest and should at least behave with some dignity and respect.

He forced himself physically onto a female who was not interested in his advances.

He urinated on the lounge, someone elses property and then had to be repeatedly asked to leave. And dry humped the dog for good measure.

Youre right, it was the camera mans fault, not the guy who is paid good money by a club, sponsors and fans to behave like a human on and off the field….

Oh, and a guy who has been chosen by that club to be a leader and set an example for younger players, AND ACCEPTED THAT POSITION AND ALL THAT COMES WITH IT.

What a ridiculously sensible post.

Massive LOL @ Geyer taking the high road. I like the bloke, but he was anything but a saint, on or off the pitch.

FORMER Origin star Mark Geyer made his thoughts on the Pearce situation clear on Triple M’s The Grill Team on Thursday morning, saying the halfback should be made to step away from the game for 12 months and get a “real job”.

“I saw a bloke next level drunk. I saw a bloke with a massive problem,” Geyer said in a pre-recorded message.

“A, forcing himself on to a girl in her own home. B, incoherent saying he was both gay and Aboriginal in the same sentence. C, performing a lewd sex act on a small dog,” he continued.

“Was it the worst thing I’ve ever seen? Probably not, but it’s right up there. The blame game card can not be played any more. This is a bloke who’s 26, he’s not a rookie. This is Pearce’s fourth or fifth indiscretion. “He needs to be taken out of the system that he joined as a kid to appreciate what he’s got. Mitchell Pearce needs help. He’s obviously powerless when affected by alcohol and can not control his behaviour. He needs to be suspended for 12 months, get a real job away from football and undergo both counselling and rehab.

“I can only imagine how his parents would be feeling today. If I saw my son on a video recording acting that way I’d kick his arse from here to Katoomba.

“Pearce needs helps and needs to be as far away from footy as possible.”

Dont think anyone has said it is anyone else's fault except Pearce's and as far as I can see he is the only one being held accountable for it. But do we really want to live in a society that allows such an invasion of someone's privacy no matter how distasteful some may find their actions, for monetary purposes if they a have a profile, or just for humiliation sake if they dont?If the person who filmed that was so appalled by his behaviour and wanted action taken against him they could have contacted the club and the NRL both. But Current Affair and the Telegraph - there can be only one motivation for that and what a valuable little piece of video it proved to be.

I feel sorry for them when they get penalised so much for just being stupid on the grog when they have not really hurt anyone. It should have been kept under wraps. Don't his friends want to protect him?

Agreed,if he had bashed someone or a gal or something like that fair call but for being a dill on the soup??As far as I can see he hasnt broken any laws at all.

The Johhny Do-gooders are taking over the building.

When did we become so judgy???

Arent we renowned for our larrikan spirit, sense of fun.

Doesnt look like it.

I can answer for me, but not others.

As soon as someone's "fun" physically, emotionally or psychologically has a detrimental effect on others then I have an issue with it.

I don't think my view is unreasonable.

And I've done stupid things on the grog before, but I feel genuine remorse for the poor people who had to put up with that stupidity. I don't choose to laugh off my mistakes and not improve my behaviour. It is possible to get wasted and have a good time without harassing people, urinating on yourself or the property of others or trying to hump a dog. If that's too much for some people maybe they need rehab, nor footy.

Well said OMT. He can never erase this. It will always be there for anyone to see. Just a click on his name and the humiliating video shows up…Again and again..

My last words on the subject,I worked for forty odd years for a major Australian company and wore a company issued uniform,in the early days it was a matter of taking off your ID card and tie and you could do anything and it was kosher, and we did, but this all changed as the years went on and the past 15 years the company took a zero tolerance approach to any bad behaviour 24/7.

Now young Mitch is either brain dead or just stupid if he thinks he is bullet proof, there are people preying on blokes like Pearce to make a arse of themself and unlike the bloke who stands for 12hours a day at the airport hopping to get a snap of a plane crash to make a dollar, following a bloke Junior-junior when he is on the piss is like backing Phar Lap in the Gosford Cup. Add to the fact he a second time offender, he needs a massive rocket.

The people I feel sorry for are his Mum and Dad,sister and people in the NRL who have supported him only to be let down. Anyway I suppose the kid must be doing it tough now and will for a long time, but how many chances do you give a mug

A real job? Like talking crap on the radio with your cohost who was involved in his own scandal? Next thing you know Julian O'Neill will be saying how appalled he is about the who,e thing.

I don't know how $50K isn't a decent hurt, don't care what his total wage is, that's still a heft hunk of money.

Its been reported his wage is $750.000 a season. So $50.000 is pocket change for him.

100% Agree. Great post Swordy!

He's not the games responsibility and the game will be no worse off without him. Maybe it'll be better off. Boot him off.

Do you really believe monetary fines imposed by clubs to the 'gods of their teams' is ever paid by the said player?

Some very interesting view points in here.

It wasn't that long ago a majority were happy to kick a player out of the game for taking a leak.

It's good to hear some views have changed and we are starting to realise how the media blow these things out of proportion.

FTR, Mitchell is a dill being caught out like he has. Shouldn't of been let out so long and the club is just as responsible this time.

Who is saying this?

You haven't seen the posts or news feeds about how this camerman 'sold' his video and that was wrong and immoral, or how this is wrong to share the video because it was in private etc etc? Some definitely trying to set up a case for shared blame. Me thinks not.

As far as you know mate….
I know for a fact there has been many more incidents with this guy that have been swept under the rug.
Guy is an egomaniac that thinks he can get away with everything, typical meat head jock. I hope he gets sacked.

Matt Johns harping on about how it has hurt his family was laughable as well given his history. Pots, kettles and all that jazz.
