Brooks is no good

Brooks is not a 7!

Please bring Nathan Cleary over Ivan, his kicking game and the way he controls his side at such a young age is so exciting, and he's goalkicking is superb.

I've got a suggestion, what does everyone think about trying to turn Brooks into a fullback?

He's got a good running game, and his passing game has shades of brilliance, his 3 on 2 ability can be used more often.

May struggle under the highball dont you think? Also having him as the last line of defence doesnt inspire confidence.

Five eighth or hooker or better still somewhere in reggies.

Was just a suggestion, I wouldn't do it. But he does have talent and I just don't think his a 7, maybe a 6 and let him just run and pass?

Nothing about Luke Brooks convinces me he will ever lead this club to the promised land.

I just think his lack of development is a massive disappointment.

If we had other options I would nearly be saying it's time to cut our losses on him.

For me he lacks the vision of the good halves and his kicking game is rubbish. Decent running game but thats about it.

He will always have moments however moments is not enough after nearly 80 games. You need to be owning games and controlling them. He does neither.

I will reserve judgement until the end of next year. There are a couple of team improvements that could help his game:
- will be playing behind a pack that hopefully has more go forward, has the opposition back pedalling and will give him time with the ball
- will have a 5/8 with more experience in the side

Concerns are whether his kicking game will improve, and how much support Reynolds will provide (kicking game does not look great based on dogs), and the fact that 3/4 of the spine are relatively inexperienced in their position. Lolo also seems to have a better long passing game and ability to play what is in front of him.

He may also benefit through Tedesco leaving in that Lolo may run more traditional lines, rather than running back and forwards across the field like an under 7's player looking for a gap. This lets the defence get set and our attack not knowing where we will be attacking from.

Harvey - I don't think anyone else is the problem except Brooks. I think he is copping it too harshly but I also think he is responsible as an example for his kicking game.

I'll give him some more time as well but mainly because I don't think he is as bad as what is stated on here.

He has no mongrel. He has no confidence. He's a dud plain and simple. We really [automatically edited] up in terms of recruitment we should have thrown the book at Moses and Teddy instead of also making Brooks and Woods a priority. I think we should be letting go of Sue as well he's an average first grader at best. In saying this, with what the young guys have shown I'm really looking forward to next year. We are definitely building into a more competitive team.

We threw the book at Tedesco. I'm glad Moses is gone. We were always going to overpay to retain any of the big 4\. Luckily Brooks cost the least out of all of them.

I'm happy with the way things have turned out. We just have to see how we go next year.

Be interesting to see how long Cleary perseveres with Brooks in 2018 ….. he just hasn't got it at first grade level.

Til we buy someone better. Brooks is still a better number 7 than Littlejohn, and Reynolds and Lolohea are both 5/8ths. For the moment Brooks is our best option and not on a helluva lot of money for a half these days.

Brooks will be on a flight to England if we do sign a real halfback.

In the meantime he will look better once we get a decent pack around him.

Brooks is a utility player who should thicken up and try to craft out a career as a reserve grade half and occasional bench hooker.

If Brooks could be moved on to the UK we'd have more than enough spare $$ to get Cronk for 2 years until Nathan arrives . Pretty sure that Cronk's manager is also the manager of Ivan .

Shows how damaging a poor kicker is to his own side. The forwards tire so fast with Brooks' kicking right into the opposition or bombs taken in the goal line.

I still don't think a better pack will make a difference. His decision making needs to improve if he is going to control the side. Another pack wont change that. It may be that his skills are limited to the point that he has no real choice with his decision making and so does the same things over and over.

The problem for next year is, I don't think Renyolds is much better. Neither of them can execute a long pass like Lolo did yesterday and their 5th tackle kicks are only ordinary… Maybe switch them around and let Brooks play a style of running game more off the cuff and let Renyolds control the forwards with structure..Liddle might be the next great white hope, we need another up and coming Robbie Farah, this kid just might be one to step up on 5th tackle and take the pressure off the other two?

Brooks is waiting for matulino and packer to arrive so he can get his kicking game in order

This argument really doesn't cut it does it.

Brooks has had 3 NRL seasons to get his kicking game in order….do you really think Pacalino will improve it.??.doubt it..Brooks would be better off practicing his kicking game everyday until next season kick off, that may help,or he just doesn't cut it at NRL level...
Unfortunately the club backed overhyped potential rather than proven talent...and apparently it has failed so far... :unamused:

I'll attempt to make an excuse for Brooks but take it easy on me, I'm an old man with a bad heart…. it's all about the bigger picture which is next year..

I think Brooks is under direct instructions from Cleary to step up and take charge on 5th tackle because lolo will be in the 1 next year so why give it to him and fair enough.. this type of pressure is new Brooks and he's not coping with it all..in fact, he was a better kicker in his first season. Remember those little kicks back to Teddy?

.I think things will be different next year with Liddle and Renyolds there..the pressure will be off Brooks on the last..... with the occasional off the cuff 5th tackle play of which I think will suit him better.

Best I can do, don't throw eggs, I'd rather tomatoes.

I don't think Brooks is as bad as what is stated. His try yesterday was great. His running game can be unreal. I honestly think his kicking game isn't that bad. I think his defence is actually pretty good for a half.

I think the issue is that he has a fair few mistakes in his game but so do a lot of halves but that we need someone to step up and win us games desperately.

I didn't think Nathan Cleary who I rate highly was much better than Brooks apart from his goal kicking.
