Not denying he should be upgraded if he’s only on $350k, but Why does this have to play out in the media.....?..why can’t he and the club thrash out an upgrade behind closed doors and only come out in the media when the deal is done....that’s how the Storm or Rorters would handle this situation....but not us Tigers

But that's just the point - we are not the storm or the rorters. They get a rails run in everything they do.

Hooper saying he has asked for a release, saying parts of the club are unprofessional, and Madge is to strict of a disciplinarian, started 6 weeks back

Disciplinarian

My wife's a disciplinarian, when I ask her nicely.

Funny how you perceive people. Wouldn’t have expected this comment from you - but very funny?

@jirskyr true they may not be in the mood but the players evidently are.

Be interesting to see what happens with Matto if the club tell him to honour his contract.

He plays! Wests hold all the cards here. If Matto reckons he is worth more, he should have negotiated it better when he left Roosters. If he thinks other Tigers players are being overpaid, he should have negotiated as well as they did.

I'm sure we can come to some arrangement with Matto, so long as money is available somewhere. There is no argument he was our best forward 2019 and club isn't stupid enough to shoot ourselves in the foot. And I get that Matto signed on before Madge did, so he was originally planning to play under Ivan ze Terrible.

But also, we are under no obligation to do anything and he needs to turn up and play and train, like a professional.

Absolutely. I said the same thing about Maloney when he wanted out of Cronulla. You sign on to a contract, you honour it. If both parties cannot come to an agreement to alter the terms of the contract then it stands. Can't sign on for an opportunity elsewhere and then whinge when the club gave you the opportunity but then you're all of a sudden upset about the remuneration you signed on for.

His manager is testing the waters.

The worst part of the prospect of him leaving is that he’s not on much money, so it’s not like we could go out throw tons of money at a marquee player. 350k is chicken feed these days.

Unfortunately Matterson will come out with the all is rosey statement, I'm not going anywhere, as we heard last year from ivan....one thing I've learnt from 40 years of watching footy....hear one thing, expect the opposite....guess Nov 1 will be an interesting time

Nov 1 next year!!

So he cant negotiate from Nov 1 this year steve?

If he’s signed till end 2021 as I’m led to believe then he can’t be approached until November 1, leading into his last contracted year

That's correct. However we all know clubs are doing dirty deals under the table whenever they want to and player managers do whatever it takes to break the existing contract, And whatdoes the NRL do about this - SFA as usual. The whole game is a joke that is setup for a few powerful clubs. Its becoming a very poor man's version of the EPL.

To be honest there's nothing NRL can do. This is just rumour, if NRL was to actually stop and ask the player, manager and clubs if anything was going on, they'd all say "nope".

You'd need a whistleblower to dob people in, with documented evidence, like a few salary cap infringements of recent years.

What you are saying about the NRL is like saying the ATO should catch all the cash-in-hand transactions and ensure 100% of all Australians pay 100% of their tax obligation. Or like folks who take a sick day at work to have a job interview somewhere else. There's nothing you can do about it just based on noise.

True but after the debacle at parra and Melbourne where there was evidence of player manager involvement what did they do - a slap on the wrist and a suspension that no one could enforce.

The signing of Arrow doesn't have much to do with it imo. Arrow will be a target for 2021, we will have cash by then where a lot of our players are of contract and hopefully by then some might have already moved on. It's just not having enough salary cap for this year, especially with Benji and Rowdy still unsigned, not saying those 2 should be a priority over Matto but to fit those 3 who are demanding money because of their form, you can understand their frustrations but still their should be a sense of understanding from the players.

i have a thought maybe we got too close to 8th so to keep our 9th spot consistency we will trade matto for a plodder

Was waiting for Hooper to have his say. Took him long enough.

Where does this come from because fox journos saying this is not the case? Hooper sensationalises everything way more than most i reckon

Sad reality is we always bow to others demands, with the 350k we will probably sign Turner on a 3 year deal and dress it up as a big coupe for the club. Show some balls management and stop being pushed around.

Is that Hooper or Matterson saying parts of the club are unprofessional...?

If it’s Matterson than I would reciprocate by saying he’s being very unprofessional by dumping on his employee, teammates, sponsors and supporters - and if that’s the case then good riddance, don’t let the door hit you way out! I know the club has work to do to match the facilities, levels of governance and administration that other clubs enjoy, but I’d to think our clubs is making strides to address these and is heading in the right direction. And if it’s too strict for you Ryan then go and play Massey Cup or join the PNG Hunters - I’m sure their Mad Monday’s would be out of this world!!

This story is gaining momentum by the minute, as is the story that we are absolutely no chance of signing Papenhuyzen. I just know this is actually going to happen Happy days ahead! According to reports we are actually considering letting him go to free up some cap space!!!

If we let Matterson go to free up cap space because we can’t shift the deadwood, then I’m done with this club. Players like Matterson rarely come to a club like ours and is it any wonder when they are treated like this and considered expendable.

Blind bloody Freddy could see that he was far and away the best player for us all year, a class above just about everyone else on the field week in, week out. So yes let’s get rid of him instead of building a team around him just so we can free up cap space to sign another couple of Neville’s like Jennings.

I’m so bloody mad right now I just can’t even fathom any of this.

If you’re gonna get a heart attack every time you read one of these stories the media serves up to you you might as well schedule a your surgery in the off season.
This is going to be a long off season for us and a very tricky time for our recruitment department to get all our ducks in order.
So my advice is sit tight and wait for some solid information from people who know what’s going on rather that hanging on every word from media hacks who need to find some rubbish to fill their daily column.

Is funny how we demand a player to honour his contract but want the club to dishonour about 5 contracts to other players.
