NRL. 360'S "creepy Crawley" blasting Wests for offering over the top money for Watson. He said that it put to much pressure on young players.

$600 grand was mentioned.

Yeah Crawley the puffy-cheeked freak didn't quite know what to say when after he said that either Ikin or Kent said "but you are happy with Ben Hunt getting $1.2 million per season?". He spurted out something weak like "yeah but Hunt is a proven 1st grader". I think the Telegraph journo's all have a whip around for ideas on how to criticize WT during their weekly naked sauna sessions.

Paul crawley is a goose. His biased reporting against the tigers is becoming embarrassing for himself. You could pick the pieces out of every team and their players as to what money they are on. Every team has an overpaid player or several of them. Why he keeps bringing up the tigers is a joke. Why doesn't he bring up the bulldogs paying 1 million dollars for a prop. If it was us doing it he would be bagging us out for paying to much. You can't win with that dribbler.

Read in the smh that politis was in Greece and nothing can be made official with anything roosters until he gets back. Was about a week or so back that I read it.

As much as I dislike Crawley and co,( one of the reasons is because of their "loose" telling of stories and passing them off as facts) to his credit he did mention the amount of money Ponga and somebody else were also getting and stated it's too much for young guys as it puts too much pressure on to perform

I just hope he works out great if we are paying big coin. Ivan must see something in him that I haven't…

Him across our try line??

I would agree, if we are talking 600K that is Way too much money unless it is 3 seasons. I realise the market is hot but were buying wrong if we are doing that.

I also don't think we need more youth. There are people we can tap that we would at least know what we are getting. Maloney is on 500K, I would offer him 7-800K in a second to join us.

Everything the media says, take 20% off.

Hed get 450-500k. no more. Ivan knows we need more forwards so he isnt going to pay 600+.

Anyone watching U20's or ISP this year would know that we have no juniors coming through with maybe 3-4 exceptions.

We are in a position where we are paying higher than others would to get players as who wants to come to a club at the bottom of the ladder? This is an investment as we are getting the right type of individuals in, and as they are successful new signings will come for less if they are playing in a team capable of challenging in September.

What irks me is when guys like Tunks say we are paying overs for everyone, when unless I am gravely mistaken, he has never sighted a WT balance sheet or list of contracted players with salaries listed. It is all based on innuendo. The way I look at it I would trade a Packer and Matulino for Woods, a Reynolds for Moses, a Twal for Ava. I am happy with these swaps irrespective of what the money is, but I truly believe we are getting better players for less money. How else have we been using all our salary cap and still coming last?

Media love to inflate player salaries

Problem is we wouldn't get Maloney for 7-800k. He is worth $1m plus. Wouldn't come here for those dollars. I think Watson could be a great buy and play above what we have already seen with a bit of security in one position.

I have a fair bit of faith in Ivan. You can see the depth he is trying to bring to the club and competition for positions. I think we can do really well next year.

Re Tui vs Watson for the fullback spot.
The most any new signing could possibly expect is the proper opportunity to play in his chosen position and the chance to make that position his own. I can't imagine that any coach guarantees any specific position to an untried player or new recruit. I imagine that Cleary would have said something like .. the position is there for you, it's up to you to make it yours.
I agree with the majority who are suggesting that competition for spots is a great thing and something the WTs have not had for ages. Watson would be a great addition to the mix and who knows hat position he might end up playing.
From what I've seen of Tui at the moment, he is not a 5/8 or a reliable goal kicker - so he's got plenty to do to earn his place.
If both Tui and Watson did come good and really stepped up I'd be playing Reynolds at dummyhalf, Tui at fullback and Watson at 5/8\. I think Reynolds possesses great qualities for a great dummy half.

Apparently to this website we signed Watson.

Connor Watson i feel would great. He always wants the ball and seems to make things happen. Might be our next brett hodgson.

We've all assumed Tui will play fullback, but Cleary would have to be some kind of special idiot to have promised him or Watson any guaranteed position. Tui isn't chopped liver, he can easily push his away into the starting side if he works hard enough.

Point on the overpaying that everyone brings up - We have to pay overs for the good talent as we are not in a position to let them walk. The reason the big clubs lose players is because they are getting TPA etc and winning teams. If we listen to the media we will and always will be on the bottom until we PAY OVERS and build a team that players want to come too..
I am soooo over this year and the bashings we are getting every week. Its always about the past but only a few mention we are on the right track with our CEO and Coach..

Not sure how were payimg overs anyway. Reynolds i would of paid 500-600\. but thats it. The others are about right.

How's this for perspective?

Would you rather be paying overs to keep juniors at a moderately week club.
Wests Tigers 2013-2017
Or would you rather be paying overs to players you specifically recruit to make your club stronger?
Wests Tigers 2018–--
Having the presence of a strong culture and competitive club will assist with future signings which in effect will not need to be recruited with the support of an extra salary incentive.

Totally agree… Need to do this to move forward and believe next year is the start of great years ahead..

Wel see. As long as the teams competitive im happy.

Wouldnt it be great to be up at halftime and no we will go on with the job? How many times have we been up by 10-12 points in the last 2-3 years and think to ourselves, this is going to be a close one.
