Contract talk creating drama at Concord

@Geo I think so?? If you guys are thinking this is a serious concern/excuse for our club

I think even chewing this fat is fruitless because Madge is 100% not going anywhere. ASAP

The point is though the original OP is a direct article by Maguire himself not a random thread...I still don't see why it should be shut because you don't agree with other people's opinion on the subject matter..if we started doing that every second thread would be closed down..

Why would Maguire be spreading FAKE news..?

@weststigers not really, I believe it’s counter productive, in particular given the state of affairs within playing ranks ATM.

You wouldn’t blame 3 losses on a row on a coach under any circumstances let alone a duel premiership winner only 13 rounds in.

@avocadoontoast despite your best intentions that won’t be happening haha. Have a good afternoon and agree to disagree obviously - have said my piece and if mods think this article means that Madge agrees with idea of player unrest and a lack of unity then we are all screwed... hopefully those who have made their beds in this thread are prepared to lay in it

Wests Tigers fullback Corey Thompson is poised to make a shock switch to Penrith in a move that will further escalate tensions between the clubs.

The Herald can reveal Thompson is set to take up a two-year deal with the Panthers after rejecting the offer made by the joint-venture outfit. The diminutive fullback-winger is one of the most underrated players in the game, but has quickly become a favourite with Tigers fans for his whole-hearted performances.

In a testament to how highly he is rated, coach Michael Maguire named him at fullback for the win against North Queensland despite initially buying captain Moses Mbye to fill the position.

It was widely expected Thompson would re-sign with the Tigers, but the former Bulldog is set to take up a late offer from the western rivals. Panthers coach Ivan Cleary is a big fan of the 29-year-old from their time working together at Concord. Cleary convinced Thompson to join him at the foot of the mountains after a series of secret talks.

There is no love lost between the clubs after Cleary left the Tigers for Penrith despite still having two years to run on his contract. Thompson’s deal represents the first time since then that the teams have engaged in a battle for the signature of an incumbent player.

In a recent interview with the Herald, Thompson said he was looking for the security of a two-year deal after signing a series of one-season contracts.

“The first two-year deal I had was at the very start at the Bulldogs,” he said.

“I’m really working hard for a two-year deal. I think it’s a bit hard on the mind, just playing one-year deals, when you are always off contract.

“Last year I was lucky, I re-signed in April so it was pretty much a two-year deal. I just want to work hard and show I’m an asset to the team.

Corey wants more than we are prepared to offer. Fair enough if you have someone better to replace him but considering our recent strike rate doesn't instill great confidence.

I can understand Thompson wanting a two year contract and if Penrith are offering two years and more cash he would be mad not to accept.

As for us we have to put a price on his value and walk away if it exceeds that. He has been great for us but he can be replaced, every extra dollar we spend on Thomo has to come off another contract.

The irony of this is, Cleary is the reason we probably can’t offer Thomo what he wants and it is Cleary who is stealing him

Another question the CEO can answer why is this happening ? Please explain .A player that gives his all for the jersey and can win you games ! As I am reminded regularly you do have to fill 30 spots ... the people that run this club a such losers !

Oh well, it is what it is. Not the end of the world.

The coach is full of crap ... all you ever here is culture thrown out there ...culture this ...change the culture .. does not Corey Thompson fit the cultural change the coach SAYS he wants to embody . The guy plays his guts out every game is a total professional and leaves it all on the field ... Corey is not a world beater but for me embodies what I perceive as the culture I want at my club . I sometimes think what our club is all about there is only one cultural change required and that is from board level down !

Damn we thought we had him...

You have to look after yourself...no hard feelings here should he go but fair dinkum.. secret talk's blah blah unlike the Australian to talk up drama and sensationalised a situation

Appears everyone wants to leave bar Benji and Robbie

Onwards and upwards for 2020 I say

I like Corey and don't blame him for taking a better offer but will he play 1st grade at penwiff???

A young Edwards at fullback starting to find form

Mansour on one wing and a great young player on the other

Unless there is injuries can't see him playing much NRL

Will probably just cover injuries as he is not an ideal bench player

Couldn't care less if he goes or stays - his deficiencies have been shown up recently - what i don't like is " the series of secret talks " - another one who hasn't got the guts to be open and upfront about where he stands. Wouldn't expect anymore from Cleary as he is just a total scumbag but i was hoping the club and its players had moved away from this type of backdoor behaviour. Guess my hopes were in vain.

Why go after Panthers players when the Bulldogs plan is going so well 🤯
