Looks like neighbor might have it. Just got back from Brisbane and had very close contact with someone who tested now positive and is feeling sick. Apparently he will know in a couple days?

Hope he told you that by phone...

Regardless of where it may have originated, as with the Spanish flu, where the first cases were discovered gets naming rights which can last 100 years or more.

Spanish flu did not originate in Spain and from my recollection, most evidence points to it beginnings being a year or more earlier in the good old USA and brought to Europe with their army.

I never stated the Spanish flu originated in Spain. I never said the COVID-19 originated in China. As I eluded to, both have naming rights because that’s where the first cases were discovered.

Btw, I don’t think anyone can say with any certainty the origin of the Spanish flu.

A suggestion I heard @twentyforty was the Spanish flu started due to the amount of bodies of dead and decaying soldiers not being handled quickly enough or effectively enough.
Therefore its suggested the Spanish Flu started somewhere? in Europe .

Yes @MAGPIES1963 I once had a keen interest in WW1 and particularly the western front battles. I have heard that. There was also talk about the Spanish being not too fond of the naming, simply because they had declared having patients with the flu virus . I think there were soldiers dying of the virus before that?

Just a little different perspective about the Chinese panic buying.

I had an interesting conversation with a Chinese student today. English definitely was not his first language. He was telling me that in China when a disaster happens the Chinese go out and stock up. They do this because they don’t know when they are going to get food again. He was very concerned and was going to do the same. I let him know that Australia is not going to run out of food. That we are a Primary Producer who exports food which we now cannot do. We have 3 times as much food as we need and we are definitely not going to run out.

I swear I almost saw a lightbulb moment on his face.

My experience has been that the supermarket stupidity seems to have no racial boundaries and it is definitely not confined to the Chinese.

Yeah I know. I was only giving one Chinese student’s perspective.

Ive wondered about the baby formula parallel. With baby formula, Chinese were either sending it home or selling it.

Does anyone think there is a market for bog roll?

Ruby Princess disembarkation seems relaxed. I question how older citizens went on the cruise despite the threat from the virus? Seems to be poor judgement in view of the danger. Now we have at least two of these occupying ICU beds in Sydney, one gravely ill, and another two headed back to Tasmania ill.

With Scotty threatening to close down areas of Sydney it is only fair that he set an example and blockade the Shire --except Engadine Maccas of course.

Yep, I'm doing a job at Lidcombe at the moment and there's all walks of life there, and they're all equally poorly behaved.

As for China's leadership, it would be fair to say basically every single person educated here understands their role in continuing suppression and authoritarian rule. Furthermore, most everyone now living in our nation would also be aware of their role in relation to this virus outbreak, as it has been reported across the media platforms.

Agreed, though whilst the schools remain open it is hard to argue.

Personally I dont think the schools issue is as cut and dried as it may appear. Schools are closed and the kids are roaming the streets or at home with Mum or Dad not being able to work. May not provide much of an infection benefit for a VERY big economic cost.

A blanket closure, maybe not at the moment, but it seems that many of the children show little or no sign of illness and the latest figures, particularly in Sydney are very worrying as clusters of local transmission become more obvious.

For instance, I live in a virus clear area up at the top of the Central Coast, but mental health issues with my wife have our son and I often staying at my parents at Ryde when he cannot handle home. There is no way that I would be sending him to school when down there at the moment, believing that all schools in such areas should be closed immediately and not reopen until after the Easter school holidays at best.

Kids aren’t going to school anyway atm. I was told today that all staff at my job could recieve a text saying not to come in the following day at any moment. All libraries in our LGA have been closed, swimming lessons are suspended, and we aren’t taking booking for any parks or facilities.

I’m sorry mate. I know there’s a lot of misinformation flying around, but the CCP was playing it down up until the WHO got a hold of the virus for testing.

I'm not doubting this but I just showed a factual flaw in your reasoning. You and others want this to be a China (mainly the CCP) problem. That is simplistic and I'm going to state stupid.

I'm not stating China is perfect. I'm trying to have a realistic and rational discussion about the virus. Sorry the lack of knowledge on this thread has been pretty extreme. I had one poster ask me how many viruses have come out over the last 70 years as if this never occurs. It happens all the time. It's been happening throughout history. Can you remember HIV ? What about mad cows disease ? Have you heard of Ebola ?

I saw Matty Johns shaking hands the other day. We are playing rugby league this weekend. Gyms and restaurants are still open.

I'm honestly okay with all of those steps. I'm just stating that let's accept that this issue is a little bigger than just the CCP. If you think this has all been caused by the CCP fine. It's impossible to discuss issues with people that are not logical or rational.

Fact is, if 'the party' had listened to the doctors of Wuhan instead of arresting and threatening them, this could have been nipped in the bud.

In none of the outbreaks you mention were frontline doctors persecuted in this way.
