Yes, we will have to learn with it but until vaccination rates are high we shouldn't relax restrictions. We shouldn't also be waving the stick like the NSW government and Scomo are doing - vaccination or suffer is their current policy. Not everyone can get vaccinated atm where I live because there simply aren't enough supplies. We don't have a single case because most people are doing the right thing. All they are doing with the stick is turning people off.

There are some issues here:-

1. The disinformation on the AZ vaccine. It's been a monumental mistake. We have vaccines available we just don't have the Pfizer vaccine available. The AZ vaccine is a really good vaccine.
2. I don't think there is any choice but to wave the stick at people. We can't escape the fact that unvaccinated people cost society significantly more than vaccinated people. How do you get around this ? I'm not even a fan but I cannot rationally see any other option.
3. Vaccine hesitancy is really high until you get outbreaks but by then it's too late for some people. So your comments there could lead to increased deaths and sickness that doesn't have to happen.

I agree and disagree with some of your points.
1. AZ does in fact have issues - that's why there are six permissible reasons to ask for Pfizr. Other than those reasons, it is fine for people (and yes the misinformation has been detrimental).
2. Most people don't need the stick - they want to do the right thing. The misinformation, uncertainy, and mixed messages, did not help. Scomo and other politicans should leave the message to the medical experts rather than playing politics. There are anti-vaxxers but if they choose not to get vaccinated that's there choice. I do think unvaccinated people should be excluded from some things from a safety point of view not as a punishment.
3. My comments will not lead to increased deaths and sickness - my comment smerely point out I think it is the wrong tactic. Give yourself an uppercut from me 🙂

Good post. We aren't really far off.

The AZ is a really good vaccine. I accept that is has some issues but as you state this is all part of the standard health advice.
I think the stick has to be given out. Some people are strongly pro this stance. I'm actually not and still thinking through it. I just can't get around the fact that the unvaccinated are going to cost society so much more. I was initially hopeful that this issue could be avoided but I don't think it will. In France my understanding is that they are having weekly freedom rallies because of this issue. I think our freedom fighters got caught up in this movement but I doubt they even understood the issue.
The point I'm trying to make with the comment about not getting vaccinated is that all of a sudden an outbreak occurs and then this virus rips through communities. If everyone just got vaccinated when vaccines were available we would have had a much lower impact on the health care system including deaths and illness.

You've made this point over and over - we get it!

Just chatting mate. No need to be so angry.

I'm far from angry Earl but you've made your point 100 times over in this thread - if people don't get it now, they never will.

Fair point. Sometimes there are new posters on here and the conversation appears to start over again.

There still seems to be a lot of misinformation going around online about how lethal Covid real is and safe the vaccine is. Seems like people are more inclined to believe this if they don't like what the government is doing.

seriously guys the amount if ventilators or lack of will affect us soon
At Westmeath people are not in ICU wards they are in normal wards while in ICU
Westmead is almost on its knees
Worry about the children's hospital next

There is 73 cases on ventilators, 116 in ICU. State has 2500 ICU capacity.

I have VERY elective surgery booked in for next week and they have not cancelled it.

None of this seems to correspond to your doomsday scenario?

well my wife who works in ICU at Westmeath must be incorrect then mate, she doesn't know as much as you about it then

Mate, I didnt question you or your wife, I just quoted the NSW health stats, current today.

The ? at the end of my sentence implies pretty strongly a question. I am asking. Im saying that the NSW health stats plus my very non essential elective surgery that was only booked in 4 weeks ago has not been impacted doesnt seem to gel with that report. Would you agree with that?

if it is elective surgery then probably all good.
The fact is some of the wards at westmead are ICU wards now and they are looking at moving things to a covid hospital
Good luck with the surgery

Same is happening at Nepean, they are looking at moving patients across to the private hospital to create more space in the public.

If everyone is vaccinated then surely hospital numbers will go down. Wouldn’t any rise in hospital numbers be either unvaccinated people, or a vaccine resistant strain which would mean the vaccine percentage whatever it is is irrelevant?
I honestly think that they have no idea, are basically verbalising untested theories, which is why they are backflipping every 2 weeks.

Have had a bit of a look at the Doherty report along with some commentary on it this week potentially showing more holes in it than Swiss cheese. Including that it ends at the 180 day point, with the consequences of the 80% opening lesser though still rising

I have had a somewhat troubled week, though am concerned enough that I will look further into their premise and relevant assumptions when I get the chance.

Ik someone who is a employer... they run a bussiness and 90% of the bussines is either getting vax or is fully vaxed...

There is 1 bloke they were telling me who is full anti vax......

Basically what they ended saying to me what they t gonna do...is not fire the employee but give the bloke a time limit...and then if he doesnr get vaxxed within that time, they get stood down until it becomes mandatory or visa versa

I personally see this as being very fair...cause as a employer they have the rights to oversee the health and saftey of the whole bussiness

If the business is pretty own they can make there own rules e.g. only vaccinated allowed. Some people can't comprehend it.

I've just finished having a heart to heart with my eldest son about his hesitancy to receive a vaccination. His girlfriend is against vaccination and feeds him her views. I said to him he should respect his girlfriend's views and in return she should respect his. He will be vaccinated tomorrow and I will go with him just to give him moral support.

His cousin is a nurse manager (matron) at a hospital and she had a good chat to him last night about it.

Lovely.

Life is a risk my brothers.
If we do nothing, we are nothing !!

Hope im not riddled with machine gun fire at checkpoint charlie

"Papers please!"

Those who don't respect health orders and refuse to be vaccinated should visit Covid clinics around the State. These are for those who have "recovered" from Covid but are still suffering the impacts of this very serious illness. So-called long-Covid is a debilitating illness and I hate to think of the impact on our younger residents.

1. Deaths
2. Hospitalizations (Including ICU/ventilator usage)
3. Instances of long COVID

Shout out to @Jedi_Tiger for providing info on Westmead hospital. We are in a bad situation right now. I hope our health care staff get through this. They are the ones who are going to bear the brunt of this situation in the community.

As things stand at the moment, I agree with you.

If that unvaccinated person contracted Covid 19, all their fellow workers would have to quarantine, the business would shut, be named as a tier 1 site (well in Vic anyway) and have to undergo a deep clean - I'm not sure at whose expense.

Why should any small business owner be obliged to accept that risk when the risk can be reduced by full vaccination of staff. Particularly if it's a business that doesn't have public walk-ins.

In the future though, if we hit high levels of full vaccination, none of that might happen. The infected worker might just take sick leave and everything else continues as normal. In which case, demanding that people be vaccinated would become largely unnecessary from a business continuation perspective.

It would be nice to get to that point.

Wow.

My son is only 20. His cousin, a nurse unit manager, reassured him this is untrue. She also suggested he split with his current and she would introduce him to a very nice colleague of hers who is interested him. I encouraged him to take up the offer.

The infertility issue was addressed on the NSW presser this morning.

Yes, there are a lot of untruths being disseminated. I heard in one NSW town the shop owner has a sign that says vaccinated people are not allow as they shed the Covid virus.
