We need to start winning games. The media will leave us alone if we can make finals for once.

Did Bulldogs get this sort of media when they running last or second last all year? The answer is no. I would love to make the finals in 2022 but not just to appease the low media types.

Yes they did. Don't you remember all the board stuff with Lynn Anderson? I wasn't paying much attention to it, because I didn't care, but it was certainly there.

to be fair the bulldogs have had a good chunk of negative publicity slung at them over the years....even to the point of reporters allegedly hiring a cherry picker to snoop on their mad monday celebrations at the pub in the rocks

they always get out of it and come out the other side, Coffs harbour mad Monday and routing of salary cap in early 2000's if that was us could you imagine.... we get negative comments from the coach kicking a chair and players walking on eggshells

"Independent Always" aka SMH is ok but
A. Nobody reads it, it is not a working man's / league paper
B. They do not have a TV show on fox league

Clubs probably pay for favourable articles i know racing used to do that in DT they would pay for positive space.

Fact is we have Fox sports and DT journo's on fox and it is not going away, we need to throw a bone occasionally not to Buzz but maybe Kent or Hooper

Fact check ...... SMH And Telegraph Are always close on readership Numbers.

And we definitely should not crawl to ANY media outlet particularly the Murdoch hookers.
There are very good reason why the Tigers treat DT jurnos with distain and all you need to do is check their record of rubbish and misinformation they put in print about the club and what damage that has done to our brand.
No .... don’t give them nothing thanks.

People that actually have half a brain will read the SMH, the DT is first choice for those who have had a lobotomy though.

I have asked my family that if I ever read either the DT or the SMH for reliable news on any subject, I should be killed.

I expect them to honor my wishes.

the team suprisingly away from the spotlight this year is Manly- most had them in the top 4 this year.

Moreso Seibold than the Broncos. Notice how the negative press surrounding them all died down once he was pushed out.

Fair call mate sorry
I do read both papers actually SMH and DT as someone put it they had the readership stats in link so I will not go over them again except Murdoch wins on readership. All came about the nrl360 show when Kent Buzz etc was talking about what clubs they dont write negative stories about. Was talking about the bad press from NRL 360 and DT and we can't just drop our scoops to SMH we need to try and have some relationship with DT

I disagree with you there also, but only because I think think they'll stick the boot in no matter what level of suckery we undertake. We can never match motors with the likes of the Roosters we in comes to "business relationships".

Not really, don’t read newspapers at all and rarely watch the ABC unless there is something particular on there that I want to watch.

I've wondered for years and never really been given a clear answer to this. Do the club have anyone in-house working on PR or do we engage an external PR company. If we don't then its an absolute shambles as negative press can affect membership numbers and corporate sponsorship.

We need to get ahead of the negative stories and control the narrative.

One great example of this was earlier this year when the current NSW coach was quoted in the media as saying the Tigers should be prime for relocation as we have no fan base. As well as being factually incorrect it was a highly inappropriate thing to say about a member club and the club really should have challenged him on it. Instead we got silence and the idea was allowed to grow and fester. As a member I found this grossly insulting.

If we had a decent PR team you'd hope they would have been all over this.

Spot on. We have a great brand and a great story yet we don’t own that story. It’s ridiculously badly managed

It’s like no one at the club even cares that we are continually being rubbished by the media and high profile league commentators on an ever increasing scale. They never respond or refute anything these cretans say about the club, even if it’s unfounded - they just lay down and take it. It’s pretty disconcerting really. As a supporter I’d like to see someone from the club fight back occasionally and put media in its place.

Hearing us getting publicly bagged all the time makes me sick, it’s damaging our brand and preventing any decent players from wanting to sign with us. Fittler, in particular, seems to be out to destroy us, first it was the relocation thing, now it’s our ‘hopeless’ retention of players and his influence on the minds of the NSW players can’t be downplayed. I can’t believe we actually have high profile lawyers as our major sponsor and they aren’t doing a thing to prevent these stories damaging the club’s brand and stifling our recruitment.

Exactly - non engagement is accepting defeat - and that’s what the club does. At least have a stance and defend it.

Our media team seems to just take it and roll over. At least engage the nrl.com journalists wholeheartedly, or abc or sbs - who really cares, just do something.

If you start chasing down everything in the media there'll be no end in it. The media are intentionally trolling the clubs and they want clubs to respond every time.

Sometimes Tigers do, usually they don't. It's intentional. Most of the stuff they just let go because it's better to let the comments bounce off, because they usually do, than kick up a stink and help them stick.

Exactly - totally unprofessional to get into a public spat with the media.

That’s just it, they haven’t bounced off! Everything negative thing written or spoken about our club has stuck and is repeated ad nauseum until it does. The club needs to call out the falsities in their stories and shut it down once and for all. I don’t know about you but I’m sick of hearing it.

When the stories are completely untrue and potentially damaging revenues then the club have a duty to stakeholders, members and sponsors, to challenge them.

There are many ways this can be done without the club directly confronting journalists. We could use prominent ex players in the media to call out the stories without the club being directly involved. Other clubs do this well, we don't.

An example from Crawley this week was his suggestion that Nathan Cleary should be left out of the origin side, the same day Mark Geyer is all over social media calling it out as BS. This is how PR management works and we just don't do nearly enough of it.

No everything hasn't stuck, you only think this because you are a Tigers supporter and you are on here all the time consuming all the Tigers news.

Most fans don't pay particular attention to Tigers news, not any more than any other club, and most of the comments nobody pays much attention to. For example the DT "300K" salary cap comment, nobody really cared in the wider NRL beyond Tigers fans.
