The NRL won’t be around in 15 years as a major competition. It won’t last it’s the most imbalanced competition that has a salary cap I can think of in terms of talent distribution.

I agreed with you until this part. EPL and NFL have a salary cap technically and they aren't balanced at all.

AFL isnt balanced, you have the same super clubs around the top.

If St George winning 11 straight didn't kill rugby league, a few years of Roosters will not.

It’s not 2 years of Roosters it’s 16/22 years Storm and Roosters in the GF. The game has gone soft and it’s now an athletic contest. It won’t change for another decade. Local Shire teams can’t field two teams per grade in the juniors used to be 4-6. Writing is on the wall for mine .

@Russell Yes you are correct. 1966 was a watershed moment because the Roosters never won a match all season. In 2009 they won seven matches but still won the wooden spoon. By the way in 2009 Wests Tigers finished 9th - some things never change.

I think the year after went a bit differently for us.....

1966 they failed to win a game, Politis was instrumental in signing Jack Gibson as coach in 67 where Gibson achieved a 59% win rate during 67 and 68 and made the finals both seasons, 1967 was also the year they became the Roosters, they did not have a mascot/emblem prior to that.

@PrattenParkMagpie Gibson was a great coach. He even got Newtown into the final in the early seventies.

Vlandys will be the best thing that’s hit the NRL

Just read in The Australian that V'Landys is from the same Greek island as Politis and that Politis supported him for the job - although they don't know each other well.

Greenburg may have something to watch out for, but I'm not sure the Chooks will.

I like everyone who comes from where I come from.

Are you from Kythera as well Jirskyr

My Mrs's family are all from Kythera .....beautiful place .....part own a place there now (about a 3.6% share lol )

AFL have had four different clubs win the GF in the past 5 years. They have clubs who are strong for four years than dip, like Hawthorn and Brisbane. In the NRL we have the Chooks and Storm every year

roosters have been strong, but as well as having more premierships than us, they also have won the wooden spoon more times than us in our merged history.....

They have never won the wooden spoon under Politis' watch. If i am correct the Roosters most recent wooden was around 1967 when I think they failed to win a match all season.

2009 the last time and 1966 the time before that.

His company has sponsored Easts ( Roosters ) since 1976.

Politis has been chairman since 1993.

1st club to actually have sponsorship listed on their jerseys from memory as well

16 Roosters or Storm, but only 6 premierships betweem them in that period. Manly, Broncos and Cowboys also made GF 3 times each in same period.

There are certainly some club dynasties, but I still believe it's a pretty even comp over long spans. Of course certain rosters might have few strong years and Roosters recently ascendant.

In the same period AFL have had two different clubs win 3 consecutive premierships.

Storm are a unique proposition of highly prominent juniors becoming elite at the same time under arguably the greatest ever league coach.

Not sure of the point you are making. Perhaps you are being ironic ?

I was responding to the belief of many on here that V'landys will go after the Roosters. That belief is predicated on a couple of big assumptions:

1. That whatever the Chooks are doing is illegal or against the rules, which is not obvious to me; and

2. That V'landys will go after an NRL power broker who supported him for the top job. Again, it's not obvious to me.

G'day @fibrodreaming: if V'Landys is the person a lot on here feel he is, he will clean up any and all rubbish that's going on out there, Chooks included.

I know nothing re the horse racing industry and I know nothing about V'Landys except what I have heard and seen on TV, but he certainly seems a great choice.

So it's a 😛oint_up: as well as a :fa-smile-o: from me.

They've always been smart.

If things don’t change rugby league looks like it will slowly slip down the sports popularity list in Sydney. Its a shame that the commission don’t even acknowledge a problem that everyone can see.

Congratulations to the journalist for writing it. I hope it sparks some action, but I won’t be holding my breath

Most TPAs In the game are not truly at arms length per se, so by the letter of the law are not true TPAs.
The Roosters abuse the liberal-ness of this and get away with it, while other clubs get fined for breaches.
The Roosters brazenness is not even subtle anymore. The Roosters recruit the best players every year. Their roster is already far far superior. An obvious red flag for anyone at NRL.

The running joke of the sombrero is not even funny anymore. The joke is on us.

Obviously this abuse has ruined the competitiveness of NRL - exactly what the salary cap was meant to ensure - and supporters are leaving in droves.
It’s not good for the game.

There is no way that the NRL aren’t acutely aware of this and the Roosters TPA abuses.

Hence, there is only one possible explanation that could explain why; if the power brokers running the game know about it and do nothing, even to the detriment of the game itself.
Money.
They must be in on it.

Maybe one day we’ll hear the truth and maybe one day it will all be cleaned up, but until then I just wish we got smarter and it was us exploiting the system and buying the players (and everyone else).

@bigsiro Absolutely right.

I get sick of people (mainly Politis and journos) saying Roosters are not cheating. We have rules in place to make the comp more even, more fair, and Roosters have found a great way around that. It doesn't matter if it's not technically cheating, the rules need to change to haul them back and take away their advantage as it is detrimental to every other team and hence the whole league itself.

@bigsiro

And what is worse whilst in recent years , eels , manly , sharks, tigers have been caught for “Cheating the cap” during those years they breached they still would have spent less on their squads then the likes of roosters and broncos.

The current rules only allow for a few clubs to “take advantage” of the grey areas.

As for TPA they are all club sourced , so everyone one in the game is a root , which was evidenced by the Moylan and Maloney swap
