Jimmy Smith on SEN said this afternoon that JAC will tell WT at todays meeting that:
1. You can't legally sign a contract before Nov 1
2. He's staying in Melbourne for 12 months
So the HOA is null and void

But, he said WT have signed Daine Laurie for 2022. Hopefully panthers will release him for 2021. He said he us a 'tier 1 sprinter'.

Also said likely to know what Mansour goes today. Which is likely WT.

Hope I've relayed what he said properly.

That’s what’s confused me about this HOA. How could the NRL allow JAC to sign a binding document with us if he hasn’t even been released from Melbourne or it’s not November 1st. I don’t see how it has any power to stop him from doing whatever he wants.

It’s not binding..... doesn’t come into play unless he’s released, and even then it’s probably not binding.

Then what’s the big drama about it? Sounds like he could just decide not to join even if he’s released and nothing could stop that. I don’t see how it would hold any bearing as to what club he decides to join.

That right. At best it sets us up to look like we are a shambles again.

Then why do people think he has to try and get out of it or something? Even people on fox sports haha doesn’t make sense

Also for the love of god don’t sign Mansour. I love the bloke always been one of my favourites but we REALLY don’t need him. Don’t see why we would sign another winger anyway

Kepaoa is 10x better and 10 years younger. Why Mansour?

A part of an law article:

“Many people believe that heads of agreements are non-binding documents and make the mistake of signing them without getting legal advice. However, heads of agreements can be a contract which is enforceable by the parties to it”

Would the nrl really allow a contracted player to sign something enforceable before November 1? That’s not allowed

The horse has bolted or should I say the Fox. I guess it’s back to the Storm for a year, or if our agreement is not binding or we rip it up, he can go to Souths or the Dogs..if the Storm agree to a release.

Sad really we needed to finally get a big signing and we need a character. Of course not the end of the earth but disappointing. I would now be throwing the sink at Angus C, but I can’t see the Chooks letting him go with Cordner odds on to retire.
Really hope we are not going down the Mansour road

End of the day JAC will look like a tool if he stays in Melbourne another year. All this talk of wanting to come back to Sydney for his family so he could be with them and then suddenly back flipping.... not a good look

Makes him look a lot stupider than us in my opinion. If he wants to stay what can we do?

It’s not allowed to sign a playing contract but this HOA is more of, if you do get a release from your current playing contract then you agree to play with Wests Tigers.

Agree but I highly doubt we would agree to set this up and sign if not allow to. He is a smart operator our Chair

It seems to me like it’s just him giving his word that he’ll come. If he changes his mind we can’t do anytbing, he’s the one in the wrong.

All we can do is wait guys.can jump to any conclusion we want.although frustrating, let’s wait and see what happens.

A HoA IS binding, it is either a contract/agreement or makes reference to a contract/agreement.
However it is also beholden to a third party (Storm), therefore if there is a HoA in place JAC will not be able to renege on the agreement unless there is a fair stipulation or both parties agree to rip it up.

I personally am sceptical that there is a HoA, but if I'm wrong I think that it's a good initiative by the club and I hope they utilise Bryden's lawyers more often if its beneficial to list management.

He was happy to sign the deal in advance probably with storms permission and based on a release

What happens now as well If he gets out of it?

He goes back to Melb and stuff his family which this has been all about or he craps on us and signs with rabbits for 2021?

If he goes to Melbourne he is a low down liar saying he needs to stay with his family in Sydney to help them them as a father and son (both of which he is) would be expected to do in the dire straits which he explained in his reaon to leave Melbourne. Wake up Tigers!

Here is the thing

IfWe don't get Josh
We promote kei

Easy

Exactly!

Hopefully this Jimmy Smith story is false but If he's trying to get out of a binding HOA, we could fight it but if he doesn't want to come here, what's the point.

Get some youth in there for next year, have a crack and build for 2022. We have to remember that many couldn't play this season so they haven't had a chance which they hopefully will in 2021. The club invested in youth over the past few years so let's see what they've got as they develop over the next 12 months.

By September next year we will be in a strong position cash wise at least to bring some stars across = stars with developed younger players = strong results/finals.

2021 was always going to be a tough year but I would expect 2022 to be much better.

There are legal precedents on them being non binding. But who wants a legal argument to get a player to sign. It was a stupid, desperate move. If he says no what do we do? Take him to court to get him to sign?

Even if it’s binding, it won’t be enforced. Imagine sporting to sign players with that going on in the background. Amateur hour, it’s already pretty bad getting a joke on SSO coverage
