**The media is going full alarmist on the Tigers this week and half of you are going with them. Now it's alarm bells because Joey was critical of Brooks' game and Chammas has got wind we're working on the Hastings deal that we've been working on for some 6 months.**

It's not alarm bells losing to two competition heavyweights first two weeks. It's not good reading but can absolutely be turned around. This media stuff is becoming a beat-up because, again, it helps to sell papers and drive these click-bait narratives around popular clubs.

Where is the hullabaloo around Manly or Cowboys or Broncos or Dragons?

Someone mentioned Chammas has close connections to the club, so why is this latest article out? If this is coming from the club then why now when the team are down and out and already feeling the pressure?
Or have I simply misinterpreted, and not all Tigers related stuff he prints is directly from us.

I know there's been some worrying signs in our first two performances but it also makes the club look noncomitted to their plans. Not saying there's anything wrong with having a Plan B but because it's only 3 weeks in it looks like a knee jerk reaction or another possible bandaid solution.
Or can someone confirm if it hasn't been decided on a whim as suggested by other reports.

I'd wager it's probably coming from the manager. I have been previously informed that most of what you read in the paper is driven by player managers, who want to manoeuvre on behalf of their client. For example the Rabbitohs stuff around Reynolds - they aren't driving that, Reynolds' manager is.

Thinking logically, the club doesn't really have anything to gain by publishing a desire to bring Hastings over - it only serves to undermine confidence in Brooks. So then Tigers have to make some comment along the lines of "we have completed faith in Brooks, this is more an attacking lock acquisition".

As to only being 3 weeks in, Tigers have been in discussions with Hastings for months, so there's nothing recent about it. I was informed directly from the club that we were interested but Wigan were not entertaining a release and Hastings was about to board a flight home, so there was nothing more Tigers could do for now. Something may have happened since; the player himself may have made in-person requests with Wigan to return home; Wigan may have reached out to Tigers to make a deal happen.

Spot on - the media is 100% taking info from managers then twisting it with their own opinions and agendas. It’s never a positive outcome unless it’s Alexander talking about Penrith, Ikin about Brisbane etc.

They are t journalists, they are opinion writers and a mouth piece for managers

Then see how much the transfer fee is or what they want in return.

Personally hope Wigan keep him for the next ten years.

Spot on Russell. I don't want Hastings anywhere near the WTs.

You two happy to see us struggle every week because we have a dud halfback?
Oh, he’s a local junior... that changes everything.?

If you believe Hastings is the answer, the wrong question is being asked to the wrong inidivdual.

I rewatched his “highlights” in the super league

Seriously he’s as slow as a wet week and some of the defense he was up against reminded me of us on the weekend

Mitch Moses 2.0 with even less talent

Maybe what you should be looking at is why does Maguire want him in the team?

He is not an idiot.

Could it be the things that dont show up on highlight reels like game management and a good kicking game.

Things we desperately need and dont have in the building.

47 games in the NRL and showed diddly squat

One was at a club that had the incumbent NSW halves to learn his trade off & coming off a grand final win

He’s been killing it in the super league, like most NRL outcasts do and people here think he’s the messiah

I suggested in another thread we should look at young talent stuck at powerhouse clubs - who knows, we might get another Daine Laurie / Harry Grant hungry for a crack

And this could be a diversion away from the real issue. What happened to the offloads, what happened to the WTs' renowned attacking game? Why have our strengths disappeared' IC had WTs playing a great brand of RL.

Not sure..Hastings has been discussed for 6 months with a view to 2022..they hadn't approached Wigan for an early release at that stage at all

Chammas article is Sam Ayoub 101..timing is everything

Not sure apart from cash is in it for Wigan a pretty pivotal position they would need to find a replacement where halves are just as scarce in the ESL as they are in the NRL..

Does anyone remember how he went in defence at manly. Wasn’t he playing hooker so would of been defending in the middle.
There’s no point putting him at lock if he is a turnstile

Ive already mentioned we should sign someone like a Ronald Volkman, i agree with the youth policy.

Watching Hastings highlights with an open mind i can see he is a tier or two above Brooks in

pass selection-
pass timing-
reading the play -
ball distribution/ bringing those around him on to the ball -
natural footballer - eyes up and in the moment

Ill take that over a guy who has done diddly squat in 150 games.

It’s easier to execute pass selection/timing etc when the line speed of the opposition is of super league standard. That’s the outlier here

Watch the staggered lines and weak first up contact in the videos. Some of them are just basic short passing to blokes at pace and crashing over the line

Now I’m not supporting Brooks, patience is wearing me thin but he has shown those facets of play at NRL level. not this year or last year, but years prior.

I can see the level of defence as well. Its not NRL

What im looking at however is his pass selection, the timing of the pass to position the runner, the reading of the defence to make the best decision in that situation.

These are things that translate.

He would really bring Daine Lauirie into a game.Really nice touches and plays through the line with good hands and well timed passes.

I disagree a bit. Tamou is on 350k per year. I have no idea about Joe O but I doubt it's too much as he wouldn't have been upgraded on his Broncos contract.

They both though don't look like being anywhere near our top middle forwards this year. I don't think they are anywhere near Packer level in contract dollars, length of contract and output. I though Joe O was pretty good both games.
