Jahream Bula #269

But it’s not luck . Nor is it luck to have a grubber kick pop up into the hands at the right time 90% of the time . You practice this stuff . I wasn’t even a half , and we used to practice is it when I was coming up (the grubber kick popping up when you need it .
You bounce that ball enough times off the post you can predict where it’s going . Like chucking a tennis ball at a wall in different ways , after a while you know if you chuck it on this angle the ball is pooping out on that angle. It’s a rectangular shape . Like what was said if it was round , then it would bounce off in different directions . Much harder to predict . Like aiming for the mortar in a brick wall with a tennis ball, or a crack .
@HUNT 101 What’s funny ? That’s how you practice ? Have you never done that as a kid bounced balls off the wall and practice your catching ?
You do realise this is what people do right . They practice and practice and practice the most mundane monotonous shit . This is what people are referencing when they say fundamentals… Well this is what heaps of kid did coming up in my age group . We had guys come out of the area in soccer like Harry kewell, Bosnich , Christian Vieri , heaps of cricketers , heaps played Sydney grade , footballers … too many to chose from … i dunno . Dudes used to sit at lunch whilst talking spends hours spinning the ball off their finger tips , catching with one hand , one hand grab bounces off the wall etc . Is that really that unusual to you ?

Haha Buddy, I don't need you to try and educate me ,I totally understand what you are trying to say. But I stand by my earlier post, we got lucky on a few of occasions yesterday.
Good chat though

For sure we had plenty of luck and that’s not usually the case but there is no doubt we were the better side by a country mile and I think Luai’s kick went where he planned it to go. Luck in football is a funny thing it tends to go to the team that is dominating

Yeah Absolutely

I would not be wanting to swap Bula for Drinkwater when you factor in age and projected improvement over the next couple of years.
Purdue is the only fullback who could replace and be an improvement on Bula.
Unless we could make that happen, Bula is a must keep.

Look, Bula is Bula.

There are many names that would be greater with a greater pay packet.
Walsh, Edwards, Fa'alogo, Teddy...

Turbo and Ponga are better, if fit.

I really don't see the fuss over keeping Bula... Every players agent will have a young speedy kid wanting to be a NRL fullback to get Fullback money. Will the be to Bula's standard... Maybe??

Centers are hard positions to fill, Fullback isn't.

Some lucky tries in the 44 points scored, I reckon AD should have been stopped seriously, the intercept, lucky , even the ball hitting the post . Thats 18 points any other week might not bounce our way .Also the momentum with the ref blowing back to back to back six again calls really helped gas the cowboys. Take 3 tries away we still win . More wins then losses this year,we definitely looked more organised and hungry. Perfect way to start in front of a massive crowd 🐯☝️💥

We usually have a lot of tries scored against us in that way

Maybe it's a sign we are going to be one of the better teams this year

Drinkwater coming back here ,im not a fan of , but a few so called experts over the weekend suggested if you can hide him from defending , he's a good get
If Bula doesn;t want to be here , ship him out asap
He never was worth the coin we put in front of him
Those saying he needs to be coached better, well the player payed Fabri over the off season to gain a second in speed .
Matty Johns used to hold free coaching clinics ,club is sparce on $s ,whats wrong with the kid investing in his future paypacket/tax deduction hiring his own FB tutor

He has Hodgo, one of the best fullbacks in his era….at his disposal….

I want so much more from Bula. 33 year old Wighton had him totally covered and got out jumped by Jye Gray at the end against the bunnies.

I'm starting to think he's not such a good fit for our style of play. He'd go great in a really structured team. We need an auxiliary half..

Bula actually doesn't play a lot of 'Footy'. He's got an insane amount of natural ability, and there are these short moments you get to see that in a match, in isolation. But I really can't remember the last game he was a real handful that was causing a bunch of problems for a team. No dummies, no running at the line, can vanish at times in an opponents 20.

Im really starting to change my mind. You need to make headlines on the pitch at 900k.

Man wighton is a gun defensive centre . It’s so disrespectful to him and his career . He jammed often and early , often offside which the ref was reluctant to call for whatever reason , but hey if he was wearing orange black and white I would have said too bad so sad . He was great .
You could tell what the plan was hit right upright with unders , compress their defense on the left , and then shift .
many of the sets of 6 on the tryline went to that 4th play shift left , but he kicked arse and really shut it down . He caught Masi 3-4 times 1v1. I think there’s not many centres in the game who don’t get dusted at least once .
There was one shift in the second half on thier line , where we executed it perfectly got Masi on his outside where the right arm fend to cause the winger to collapse and get Luke a stroll over to win , and wighton was Luke nope . 99 times out of 100 on any other player and that’s 4 points in the bank .
Bula actually I thought was passing too early or not at all … but down the right . I think with the centres who normally set up down that side in Toa and May, you have 2 weapons who can beat just man and create space for thier winger . As good as Turuva is , I think we saw last night his skill set is beating a man with his footwork and causing you to miss … not beat a man cause the defense to colapae then flick pass / pass to the edge or inside .
For me I’d be tempted to get Herbert in at centre , put Turuva back on the wing , Skelton to the left and Luke L back to 19th man . Especially with the halves going down . More stability defensively .
All of this is too say to everyone . Stop being childish re. Bula . You’re all kicking rocks and picking jokes in his game so if he does leave you can tell yourselves “He WaS ShIt AnYwAy”.
For me I think he really needs to work on his 3v2, 2v1 , 4v3 , especially his cutout ball , and holding the ball in 2 hands. His basketball background has been amazing for hand eye coordination, flick pass , holding the ball in one hand , but a little bit detrimental in holding in natural 2 hand , what am I going to do , which helps especially with hitting the cutout ball . I’m no expert but it looks like when he launches the long pass , it comes from his arms and not his hips , unlike say a Reece Walsh where the power is generated from his hips .
That’s where I think Bula could be one of the best fullbacks in the game if he can be a little more deceptive and natural with his passing .
But he’s a gun. A big loss if we lose him.
