Juniors - Pathways General Discussion

Max Elias was one of the standouts for Holy Cross Ryde. Yes he is related to former Holy Cross, Balmain and Kangaroo hooker Ben Elias. It will be interesting to see how many of these players are contracted to Balmain and WTs noting the departures of Nasser and Conti from the Balmain juniors. Perhaps someone from the Pathways team can advise?

Wasn't there some news recently that Nasser had come back to our club?

Big effort considering 5 of the 7 Balmain juniors in this side are part of the Tigers u16 development team.

Both the Kanaan brothers were strong and Azzi was also great controlling the game.

Given Bronson is a former holy cross boy he'd surely have re-connected strongly with the school and hopefully we're offering most players a pathway.

3 Wests Tigers pathways players make Daily Tele's top 50 schoolboys prior to the national championships this week.

#4 Onitoni Large
#12 Haemasi Makasini
#28 Pheonix Godinet

A few other familiar names in there Mikey Nassar, Alex Conti & Aaron Keppie.

Take it all with a grain of salt.

Anyone with a subscription care to post who the top 10 are?

With the Raider's latest ploy to sign as many NSW u19s players as possible and given we, due to our ladder position, have to pay overs for established players, it would make sense to target a couple of the best up-and-comers to complement what we have in our pathway. Perhaps Williams, Hopgood and one of the backrowers would be a good start.

Why would they create this list BEFORE the carnival?

The dragons backrower (#10 on the list) plays a similar style to David Fafita. Played in the SG Ball premiership team while still at school

Wests Tigers would like to congratulate Balmain junior representative hooker Jared Haywood on being selected in the 2024 Australian Schoolboys side.
Haywood featured for NSW Combined Catholic Colleges in today’s ASSRL U18 Nationals Final, coming off the interchange bench in their emphatic 40-12 win over NSW Combined High Schools.

The 18-year-old has progressed through Wests Tigers' Pathways system and played his first season of SG Ball Cup with the Tigers earlier in 2024.

As a member of Wests Tigers’ Black Cubs squad, Haywood has trained with the
club’s Jersey Flegg Cup (U/21s) team since the conclusion of the SG Ball Cup competition and looks set to make his debut at that level in the coming weeks.

Congratulations Jared on this outstanding achievement.

Jared Haywood looks a talented young player.
I wonder if the starting hooker Lachlan Coinakis is related to James Coinakis who has played a game or two for our Jersey Flegg team earlier this season ?
Interestingly Makasini didn’t get selected.

Nikora Williams who was selected at centre over Makasini has already played Jersey Flegg for the Sharks. Son of ex Magpie Jason.

The half Rodwell is the son of ex Steeler Brett.

Ok that would make Nikora Williams the younger brother of Turoa Williams currently playing Jersey Flegg/NSW Cup for the Roosters, but also played for Concord-Burwood Wolves at one stage.
Toby Rodwell has an older brother Tom Rodwell who plays NSW Cup for the Jets and scores his fair share of tries.
