OFFICIAL Lachlan Galvin #277 *Released* Career Discussion.

The whole “won’t release him unless we get a good trade” thing is a myth.

It doesn’t happen in real life. We didn’t get it for Ivan, Aloaia, Matterson. Dragons didn’t get it for Lomax and Warriors didn’t get it for AFB.

If we let him go we’ve lost a player on minimum wage who happens to be in the top 3 players in the top 30.

As long as no one finds out, you’re sweet.
Our club needs to stop telling the world how good our juniors are.
You don’t hear Bellamy or a Bennett talk up their young blokes like we do.
One of their young guns has a cracking good game and they’ll say “yeah, he’s coming along slowly, still lots to work on, but it’s encouraging”.
One of our young blokes has a pearler and we’re shouting from the rooftops “this kid will captain his country one day, it’s encouraging because we have another 4 or 5 coming through just like him in the next year or so”.

I hear you and kind of agree … unfortunately they can’t sell the results on the field so they gotta do something to try to keep fans happy and engaged …and to have some hope ..

I don’t buy the juniors thing … we have been hearing it for years but nothing changes … plenty here do believe it from what I read … The only way they will get out of this is to buy some cheap NRL level players that actually perform on the field .. just like the Dogs this year and the Warriors last year ..

Can you explain that in a different way?

I am pretty confident from what I have heard he will be gone at the end of his contract, that was the feeling at the start of the year we were a stepping stone. He has a manager that knows how to get this stuff done end of next year he announces he is leaving and agitates for a release for 2026, and he has Stage Parents too. When he leaves it won't be to St George either it will be one of Roosters or perhaps Penrith.

what can we do, hopefully we don't lose latu fainu in the process (we shouldnt)

What’s happened with Da Silva? He was the toast of the club last year, but this year? I’ve almost forgotten he’s still with us.
What about Faagatu? He was highly rated before he came to us.
Galvin is one who has kicked on. Matamua not so much.
By years end we need to know what the rest can do.

Stepping stone, great I would go nowhere near an upgrade on him if that’s the case. Offer him only an upgrade if he extends further two more seasons minimum. Otherwise just use him to grade Latu in and then back to KOE or he can play lock!

Flano said no to the release, so he signed on for another year?
You don’t suppose his contract was upgraded or some other carrot introduced?
I think some players ask for a contract upgrade and perhaps are not taken seriously or clubs are slow to react, hence the threats to leave as a motivator?
Both Galvin and Hunt are similar in that they both are crucial to their teams success, so it’s understandable

Hunt was told he wasn’t leaving before the extension agreement happened. Do you really think giving him an extra year made all the difference?

If he stays the two years … he has gotta be playing first grade to want to keep him ..

If his attitude doesn’t change and he prefers to play NSW Cup .. you may as well trade him at least 1 year early and try to get something for him …

I’m hoping that he might change his attitude when JL arrives … they still have to start winning though

It’s not as though he is sucking on the field and playing like a kid not wanting to win. I don’t see that happening be a sure fire way to miss out on a very lucrative deal otherwise in 2yrs time.

I can’t see Richo giving the kid an upgrade without a few more years agreed then letting him go 12mths later.

Richardson did link the upgrade to an extension of his contract. Intuitively, I tend to think this is as much a strategy to know where he (or is manager is at). A rejection will confirm all we need to know hence the comment about anti-tampering.

My take is the convo will be - he is here for 2yrs and that won’t change. So he can earn alot more money and agree to an extension or play the 2yrs at a reduced rate, either way he won’t be granted a release.

He is certainly one of our best 17 already .. and you would imagine he will keep improving as he gets more experience…

Let’s hope it stays that way … Do you recall what happened with Moses when he stopped trying?

If this was true, why would Richo even be fighting to keep that kind of locker room cancer about?

It's career suicide if true.
I find it very hard to believe too.

Firstly, he's supposedly a quiet kid & that would be out of character.
Secondly, his team mates would be massively pissed off led by captain Api & would bring him into line with a stern talking to.

Now 1 of 2 things should happen ...

1 If true, Lachlan should be reprimanded by team mates (including dying his hair like Api & Bud had to do) & issued with a 'please explain' to Richo, Benji & co for bringing the club into disrepute.

2 If false, Richo should come out publicly and say he has spoken to Lachlan who has denied it and file a complaint against News Corp with NRL.

Either way I'm pissed too and I want someone to pay consequences for their actions.

Yeah I get that too.

If I was Richo, I would still stop short of telling him he's our guaranteed 5/8. He will have the opportunity as should other guys (ie Latu) and that he may be played in other positions for his development (much like his mate Blaize over at Parra).

Moses and Galvin very different situations.

Galvin as an 18yr on a base contract with another 2yrs to go has alot more to lose than Moses an established NRL player on good coin and 6mths left does if Galvin stopped trying. He plays 2yrs in KOE worse case if that happened.

The situation of his cap hold, Luai and Fainu mixed with currently Bud, AD and Sezar options are very different for us as well.

I agree with the position part. Hate it when players chuck the toys out of the cot if asked to play another position.

Can’t see him extending his contract anytime soon, even if he will be forced to see out his current deal on average coin. Moses is like a dog with a bone, he will keep banging on the door for the release and the publicity it generates has a extremely negative affect on the club.

Also it would probably suit a team to get him in a few years down the track when he is a hardened NRL player.

If and when they reject our offer I would get Latu into no6 and use Galvin as a 14
