It's disappointing that it has turned out like this. Would've been a huge gain to have him in our backline but this just shows his heart was never in it and only coming for the money. With our recent history the only players we will get will be the ones that want bulk coin, or are unwanted by everybody else. It sucks but it is what it is. It's where we are at as a club.

**A bit of stability, a team that plays their guts out and the tide will turn.**

Been hearing that for a good while now, meanwhile teams that regularly finish below us and often have cap problems somehow manage to snare some of the better players on offer each year. Honestly It boggles my mind.

It’s been an absolute circus surrounding Latrell Mitchell. Players get absolutely crucified if they start asking for more money 1.5 years before their contract is up.

Yet all Latrell has done is what people want. See out his contract & then discuss his future at the right time.

Crazy how much the media can control a narrative completely disregarding there’s a young man involved. 🤦‍♂️ // #blokeinabar

Ahh the emotions of the forum...Take the POM at his word and move on. Latrell wasn't the issue in all of this, it's another peanut manager thinking he can play clubs off of each other that's the problem.

Quick question Willow, im not sure in this thread or another i read ( im paraphrasing ) that something had happened that was better than you expected. Any info, what it was.

See this is what I don’t understand. Can’t these ‘adult’ players make a decision on their own without having to cowtow to their manager’s wishes? If they want to accept the offer and they don’t agree with the way their manager is handling things, can’t they just override them? It’s their life and their career after all.

Mitchell was never coming here ...

I put the same qustion yesterday and somebody on the forum told me that all footballers at 22 years old are "dopes". He told me he knows becasue he has been a footballer for many years.

I'm just saying .. Managers of players are shifty bugers .. they string the club along til they get the best dollar for themselves first, then their client second .. the more money they can wrangle out of a club for their client .. the more money the manager gets. Don't be surprised with all this shanagans go on that Latrell had no call in it with the manager delaying the signing so he could get top dollars .. but now it may have back-fired on him. As others have said Latrell is on holidays so the manager has been doing all the wheeling and dealings .. if Latrell is pissed with this .. and I hope so .. and this is why we have left the door ajarred .. Lateral just might say you idiot I was gonna get a million bucks a season and you have lost it .. screw you, I'm gonna take the Tigers offer .. !! That's how I hope it all turns out .. !!

If this correct the surely Mitchell would come back to Wests Tigers. He is now in Limbo land this coming season unless there are some incredible shonky moves from one club in particular,

Has his management actually come out and said anything in the media about today’s events. It would be interesting to hear what they have to say and if they are willing to smoke the peace pipe.

You would imagine they have something else pretty well stitched up to walk away from a million bucks a year

Yeah, they've gone for the Roosters deal.

He is still contracted to the Roosters anyway doesn't have to do anything. As soon as South's money comes through he will either get an immediate release or the Roosters have enough talent to do what they like with him next season.

It's not a bad plan to be honest.

We released Matterson and Marsters early and now our best hope is to POSSIBLY sign Luciano Leilua and Zane Musgrove. I think this leaves us with a weaker squad than 2019. Paying $2000 for Season Tickets to NOT make the Semis again is a decision that will haunt me

Luciano is 100% with us, all pieces are falling in place and the Pom confirmed it

But we were told "We won't be releasing Matterson early unless it benefits Wests Tigers" we've negatively impacted our squad by releasing him BEFORE we had a better player secured.

It benefited us by not having to pay him a cent from his 2020 contract when we did...meanwhile the Rorters are paying Mitchell 14K a week to go fishing

That makes zero sense, Maybe I'm missing something.

Wests had a player who was worth ~ double what they were playing him but had a contract. That's sports. They did not have to release him but if they did, they would want market value for him, not what his contract was for.

So no, they didn't save 350 from 2020, they lost a 600+k player they were paying 350k for. That 350k will mean sweet FA in the cap situation and that move has greatly weakened the team.

I'm still at a loss to know what Wests got from the "deal". Apart from shafted. again. By poor management. Again.

Just like what Geo said... What's the matter son didn't want to be here so he was released... he will just cause a heap of problems and that WEAKENS the team

geez some people don't look at the whole picture... shortsightedness ???

Huh? I agree, people do not look at the long term picture..... Regardless of him not wanting to play with the club or not, he had a contract. Matto at 70% effort would be better than what is at the club now. Add to that the precedent that's been now been cemented with the latest turncoat to run to parra is if you dont like the club, just leave when you want.

Wests had a real chance to either get a player of RM market value or send a strong signal that he can rot in reggies. RM you would think would want to play well to get the next contract so he wouldve played in the firsts. If you think that wests proving to be a soft target, again, is sort sighted...well, you're just naive

If he was not already on the outer with most of the squad, then I too would have enforced the contract and/or demanded something in return. As it is, the club has saved about $30k of cap money thus far for this past month by releasing Matterson and that will be put toward his replacement.

@NT_Tiger there’s no roosters deal. They took it off the table.

!! Good deal eh? Beats a million a year hands down, just ask his manager.

No point hanging on to a poison player. I think his die were cast when he tried to go to a team event and was told to bugger off.

What's the obsession with Lomax?

From what I've seen he's nothing flash
Him and Xerri are the most overrated players in the game

Just out of curiosity, of those players available, who do you rate?

Going out on a limb here....none that would come to Wests Tigers

Can the tiges hold onto the money they have until 2021 when there are better players available? because the general consensus is those players that are available don't look particularly fantastic...

It's a matter of whether we can forward pay some of the contracts. Guys who we know will be at the club for the long term, like Brooksy. But it would be limited how much we can do.

I am pretty sure that is no longer an option, unless the current contract is extended and only then can payments be restructured as part of that process.

Would it have been great to have Mitchell’s X factor? Yes....oh well looks unlikely now....I believe we need to make a play for positions we need improvement with that are available....FB needs help but no players on the market, imo we keep Corey there for the year let him have a full pre season training there, maybe he gets better, we can also see how dillion and abbey develop so three choices in our own backyard, also lomax will be spending the yr at fb for the Drags, maybe he’s horrible and it’s good we didn’t sign him or maybe he’s a gun and we do, for me FB won’t be fixed unless thommo improves out of sight or one of the above take the role in 2021....however we most definitely have other issues like a good starting prop, X factor back and edge forward....what I’m saying is we use this year to sign players with potential and see how the fair, if they turn out guns re sign if not whatever go out big bucks in 2021...we already have huge prospects coming through with the likes of Talau and mikaele...I’m telling you the next couple of years are going to be good ones.
