Latrell Mitchell Contract Discussion

This Trell saga has been an early Christmas present to the rugby league media.

In an otherwise quiet period, up pops Trell and Voila!

Here are daily stories, click-bait, heart-tugging, days-of-our-lives type human interest story , our daily dose of a footy whodunit (better than any Agatha Christie), and still there's no last chapter in sight!

Then, add to that, readership of all things Wests Tigers is massive.

As they used to say: stop the presses!

Could be Latrell saying ‘up yours’ to roosters in signing with Souths.Tigers should move on and chase other players

Unfortunately we have tried and got nothing in regards to a quality player.. We have all the money but cannot give it away

At the end of the day, life goes one. We are in a great financial position, one which will only grown stronger at the end of the 2020 season. We will eventually attract some marquees. Might be in a couple of years, who knows. It might take the COE being completed to show top players we mean business. Players will become available over the course of next season and we will continue to build. Moving in the right direction and have done since the acquisition of Madge. I’m optimistic and not throwing all my eggs into the Latrell basket. He has shown enough now to know tigers aren’t his first preference and that in itself is a concern.

The key will be making the top 8 next year. COE is all fine and nice, but we will only show we mean business by being competitive on the field, not just a team with nice guys or a team others believe they'll beat most weeks. Making the 8 is imperative to us building in 2021.

The forgotten man nrl rumours explained the hole thing with great detail I think he’s comming here and it will be announced this week my fingers are crossed anyway haha

Just read the last 8 pages ...bit like paddling that wire canoe up that well known creek

I'm starting to think maybe Izzy wasn't such a bad idea

Latrell wouldn't sign a one year deal. That's ludicrous. That would ensure he remains in the media circus for the next 6 months or until he signs for 2021 which is the last thing in the world he wants.
He's already fed up with the media unfairly targeting him. Arrow has been taking even longer to make up his mind yet has largely avoided media scrutiny.

Yes, but Arrow already has a job for next season.

Even if Mitchell signs only for next seson the club will still be better off;

1. If Mitchell has any pride and NSW and Aust representation aspirations he will make sure he will play well in 2020.

2.If Mitchell leaves in 2021 Wests Tigers will be able in 2021 to recoup the $900k or whatever in CAP money for spending on a new quality fullback if needed.

3, With Mitchell playing to his ability in 2020 for Wests Tigers the club is likely to be a force in 2020 and the large the club will have available to spend for 2021 will attract many quality players to the club.

Gotta love some of the media stories “no official talks have taken place but has told Souths he will play for 800k”

Doesn’t matter, he won’t be at Souths next year. Can say he would play for $50. Won’t matter.

He’s also very out of shape. Will need to get the fitness happening. Looking more like 34 year old Owen craigie as each week passes.

I think it's wise to be fatalistic about it now.

I'm sure if he does end up here, it will be a great thing for the Tigers.

If not, and especially if he doesnt want to be here, then it wasn't meant to be.

Passion and desire will win more games than ability not expressed.

That is the most sane way of looking at what has been a five week circus.

Dunno how many players realistically at every point of their entire career play where they want to play. Situations present them selves and you need to adjust. I can see why Souths appeal to LM. Given their cultural effect on the indigenous community. Is that worth around 1 million dollars over 4 years to you in lost salary, only latrell knows that

$700,000 year 1
$1,300,000 year 2
$1,300,000 year 3 clubs option
Take it or take off
Our club needs balls
And not footballs either
If the deal is not already done then we need to cut all ties and move on
Take up a few of the best off contract players on 12 month deals and make them work for a longer contract
Big clean out in 2021 and we try and start again with a vault full of money

Souths seem to be getting very confident now and media reports favouring them...I'd hate too see him go there but could well happen.

Based on one clickbait article from Buzz? Lol he would be one of the last people in the media to find out

Souths seem confident, yet haven't said a word except for that they're not interested? And are looking to extend and upgrade walker

While a desperate club constantly dangles a permanent million $ a season in front of a player that obviously wants to go elsewhere he will not make a decision. The Tigers are looking desperate..time for the club to make it known LM is no longer required this obviously is not the case as it seems common knowledge a contract is on the table !
I have already stated if LM wanted his million a season he would of signed weeks ago,one week it is all about money today money is not the issue will play for the Bunnies for heaps less!
I am becoming tired of the way our club is dealing with this ,looks like begging to LM by the Chairman and Ceo is not far of ..the desperation being shown is not a good look!

99% of RL people couldn't give a rats or are even unaware.
Only people desperate for an outcome are 'desperate'

Nooo!
So we have money now. We have maybe 2 players worth 700K. Next two years we could be trying to retain someone. We should do the exact opposite. Get someone we know is good and frontload that contract while we have the cash. Then in the next 2-3 years we will actually have the cash to build the team.
