Lomax is has become a buzzword that everyone has latched onto. I’d bet half the people campaging we sign him haven’t even seen him play. It’s become even more annoying than Curtis Rona which is saying a lot.

Lomax is an excellent talent and will play rep football imho. There are people at the dragons(officials and supporters) who rate him better than Mark Gasnier.
He would be an ideal player for us

I pretty much agree with Cairnstigers post above.
A couple of things from my perspective. No, Maguire is no fool and will want to get it right, not just from getting a marquee player point but also best fit for the team. The last thing he'll want at this time is another Matterson. Pascoe has been burnt with the Voldemort signings so he too will be looking carefully at this, and no doubt the new chair has said 'get it right'.
To me it looks like Latrell is drifting in the flow and considering all his options. The big negative there is his numerous dubious advisors.
I'd be surprised if Latrell is behind the stalling. I reckon that would be from his manager.
At the point in time the Roosters pulled their contract offer, I'm picturing his manager telling Mitchell to test the market, hoping for a bidding war. Only problem there is no-one had any cash. So now the manager has to put on a show to try to generate interest, and convince Latrell that he is actually doing something for his paycheck.
I suspect that however it is being played out, Maguire and Pascoe are keeping a close eye on it and I reckon they will have some other recruitment plans if it all goes to the proverbial.
Pure speculation on my part.

So Latrell is looking less likely to join us. Can someone tell me what we got out of releasing Ryan Matterson?

Just salary cap space with no one to spend it on? If that’s the case why not demand a player in return or sit him in second grade. We had the advantage and got nothing in return.

Be nice to get some good news for once.

I am guessing membership numbers are struggling so far

i keep seeing this argument about if we dont get LM "what did we get out of releasing Matterson? We should have forced him to reggies". It is so short sighted.

If Matterson is still with us, we are not even talking to Mitchell, or Arrow. If Matterson is still with us, we are talking to the bargain basement players we ALWAYS talk to AND we have a disgruntled player polluting the players culture.

Agree Glenn. Matterson by all reports has been a disruption since the origin period. It was the best outcome to be rid of him. There are few players of quality available atm, but once Latrell signs somewhere the dominoes should fall and if we miss out on him, we will have money and opportunity.

Prehaps today is the day 😯

The Latrell barometer is like the bushfire warning scale..it changes daily a few days ago it was catastrophic now we are back to moderate.

Hard to really know where this is all headed. At the end of the day it really doesn’t matter because we and the club have zero control on what Latrell decides to do and there will always be another kid who will take his chance with us

I am honestly getting to the stage of thinking that giving him a deadline is the way to go.He has had more than enough time to consider what we are offering.
Our club is more important than any player either at the club or potential signing of the future,Balmain realised that many years ago by giving Tim Brasher who was the best back we had a deadline on a contract extension. He delayed his decision until 5 minutes after the deadline and the club said "too late" even though he had agreed to terms. This is the sort of attitude we need imho.

The major concern for me is the alleged lack of communication from his manager with our club ( this week) I think it's extremely unprofessional and as much as i want Mitchell to sign with us, makes me very, very wary about what this manager may be like through the contract period. I realise and would expect his manager to get the best deal possible for his client, but the alleged ducking and weaving avoiding communication with us is a red flag.

@jadtiger How do you know he's had more than enough time? I thought his manager said they were meeting to discuss our offer this week. Yesterday? Today? I don't know.

Lol but but my inside source told me it was done last week.

:face_with_rolling_eyes:

Some of you need to go back to your sources and get their thoughts on all these meetings happening post contract being signed, seems weird huh.

Why do we need to issue a deadline? Who else are we going to miss out on If this carries on? Arrow? We can afford as well as latrell. Lomax? Isn't he a centre? It's not as if we have 2 superstars vying fo the same position. We have enough in the cap in the next 2 years to sign a couple of big names.
These things take time. As long as Madge is happy with the negotiations, then that's all that matters.

Thoughts from the peanut gallery. People don't have the first clue about whats going on, yet say the club needs to give him a deadline. All because they're sick of being kept in the dark. And you're right, how does it affect our recruitment. No one knows who else we may be talking to. And if you think giving him an ultimatum would scare him into signing the same way the Cows used him to get Holmes, give yourself a triple.

NQ GM Peter Parr confirmed what we all knew, he admitted on big sports breakfast that they don't have the funds for LM. He was then asked if Jake Granville left the club could they afford him; he gave a straight up "no" answer. It's between us and GC, Burgess injury retirement won't be sorted for a few weeks. Latrell doesn't have time to wait it out that's why I think any discussion about pulling out offer is futile - we'd effectively be gifting him to the Titans by pushing his hand. With a new coach and Arrow likely to leave I'd say we're still front runners. I would even up our offer as I mentioned earlier, give him the godfather offer. Let's see what news today holds..next few days interesting
