@Newtown Are the NRL media seriously that moronic? There's no plausible way the Cowboys could get Latrell... 1. They have 3 players on $1m each already 2. They just signed Valentine Holmes to a lengthy and lucrative deal to play fullback, which means Latrell will have to shift somewhere else in the backline which he clearly doesn't want to do.

It's pretty obvious that Latrell was used as bait for Holmes, and everyone but the journos understands that. I get they're running out of material to write about, but surely they'd have had to give up on the Latrell to Cowboys by now. Even the whole Titans rumour, Meninga has come out and said that they have $100k in their cap. It's us our Souths.

Who says anything is being deliberately leaked by the negotiators? Maybe people who are close, but obviously not close enough, are making semi informed guesses and all the rest is assumption or based on rumour.

Yes, the 2nd part. I’m not saying they have miss handled the contract negotiations. They’ve either misunderstood how the negotiations have progressed or we have a couple of rouge people at our club guessing and making up stories to confirm their guesses. Keep it in house. Keep the media out of it. When the telegraph and other media outlets call the club to ask what’s happening with LM say everything but give nothing. When the media publish articles like the latest squad info implying that LM is already at the club or the backpage with Ellery Hanley on the back cover saying best signing since. Ring them up and tear them a new one, so that they know that the club doesn’t appreciate speculation. This information is precious and should be treated as such. So then when the big reveal comes it is a big reveal because no one outside the circle knows nothing to begin with.
Then we can all party!

Sadly you can’t keep the media out of it - IMO. If they don’t get information they just make it up. Journalists no longer report newsworthy stories - they just write sensationalised crap in order to get people to click on their stories. It’s ridiculous.
Then we give them notoriety on Fox and they have a pissing contest on TV as who knows more than who. It’s comical. Hooper, Crawley and Ritchie are embarrassing.

I disagree. I don't think the Club could have done more with the negotiation. Once the offer was made the ball is in Mitchell's court and he's on holidays.
The only other thing the club could have done is not make any offer at all. Then there would be no rumours.
The club, as fantastic as it is, is not in control of all variables at all times and the media and managers play their games.
If you choose to jump on the assumptions and rumours bandwagon, go for it, but don't kick the club without firm intel that they have ballsed it up. Just because somebody says they have the inside goss doesn't mean they do.
Footnote: Remember, one of the main leaks being posted on this forum claims his supposed 'inside' source is not from WT but from the Roosters.
