Disagree. It is not Souths that want out of the deal? Really? I’m sure they’d love to put his total money on their cap the next few years.

I am sure they would much prefer to have Burgess playing! He has retired!

I would think it’s a good bet that WT didn’t announce Ben’s retirement as they were trying not to invoke the ire of the NRL again, saying nothing until they were sure what was going on.

Of course they could have announced his retirement and then sought removing his salary after the fact. There are no rules preventing a player from retiring from the game so what ire would they have invoked? It appears that Ben's retirement was conditional on him being paid his salary and it being removed from the cap.

They can’t spend his salary, he has a contract!

His contract for next year is $400k, his offer is $800k so it is possible they have spent the extra money in his offer.

The greatest disappointment would be if he chose the Titans imo. Signing with Souths/staying with Roosters over us would be understandable. But the Titans would be a real kick in the teeth.

Without a doubt he'll be staying with the Rorters .. yes he is stil under contract with Chooks at around $400K per season .. LM wanted an upgrade to his contract, Chooks offered $800K per season .. but LM turned it down .. so if he goes back to the Chooks he will be on the is so call $400K .. but having a meeting this week with Politis will more than likely mean that LM will be receiving a lot more in his brown paper bag from now on.

Why else would you knock back our offer of $1M per season .. and stay on $400K .. especially since he said .. "I have look after and do the right thing for my family from now on" .. ;-)
