Why is Liddle not re-signed? Surely with the patience the club has shown he's not looking at getting more money elsewhere?

Poker face Barrett most likely scheming behind the scenes to coax Liddle

do think if dogs don't get Brandon Smith they go after Liddle.
if he does agree to terms with dogs then we would be mad not to blood simpkin more for 2022 season

Love your passion Russ, but the club have shown this kid more than enough loyalty, any other club would have cut him loose years back with his injury record, not re-signed him like they did

Loyalty works both ways - they have to give him the opportunity to show loyalty back.

He only has maybe 7-8 years left, he has to look after himself - a lousy 1 year is a joke. If they can't see he is the best DH in the club at the moment they don't deserve him. Would think Robbo is keeping an eye.

more like robbo will be keeping an eye on simpkin

Yes, you maybe right - he likes the way he stands with hands on hips instead of defending. Says he'll be good in the Rorters RMC.

Russ in my honest opinion.Liddle has had a fair bit of NRL experience compared to Simpkin, even though his development was halted through injury,he was touted the heir to Robbies throne...
Simpkin was signed because they saw huge potential in the kid....The club should be glad they have both these players, they both are talented and Simpkin is still learning his trade,Liddle will only get better at his in the not to distant future....

TT it is my turn.

I sat back for a month and watched Simpkin very closely and I would say impartially. Many and I say many raved on for weeks when Liddle played the first five games of the season and rubbished him, "his defence is terrible," "his passing is very slow," "he is quick but doesn't run from DH," "He can't play 80 min," "he is injury prone" and so on and so on.

"Simpkin needs to be given a chance," "he's the next Harry Grant," "the kids a star," "won't be long before he is a SOO hooker," "this guy has been ripping it up in Reggies, needs to be in the NRL instead of Liddle" and so on and so on.

Well, from what I saw (don't care if he played 3 games or 50 in the NRL or how old he is 19 as opposed to the ancient Liddle at 24), and I am judging him NOW - not after 50 games, because people want him in the team NOW, not in 50 games time.

Verdict - currently he is not as good as Liddle, he has too many things to work on, to even be on the bench. Standing around with hands on his hips after passing the ball from DH and watching play and then just jogging to the PTB after the next one is not on. Hogging the ball and going himself, when there was an overlap and we could have scored had the ball gone through the hands. Invariably choosing the wrong option at DH is frustrating to other players to say the least. Defence is very ordinary. loves being third man in to up the figures.

Yes he was signed because he had potential. he hasn't reached anywhere near NRL level AT THIS POINT, needs to learn his trade first, before applying same trade in the NRL. (The NRL is not a pre-school).

Yes I defend Liddle - he needs someone to speak up for him, even though his game does that for him.

I don't think he deserves to have his chance taken away from him by some kid "wet behind the ears" that is not ready for the NRL.

Maybe he will be the next Cameron Smith (why stop at Harry Grant) - However, he is NOT at the moment and the team plays currently with a lot more cohesion when Liddle is at DH.

liddle has had 50 games to prove himself
he has had his chance, 5 years of chances

Ok Jedi - I'm stopping this again right here. You are never going to convince me that Simpkin is a better DH than Liddle at the moment (nor in the next 18 months).

Seeing that you are Simpkins NO.1 Fan - I am not going to convince you of the opposite. I'll go back to not replying to any of your posts. It'll save us a lot time.

I was critical of Liddle but that’s because I expected better to start the year from someone soooooo talented and hungry. He is better than what we have seen. I wish he would run more because he has speed to burn however in the current version of the game not many hookers can run these days.

I was critical of him but mainly because I know he could play better than he was, wanted him to start the year on a buzz & make the spot his. I did expect more from him. In saying that it’s bloody hard with a very new forward pack, new halves and even center pairing. Everything around him changed and changed fast with Laurie joining as well. He has a big chance now to back himself and nail it.

Simpkin needs alot more time. He is 18mths off by the looks of it. Sure he can fill in and probably should get a few games, he is killing it in reggies but just needs to get miles back in his legs and learn the speed of the nrl to apply his trade. Again doesn’t help him with the halves, forwards and backline always changing.

I think liddle needs to turn up each week - as should be expected. Simpkin is breathing down his neck. One or two shockers or another injury (god hope not) and Simpkin gets another shot and maybe holds it down. Waiting for Liddle to have a blinder. He deserves a shot and hope he has a great 80 min game this week

Let's see if he can handle 80 mins - struggled with it earlier in the year would be a big benefit. Hope he runs the footy more too! Use that pace in attack not just defence.

Cause he isn’t up to the grade and Liddle out performed him in reggies.
Simpkin wasn’t up to nrl standard when made he made his debut either. He wasn’t shocking but he needs alot more time. This kid has huge huge wraps on him. Give him 12-18mths and have no doubts he will step up fine.

I like liddle and I do think he’s looked a little better than Simpkins at the moment, but I feel for someone who’s been around for a long time and had a full preaseason plus 11 rounds, he should be playing 80minutes easy. Start of the season he would slip off late in the game and give delayed ball to brooks, we don’t need that again. He should have some type of kicking game aswell! I garuntee you Simpkin in 5 years will have everything I mentioned. I do hope we resign liddle tho.

It was fantastic to see Liddle run down RTS when he made a break. He looked surprisingly fast.

All we need from the hooker is fast accurate passing from dummy half and to sometimes run and sometimes get it to Brooks on quick play the balls.

A dominant/controlling hooker like Hodgson or Cam Smith changes the whole roster, you spend less on halves, more on forwards and the back 3.

Wish he used that pace a bit more, needs to jump out and keep defences guessing like Korisau and Cook do

Really? I think Jacob Liddle is every bit as good as Koroisau and Cook; both of them are flat track bullies. Nothing more.

The good thing as well is that Liddle has been injury free since his return

If he stays injury free he is only going to get fitter and stronger ..his best is in front of him and some good offers will come ..i getting the feeling the club might be putting there eggs in the wrong basket.

100% agree. He is only going to get better. Has the right never give up attitude (you can’t coach that). I hope the club sees what he is doing.

hope he shows the same loyalty 2 the club as they did 2 him,in clubs favour of course,1 yr deal is ok

Never doubt his loyalty to us Mate.

I am more worried about the Club having any loyalty to him.

Haven't shown much in team selections to date this year. Simpkin was replaced to go and work on his game which has not been very good. Then because he was in the bubble he had to go to Magic Round. When he should have been working on his game last week in Reggies he ended up on the bench. We really became a different team when he replaced Liddle in the second half and didn't regain our mojo again until Liddle came back for the final minutes.

Blind Freddie can see that this kid is not ready for NRL and has a multitude of things to work on - standing with hands on hips after passing the ball from DH is JUST NOT ON! The sooner he starts putting in Effort with a capital E, stops hogging the ball and works out which way he should be passing the ball L or R, works on his speed and passing game, the better.

If we let Liddle go, or insult him with a one year contract - we deserve to lose him and stay in the bottom four.

Please go back into hiding

Looking at the negative reps you got for that comment, you might be the one getting the hiding.

By the way, none of those negatives were from me and I think I have gone on the record in the past stating that I'm not a fan of it.

Simpkin isn’t breathing down anyone’s neck at the moment. Slow and predictable. Has a great game once in a while. He needs to get his consistency up big time, or it could be a very short career

If Liddle is as good as most on here think then the club would have signed him before simpkin and also to a longer deal. The form with Liddle is exposed the club knows what they have a solid no frills first grader with 50 games experience over 5 years.
The club can see what simpkin has skill wise after 50 games and or 5 years they will have made the right call with simpkin
