I don't blame people for being annoyed after that effort, i was too, it was pretty pathetic. But it's stupid to think that the effort put in (or lack thereof) is a snapshot of what's to come for the season. Rightly or wrongly Taylor made it clear this weekend was not important. And it showed in the squad we picked and the way we played one out, going through the motions. 90% of our squad are off contract as well as the coach, it's safe to assume that no one will be coasting this year. 9's isn't a gauge of form. Would be like judging a test cricket player on their 20/20 form. The only guide worth anything are trials, and even they aren't a true reflection. So while we're disappointed with the attitude, let's not get carried away by reading more into it than it warrants.

I can not agree here .. when does this club actually want to be taken seriously ,plodding along is this the attitude , I support this club and I want to see some effort no matter what competition it is that is just me !

And that is a totally different argument. It's one thing to be critical of today, it's another to think it's going to carry over to the regular season.

**What makes you think we will improve on last year after watching this?**
Is Idris going to improve all our defence, we're pretty much trotting out the same side as last year and we just saw some of our depth on display.
Be realistic, our future isn't looking too bright.
Woods Teddy and Moses are our team but they can't compete against sides who also have 3 or 4 stars but another 4-8 top quality players.

You mean a Mickey Mouse 9's tournament that the club made clear they weren't taking seriously? Our season is down the drain already? Goodness me.

Is funny, there is a history of sides that win the 7's or 9's following up and going deep into the finals or winning the comp within a year or 2

I'm going to the Illawarra trial next week ..if we don't win by 50..I'm cutting up my membership…

I tend to agree with happy re: our attitude towards the tournament. I agree with resting players and what not, but it genuinely looked as though we hadn't spent a single session on 9 a side stuff. Not only that, but even when we were down, we continued weird one out stuff with slow PTBs. Zero adjustments, zero results. Were our teams stacked with middle forwards more than others? Certainly seemed that way in the way we played.

Performances were pretty concerning as well. Tackling was awful, general skills inept and we ran out of gas extremely quickly. The players looked like they didn't want to be there, but for that I can't blame them, given the attitude from management.

The worry I have is that the Dogs will take a long hard look at Brooks contribution that game, and scrutinise his efforts over the the first few rounds, and maybe modify his draft contract to exclude a zero or two and we'll get stuck with him!!
We don't have a NRL standard no 7 in the club IMO
On the plus side,ET looked stronger than last year,Aloisi showed some surprising speed coupled with increase in bulk and expect him to have a really good year, and Marsters some interesting footwork and may be a handful for opposing defences at some stage
If nothing else the 9s demonstrated the alarming gap between our top half dozen or so players and the rest..perhaps moreso than any other club (except the knights maybe)

So come March 2nd when Tedesco, Idris, Moses, Woods and Noffa are added to the team, people will be looking back on today and talking our chances down because of it. Can anyone honestly admit that?

By the same token, the Storm are adding Slater, Chambers, Cronk, J Bromwich and Vunivalu (and more).

Look, it's far from the end of the world, but surely it's disheartening today after we watched our guys go around like lambs for slaughter. Even in our history at the 9s we've seen guys like Tedesco have a couple of good games and carry that confidence into the real season. It's just a shame that we aren't looking similar fillip today, primarily because the club gave up on the event weeks/months ago.

The most concerning aspect of today was that previous weaknesses were exposed again with seemingly no improvement.
- 3 defenders in a tackle but fail to wrap the ball up, allowing the opposition to offload at will
- failing to number up in defense, allowing the opposition to create an overlap and score via simple catch and pass
- wide defenders racing up, taking no-one and being left standing in the oppositions line
- lack of lateral movement when defending our own line
- some absolutely shocking one on one tackle attempts.

Unfortunately you are correct it is as if they had done zero training in the off season

Not that it's important, because it's 9's after all. But look at the way we played. At one point we had a free play and we took a basic hit up. Had we been throwing the ball around we might have gotten closer. But we chose the opposite and we chose the opposite because we didn't care.

I took Taylor at his word when he said we didn't care if we won & made a small fortune betting against us. Hurrah!

They dont care so why should the fans? Or potential sponsors for that matter? Just a poor look and poor attitude from a club that is widely known as a soft one.

I agree with you - but that's why people are entitled to be upset IMO.
By all means pick a half-strength team or whatever, but at least have a go once you're over there.

Because they will be coming into a side just riding the crest of a massive tsunami of confidence , won't they ??

Stuff you happy you have just broken another sarcasm meter i should send you the bill.

The whole concept is a joke. Clubs with colours that no one knows. Players that nobody knows. Rules that most people don't know. Including the comentators. It is just a farce. Someone is making a lot of money from it I suppose, but really!

Wests seemed to be playing basic football. One up, one out etc.

No one hurt I hope?

I only saw bits and pieces, but did Rankin end up making ANY tackles? I noticed him miss about 4, but I was hoping that he could make one before the day was out.

Well we did sack the 2nd worst defensive coach over the last 2 years to buy the very worse one.

Didn't we get the 2 for the price of one deal on defensive coaches? Is there a 30 day period in which they can be returned if we are not completely satisfied?

Why can't the board over rule JT and have the best squad playing, loss to the Storm was ordinary.

Are you kidding?

This forum would go into meltdown if we played all our best players. They would whinge if they did and they are now whingeing because they did not. It is a Mickey Mouse concept and bears no resemblance to the real thing. Chill out.

:brick:

Last game i saw in standard league format,we got over powered and flogged.

Today we looked slow and fat in a format based on speed and athletic ability.

If we were a powerhouse team that finals footy was a prerequisite. I wouldn't make
as much of today.

I think we should compete in everything we do regardless
of the perception of the tournament.

We should be constantly working on the perception of the club and looking attractive
to every suitor. Be it sponsors, potential players and member.

We were a team perceived of entertainment and excitement factors. That's meandering
quick from my perspective regardless of format.

We are not positioned like a powerhouse club in any respect.

If that's how we want to represent ourselves.Well..

How are we going to fair if things aren't going well at round 10.

We've been reported like we're better than this tournament.

Maybe are we deflecting our mediocrity by down playing.

If you want good players, sponsors and larger member numbers…. Well....

Genuinely Compete regardless!
