Robbo congratulated Madge, calling him a fine coach on NRL360. Respected figure in the game. Now let him whip this roster into shape.

The roster he put together?

Whatever mate, half the marquee money was paid to major duds that hardly took the field. The young guys he did attract played well.

What’s been done with that money now it’s freed up?

If he signs whatever half-decent players that are currently available (Sims, Elliot, Peachy, Scott/Burns/Walker) and they don't work out people will be queuing to jump down his neck for those signings. But there isn't much else out there. So it's a bit of a hiding to nothing for him recruitment-wise for season '22.

4 or 5 of those players would bolster our team significantly IMO.

There was though. JAC, Finucane etc, and he couldn’t sign them either.

Didn't Finucane fall through because WT didn't want to give him the 4 year deal he was chasing (and got at Sharks)?
Happy we didn't go ahead with him for 4 years, Sharks will be lucky to get more than 1 year out of him on-field with all the head knocks he's been getting. JAC, meh, he's been on the decline a bit this year, IMO he will struggle at the Bulldogs just like he more than likely would of here. $700k or whatever he is on per season.

That's correct, we didn't fall for that trap - I'll be stunned if Finucane is still playing well in 3 years time let alone 4.

But his experience teaching our youngsters especially stef, twal and blore, on how to prepare etc would have been invaluable.
It would have been worth it for us to pay a 4th even if he had limited game time.
Big miss imo

It would be a criminal waste of money to pay Finucane what he wanted and then just watching him sit on the sidelines for 2 years like Packer

Don't think he would be sitting on the sideline for that long plus we wouldn't be paying him Packer money

He wanted 4 years at big money to come here,he is still a decent player but not cost effective for 4 years. The club got it right in not bowing down to what he wanted

600k is not big money for finucane compared to some of the trash we have

You don't base future decisions on past mistakes.

Recruitment should have this in bold on the whiteboard

Not sure if posted already but interesting to see the future captains opinion

That makes me question him as a future captain. Shows a lack of maturity.

Chairman Lee is an embarrassment, he just can't keep his mouth shut.

In all honesty, I consider this to be a stay of execuation. I don't think Madge will still be at the club when next years origin winners are ordained.

Couple things that I believe is imperative to madges safety beyond season 2022.
1) recruitment wins for 2023. If we can lure even 2 bigger high profile names to sign on for 2023, it will make the inevitable let downs of 2022 somewhat bearable.
2) major improvement in effort, particularly in defence. Providing nsw cup and junior comps return, Madge can really shift the team around by dropping the usual culprits who fail to turn up. Get 17 blokes out on the field every week that give a damn. If we finish 13th again but don’t die wondering, id be content.

100%

Even though there is naysayers, I'm still hopeful we can move on from contracted players, early.
Poor performers like Luke Brooks and David Nofoaluma told they're not part of the plans and to look elsewhere or shopped for trade deals with players who can benefit our squad more.

Yeah, they're contracted. It's happened many times before. It'd be gold to see.

No one is going to be stupid enough to take on Nofa's deal.

That’s easy to say that now? Madge is here, let it go and move on to something constructive.

Though in general I think they should avoid social media, I don't see the harm here. The coach has been dragged through the mud in the media, there has been repeated speculation that players aren't playing for him, it was even speculated on here that Doueihi himself didn't like Madge. It is refreshing to be reminded that players - including someone like Doueihi who's been moved around a bit - are behind the coach.

Close to it, he signed at Sharks for over 600k a season.

If nofo is on around 400k allegedly and tamou roughly the same, I'd have no trouble with him for 600k

Over paying someone just because others are also overpaid isn't smart business nor good cap management.

For the record my argument isn't about the money, I actually feel 600k a season is about right for him however any more than 2 or 3yrs and it's a massive gamble. Not many props are still producing at an elite level at 34 which is how old he'll be by the time his 4 yrs is up.

Wasn't one of the issues identified a disconnect with the football department...

"In the meeting, Maguire agreed to a range of provisions around the structure and operation of the football department in 2022, including the implementation of Tim Sheens in a coaching director role.

One of the other concerns that was raised, which was raised in the findings of the internal review, was a separation between the club and the football department.

Maguire was told there would need to be greater engagement between the club and football department, but also was made aware of the club's desire to have a greater say in the people he surrounds himself with."

More transference of authority, responsibility.

This critical important thing right now is to get everyone on the same page, this club was split down the middle during this process and AD with one tap of his finger added to that split. It is not the act of the leader we need him to be right now.

We want more say in something we know nothing about, so we can hold others responsible for our mistakes.

I really like Madge. He has his deficiencies as we all do, however the way he conducts himself and is unwavering is precisely why I still believe that he is the man to continue the rebuild.

Another year of pain IMHO.

Hopefully this long period of sustained underachievement by the Club across the past 16+ tears or so will be over soon.

Enjoy the break, We will be here waiting for you.

Apart from Farah I can’t think of anyone who fits the bill?

Rowdy

Absolutely. Wouldn't blame Rowdy if he didn't want to ever step through the doors again for us though. We wasted his career.

Pat Richards would be another I'd love to see involved more with the club.

Both Rowdy and Pat Richards are employed by the club. It is weird, we use our former players so poorly, you never ever hear from any of them, even the ones employed by the club. We have a wealth of former players who would talk positively about the club and counter some of the negative rubbish that gets driven by Blocker, Benny and co. Using our own former players will build the identity of the club, at the moment it is like a player stops playing for us and they cease to exist. I spoke to Galloway at an Ambush event earlier in the year and asked him about his current involvement and he said he absolutely no involvement with the club but you could tell there was a desire to be involved.

Why isn't the club using these guys to generate positive stories about the club.

Because we're run by nimrods?

Wasn't Nimrod a biblical figure known as a mighty man?
