My issue is we were genuinely hoping that all our 50-50 buys paid off.
Here's an alternative view
For the first time that I can remember our reserves and our junior teams are booming. This if done correctly gives us first crack to keep them.
It's also along time since we had people in the lower grades we have been genuinely excited for and that can pressure the top grade.
We have had limited cap space and taken some low risk high reward swings at players. Said players are all on team friendly contracts.
Jtj, bugger all money huge upside. Hasn't really offere we alot
Joey, has been a beast in the past sign for a decent contract but with team opitions. Hasn't lives up to the hype.
James tamou, brought in to lead a very young pack on smallish money. Achieving how I thought he would. Will slowly be lowering his minutes but will hopefully teach the younger fellas professionalism.
Joffa another purchase with broncs paying a chunk of his salary. Personally think he has been a good buy playing solid.
I'll leave out the others like ad, Lucy etc.
Now we literally have a tonne of cap coming up as well. So overall we are heading in the right direction and it may be a case of madge builds the infrastructure and someone comes in to finish the job but I have been impressed with our overall direction. We are not a big market club and I doubt big market club is doubt we sign a super star we need a strong core and add a future junior star and we are having a crack at that.
So I guess this sucks but it was always the potential as we have gambled the short term on 50-50 player as we couldn't jagg the laterals addo Carr's etc
Our recruitment policy for youngsters has been excellent since Hartigan came into the fold, and our depth is certainly in a great spot, but when it comes to first grade our recruitment has been poor. Wests Tigers need high percentage players that do their job week in week out to turn the view of the club around. Momirovski, Thompson, Eisenhuth & ET were all good examples of this and they've left recently. In their place are low percentage players in Leilua, Roberts, Kepaoa, Mikaele and Joffa who on their day can produce anything, but the difference between their best and worst is leagues apart. Imagine Thompson and Momo defending our left edge? ET playing 13? Huth on the bench to shore up the middle?
We don't need a marquee that is going to cost millions and set the world alight, we need good honest players that are consistent. Braidon Burns is one of them. Reuben Garrick is another. Throw the bank at Dale Finucane. Players that do their jobs. We don't have many of those this year.
I agree and disagree. If you are building your team around thomo, huth, and et you literally are struggiling they are depth players tops. They can't be your core. Momo the jury is still out I think we will regret letting him go even though he us top 5 in errors this year.u agree that we need to build a solid consistant team that we can introduce our juniors to
Not saying they have to be our core, but you can't continue to fill a squad with low percentage players that we live in hope will one day string together consistent performances. Guys like Laurie, Doueihi, Talau, Simpkin, Blore, Stefano and Simpkins will provide the 'star power' in the coming seasons, its the players you put around them that ultimately decide your fate though. Good, consistent players that aim up in defence, can catch and pass on the fringes and run a decent line. We've let too many of them go in the past 12 months and it was there for all to see on Sunday.
