Madge Maguire - Mega Thread

I wonder who Grant's manager was during his career (if he had one)? Some of those contracts he signed bit him hard & you'd want to question the management advice that he may have been given...

The article just shows how the game will chew you up and spit you out. The number one take away for me is look after your money. It’s not about what you earn, it’s what you save.

That is the tone of the article, and that the poor bugger is now working in the mines, but it does also spell out that he was earning upwards of $600K a year during that time which incredible money for an untrained, unqualified guy. Probably earning decent $$$ in the mine now as well.

Doesn’t sound like he had brains outside of footy. Everyone telling him it won’t last forever and he was like “yeah yeah whatever”. Sounds like his support system sucked.

Agree and FWIW I dont think Tim was playing the "woe is me" role either but that is the angle the journalist was going for. I think its more "I bought the ticket and enjoyed the ride".

I didn’t see that way. I was annoyed at his stupidity though. He can’t help getting injured, but I’m assuming he got all his money? If so, the fact he has to do a 6 hour round trip everyday to work in a mine, 6 or 7 years later is a giant downfall.

I think you would be surprised how much he is earning in that mine. There is a reason he is taking the 6 hour (what route from Penrith to Helensburgh takes 3 hours?) round trip and it not because he cant get work closer to home.

I am surprised he would live at Penrith when Stanwell Park, Coledale, Austinmer and Thirroul offer a superior lifetstyle and much shorter travelling time.

Cya mate. Thanks for the worst defensive season we've had since 2001 and somehow missing finals in a season you only needed 10 wins

Wonder what happens if we sack Madge and then get the spoon next season while still being unable to attract players.

Maybe we fold.

Nah

Careful what you wish for?

Madge being sacked is no real surprise but if Pascoe, Hartigan and Hagipantellis don’t follow him out the door nothing will be achieved.

I’m just hoping this basket case of a club has lined up a suitable replacement. I can live with Ciraldo/Sheens, Bennett or Flanagan.

If they appoint an English coach this is an ass covering exercise.

He sounds like every young bloke ever.

And he had enough brains to figure out it was 'just business' pretty early on, so good on him.

There'd be an endless list of guys that played 'needled up' (and if they do it in a Grand Final they are celebrated forever), I don't see anything in that article showing Maguire or the Tigers in a negative light.

It is being stated that Ciraldo doesn’t want to come, so I am guessing Flanagan?
If it’s all true?
