He came across genuinely frustrated and disappointed tonight, and rightly so. I don't know how he fixes it though. Some players definitely need to be dropped after tonight.

The lack of defensive resolve is the thing that does my head in. If the players used their shoulders, numbered up and hit hard, we wouldn't be in this position. The coaching staff definitely need to have the microscope put over them too in this regard.

There's no easy answers...

I believe in his coaching ability but not his team selection - the reserves are absolutely killing it but he turns a blind eye to stick with the same old recalcitrants, preferring to select players out of position rather than promote position specialists from reserves.

The coach has set himself up to be punted , the team is a rabble has been for a couple of seasons. Maguires stubbiness for what ever reason not to surround himself with some professional assistants to help with attacking and defensive structures is going to cost him his job.
The constant selection of individuals that just can not perform to NRL level is another weakness that is being exposed ..I am so over reading posters backing many of these players .,these players are just plodders that have been elevated to a level that they would not attain at any other club !
I DO blame the coach as he is the one responsible for this mess .. He selects these plodders ever week it is pathetic watching these pretenders .

It's really easy for our arm chair coaches to say 'drop thus guy, drop that guy' blood the young kids etc.

You can only drop so many players before moral hits the floor. Madge has dropped so many players now that it's almost superfluous. Simple truth is we don't have the cattle.

All the player debates the forum has are irrelevant really. Rank our players per position and u see the problem.
Take a fan fav in Laurie where do u rate him amongst fullbacks? he is easily in the bottom 6 atm could improve but no where near the top.
Take imo our best forward in Lucy and compare him to other 2nd rowers again def not in the top half.
Take our whipping boy Brooks def bottom few of the halves.

This isn't saying our young kids couldn't be great but they really need to break out on their own.

You can do this in EVERY position. It's funny because when we get linked to a genuine top ranked in a position some people think wjat we have is better.

Truthfully I would say we don't have a player in the top 10 for their position.

Now I love our boys etc but facts are facts.

Oh and our young fellas coming through have been super rocky and we struggle to compensate because we aren't consistent enough to allow them those mistakes.

Anyway my rant over

End result us madge can only make this team so good, punt him whatever but the pain won't stop for a while with or without madge imo.

Well, woke up this morning, got angry upon seeing the scoreline and was glad I didn't watch the game............saw a heap of bannings in the live game thread.

I have tickets for the game next week in Brissie............I'm not too sure I really want to go now.

I’m not convinced a new coach fixes things to be honest. It’s a half transformed club. Sacking him now does nothing. It will be 90% his team next year and that’s his used by date if he doesn’t get results. I’m frustrated too but booting another coach just adds to the narrative that the joint is a coaching graveyard.

Unless we somehow snagged Craig Bellamy, a coach change alone won't solve this. I think the coaching staff need to be looked at though, whoever coaches the attack is struggling, and likewise defence.

I’ve been calling for an assistant sacking for ages

Mate a loss is easier to take live at a game. Grab a chip on a stick and enjoy yourself with some good company

Average players, average side and average efforts. We will jag a win here and there but reality is our playing roster is just plain bad atm. No superstar player in the ranks no big name signings on the horizon no speedy outside backs. Our forwards are not good let's be honest. On a comparison basis as others have mentioned across the comp our top 17 don't rank well with other teams. It is what it is and Bellamy or Bennett would not do much better with this group. We need to make some serious inroads in the player market and hopefully bring up some decent kids through the ranks and it won't be a short term fix will take ages still.

My mate is a Panthers fan & has never seen an opposition club warm up for so long as the Tigers do. No wonder we look lethargic.

Congratulations @kafta I feel you may have found the key to Madge's current coaching methods.
While all the other teams are getting heaps of injuries, Madge gets our guys to warm up properly therefore avoiding injuries such as...
if our blokes dont run fast they wont get torn hamstrings.
If they dont tackle hard they wont get shoulder, or upper body injuries generally.
if they dont jump high for the ball they wont get knee or back injuries etc etc etc.
Then, by the time we get to the 10th last match just watch us go all the way to the semis, as all the other teams will be decimated by injury, we'll have a fully fit team.
I reckon Madge will be proven to be a genius :rolling_on_the_floor_laughing: :rolling_on_the_floor_laughing: :rolling_on_the_floor_laughing: :rolling_on_the_floor_laughing: :rolling_on_the_floor_laughing: :rolling_on_the_floor_laughing: :rolling_on_the_floor_laughing:

Wouldn't it be good if this scenario proved to be correct - in a previous post I recommended that we fixed up our DEFENCE all would be well, but of course we all know that will only partially fix our problems...I still can't figure out when we have so many chances to get tries when we are attacking the oppositions line why can't we get through the defence ! so maybe our long warm ups don't help that much afterall:anguished:

Seriously just give us the spoon

So that all the people that back Madge can finally see that he is not the answer

For a man who is supposedly all about defense & discipline, how come his players are so poor in both those areas

For a man who constantly speaks about belief in the players, how come it looks like they have none when they're on the field

He says the same things every presser, never taking accountability for poor defensive structure and predictable attacking gameplan

Believe me I fully understand that to sack him would only cause more disruption, but it's either we do it now or when we fail to make finals for the 11th year in a row. And I think the sooner it happens the sooner we can have a plan in place for the next off-season and potentially someone else who will help us make some key signings

When we signed Madge, I recall several people on here asking the question, why did Souths get rid of him?
In our third year with him as coach,we have gone backwards almost every game.
This style of play does not work for our squad.
We seem fit,we play till the end.i don’t doubt how hard we train.
I seriously question the effort put in from certain players.Do they not want to play for Madge?it honestly looks like we aren’t trying in defence at times.
To be blunt.....Brooks,Twal,Mbye and Tamou to some degree are adding absolutely nothing to our attack.
I’ve defended Brooks a few times, but last night he butchered multiple opportunities at crucial points. His style of play has become extremely predictable.
Madden must be bought in,he can’t be that much worse.I don’t care if his defence isn’t as good, our defence is already the worst in the comp.
Rant over 🌝 up the Tigers 🐅

While it may appear as though we’re not effective in attack, the numbers don’t support that. Our points tally is better than, or equal to 50% of the teams. We have an inexperienced roster and our experienced players are only those unwanted by other clubs, except maybe Dogs. The inexperience prevents us from maintaining momentum, which in turn demoralises other players. The way to fix this is for the playing group to have more teamwork type training, encourage group problem solving activities etc and develop teamwork in the true sense of the word. I swear I will switch off the next time bloke in the bar asks a player “who plays golf in the club” and they can’t mention a single name. The group dynamics isn’t working for Madge. When you look at most other clubs they have a majority of their roster invested in each other and the cause, so it’s easy to rescue a player who drops the ball (including figuratively) or gets off loaded.

Let’s hope he doesn’t go the quick fix pay overs for ordinary players to come an see us finish 9th. We are heading in the right direction in lower grades let’s back them to bring young talent through

To be fair to MBye he adds as much to our defence as he does to out attack.0+0 = 0

I’d love to know what position he actually wants to play.he looks lost for the most part,as do a lot of players in our squad.

It would be unfair for the assistant coaches to get the sack while Madge remains. Ultimately he’s the head coach - he should go too.

Maguire has to go today. The new coach should have the full amount of money to spend on the players he wants. He is likely to be able to attract players who may not be interested in playing under Maguire.

Thanks twentyforty for clarifying some of that stuff for me ...I think you may be on to something there. When Tim Sheens and some of the other coaches were with us, I think a lot more of that "bonding" stuff was happening, I understand we do a lot of community work but that's a bit singular - I think we do odd golf days...work all the time which I think may be happening here is simply not having the effect on the team that it should.
So time off the job may be a good thing in this case:blush:
