Moltzen Staying Or Going

I might be wrong, but to me it sounds like the Wests Tigers were being smart on this issue and keeping their cards close to their chest.
I think there is little doubt Moltzen was told he was free to negotiate with other clubs as at the time this happened he was down in confidence and not a shadow of himself at his best.
But if we all remember back correctly, the Wests Tigers made it clear at the time the Dragons announced that they had signed Moltzen that we had not agreed to any release.
Nothing much was said afterwards, I believe this was deliberate as we wanted to see what Moltzen produced over the back end of the season before deciding whether or not to release him.
Since Moltzen was right back to his best over the back end of the season, why would we and why should we release him?
Smart work from the Wests Tigers management in my opinion.

Earlier in the day somehow a figure of 400K was mentioned as compo from tigers to St George.

Give we seem to now "own" molten do we seek compensation from dragons and/or player swap….....

Get over yourself, no I don't feel strung along at all. Why is it incumbent on Humphreys to organise and follow up the release. **I hope he has gone to work every day since July, for 3 months, and wandered for a few moments when St George and/or Tauber would actually get back to him.**
Fact: we are competing with 15 other NRL clubs and many other countries, codes etc for the services of the best talent you can fit into 4.something million dollars

Get over what?
My opinion?
Its as valid as yours friend.
Did you wonder every day for the last three months when that would happen?
Or did you think , like I have thought and every fan I know, and every member and supporter on here…that he was gone.
I wonder how those at the functions, the open training, the GF presso...that said goodbye and wished him well with 100% sincerity...I wonder how they feel now knowing he & the club were keeping a secret.
You may not feel like you were, but you were basically s*** to...like it or not

Ink we can't be sure Moltzen knew about it until after he approached the club about staying If that is the case I don't think anyone can hold Tim responsible until we find out the true facts

We keep him.

You can believe whatever propaganda the club wants to dish out.

Moltzen is defiantly staying and the club is also working on a media story to justify keeping Lui.

Tigers slam Dragons over poached Moltzen

A furious war of words has erupted between Wests Tigers and St George Illawarra after the Dragons' announcement that Tim Moltzen will join the NRL premiers next season.

The Dragons revealed on Friday afternoon they had signed the talented utility, but angry Tigers chief executive Stephen Humphreys claims his club has not agreed to release Moltzen from the final year of his contract.

"The fact that the Dragons made the announcement this afternoon has come as a complete surprise to us," he said in a statement.

"We are extremely disappointed that they chose this course of action without any coordination or agreement with us.

"The action by the Dragons to make this announcement prematurely and without reference to us is arrogant and disrespectful to our club and to Tim Moltzen.****************

"The fact that they made it on the eve of our game tonight (against Parramatta) is just plain poor form."

Moltzen, 22, who has played at half-back, centre and full-back this season for the Tigers, is expected to fill the void created by Darius Boyd's decision to follow coach Wayne Bennett to Newcastle in 2012.

******that was Humphrey's press release after the signing where alot of people bagged him. From that info it just looks like the dragons got too excited and need to cool their jets a bit

Well if the court finds Lui not guilty then Lui might stay.

so why not put an end to the speculation there and then that he wasn't going anywhere?
why wait till the end of the yr to all of a sudden turn around and say 'oh he can't go anywhere, he still has a contract'?
why when Moltzen was interviewed about his move did he not say that he still had a contract with the tigers?
whichever way you look at it, its bad management on our part, and no amount of sugar coating will change that

I have gathered this from the thread and statements from Wests/Dragons so far:

1\. Moltzen always wanted to remain a Tiger.

2\. Due to cap reasons he was asked to look elsewhere, even though he was still signed with Tigers for next year.

3\. He found a position at the Dragons, they offered a future and by the look of things; better pay.

4\. The Tigers have incurred an issue with their number one #7, who is likely to get moved on (by this I mean the obvious if found guilty)

5\. They want him back!!!

This is how I see things from both sides:

1: The Dragons announced just before the Parra game that they had signed Moltzen.

2\. TV and papers have seen him heading to the Dragqueens next year.

3\. His manager stated mid yesterday he is definitely signed to the Dragons for next year.

The tigers side of things:

1\. He may not have actually been released from his contract for next year therefore he could never have officially been signed to the Dragpoofs and that is the only real legal standpoint they have except for compassionate grounds.

2\. If the Tigers are so desperate to get him back I feel they either need to compensate within reason or let him g. If he was "officially signed" that's that, he should honour what he has signed, if not he still has a year to go here and the Dragons should watch their negotiations more carefully in the future

GNR as I just previously said until now maybe it wasn't an issue Maybe until the last week or so Tim was going to the saints and then decided he wanted out and everything fell into place from there We really do not know

the way i see this, Humpty stated back in June that the tigers had not released him but he was probably happy to roll with it and let it happen, freeing up the salary cap. Now that Lui looks to leave and Dwyer unavailable and we can afford to keep him - why not fight for him as the deal was never professionaly completed by moltzens manager or the dragons. Im sure Moltz was happy to go and this weeks news is probably just as surprising to him as it is us - theres no doubt he would be even happy if he can stay where he is VERY happy.

I just hope that if he stays, Mitch still gets first shot at the no.1, with Moltz getting the 7.

either way - i love a good drama story!!!

It didn't take long for Bennett to leave St George before Petey Doust got himself back back into the media. Couldn't really help it I guess.

The thing that annoys me most about this is everything was fine when Moltzen was playing poorly. He hit some form at the end of the season and now his move to the Dragons is an issue. If in fact, Stephen Humphreys mentioned back when the deal was done between Moltzen and the dragons, why didn't he nip it in the butt then? Was the club waiting to see if Moltzen improved and used the situation as a safety cushion? As far as I'm concerned is that the club told Moltzen to look elsewhere, he did and signed a contract. Moltzen and the club should do the right thing now and honor that contract. The fact he's found form now is simply our bad luck. If the dragons want him, Moltzen needs to go. If the dragons and Tigers come to an amicable agreement then I'm happy for him to stay. I'll be disappointed if we keep Moltzen with the dragons left high and dry. Makes us look bad and it's simply not right.

**NRL star Tim Moltzen has signed contracts with both Wests Tigers and St George Illawarra Dragons\
\
Dean Ritchie The Daily Telegraph October 06, 2011 12:00AM**

http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/sport/nrl/nrl-star-tim-moltzen-has-signed-contracts-with-both-wests-tigers-and-st-george-illawarra-dragons/story-e6frexnr-1226159682162

SYDNEY powerhouses Wests Tigers and St George Illawarra are at war over Tim Moltzen because the star utility has signed official NRL contracts to play for both clubs next season.

The Tigers say Moltzen wasn't granted a mid-season release and should not have signed with the Dragons.

The NRL is preparing to step in to resolve the dispute through a contract appeals committee.

Moltzen still had a Tigers contract for next year when he signed a rich three-year deal with Saints in July.

At the time, it appeared he was unwanted by Tim Sheens, whose Tigers were facing enormous salary cap pressure.

But it seems Moltzen was never officially released and his Tigers contract for next year has been registered with the NRL.

St George Illawarra also have a contract signed by Moltzen and want him at pre-season training next month.

The fullback and centre was signed by Saints to cover for departing stars Darius Boyd and Mark Gasnier.

It is understood Moltzen's manager, Martin Tauber, met with Wests Tigers recruitment manager Warren McDonnell yesterday.

Tigers sources deny money suddenly became available for Moltzen due to the probable sacking of halfback Robert Lui, who yesterday was linked with Souths and North Queensland. The Tigers were last night trying to find out why Tauber took his client to the Dragons.

A friend of Moltzen said: "He doesn't want to go to the Dragons. He never did."

Superstar Benji Marshall - who lives with Moltzen in Sydney's northwest - was known to be filthy that his mate was being squeezed out of the Tigers.

One source close to the Tigers said: "The NRL will have to get everyone in a room and sort this out."

Wests Tigers chief executive Steve Humphreys was unavailable for comment yesterday but Dragons CEO Peter Doust issued this statement on the club's website last night: "
Tim Moltzen and his manager have signed a three-year deal with the Dragons. We have not had any conversations or received any other information from Tim or his manager that would suggest he would not be at the Dragons in 2012."

It is believed Saints won't meekly allow Moltzen to stay with the Tigers.

Tauber did not return calls last night but told AAP early yesterday: "I only got back from New York yesterday afternoon and I have no idea what it is all about.

"I've got a meeting with the Tigers today and that's when I will know exactly what is going on. He has definitely signed with the Dragons, but now there is talk of a release, so I am now off to find out more."

NRL officials are not commenting but will be hoping the two clubs can settle the drama.

St George Illawarra caused a stir when they issued a media statement announcing Moltzen's signing just hours before the Tigers' vital round-18 match against Parramatta on July 8.

At the time, Humphreys accused Saints of being arrogant and disrespectful, claiming the Dragons announced Moltzen's signing without the Tigers' knowledge. Doust claimed he was bemused by Humphreys' comments and signed Moltzen in "good faith".

If Lui is axed, Moltzen could play halfback for the Tigers next season.

Losing Moltzen would be a devastating blow for Saints, who will be without Boyd, Gasnier and coach Wayne Bennett.

The Dragons statement on July 8 read: "The St George Illawarra Dragons on Friday announced that Tim Moltzen has agreed to a three-year contract that will see him join the club from next season until at least the end of 2014.

"The Terrigal Sharks junior is currently contracted with Wests Tigers and made his NRL debut against the Dragons in Round 1 of the 2008 season.

"Moltzen is a utility player who can play as either a centre, fullback or in the halves and has made a career total of 52 NRL appearances to date. He will join the Dragons in November."

Some interesting points in here….

Also, has anyone seen Geoff Carr wield his wand in the past? Possibly Humpty was waiting until the IC has more control and ARL less influence to play this out?

I'd like to see Moltzen go, but If Humpty takes on the boys of secret handshakes and wins, he has earnt some good points with me!

THEY traded insults over the signature of Tim Moltzen in July, and now Wests Tigers and St George Illawarra are headed for another ugly showdown over the fullback.

The Tigers are standing firm in their belief that they can force Moltzen to stay with the club next year, and are willing to fight the Dragons to ensure that he does.

After verbally agreeing to release Moltzen in July, allowing him to take up a three-year contract with St George Illawarra, the Tigers now want the Country representative to see out his original contract with the club, which ends next year.

The club believes Moltzen can stay with the club as the Tigers have not signed an official release document for the 23-year-old, even though the player had signed a contract with the Dragons. '**'As far as we're concerned, Tim is under contract with us in 2012 until such time as he is provided a release,'' Tigers chief executive Stephen Humphreys said last night.**

''We've not at this stage done so. We do have a bit of an issue to resolve. We'll work with the Dragons club and his manager [Martin Tauber] to try and resolve it.''

Humphreys held discussions with his counterpart Peter Doust last night, and the pair have agreed to speak again today. ''We'll see what we can do,'' Humphreys said. ''It's a bit of a pickle, but these things happen from time to time.''I'd like to think we can resolve it one way or another. Nobody wants to be getting all legal and trying to push players towards doing things they don't want to do.''

While the Tigers were willing to let Moltzen go midway through the season, in the midst of recruiting international forward Adam Blair as well as re-signing several talented youngsters, his performances in the back half of the season have led to the club also having a rethink; his form atfullback was a catalyst in the Tigers' top-four finish to the regular season.

The Tigers have also had to deal with the loss of forward Simon Dwyer for next season due to injury, while doubts also surround the future of halfback Robert Lui, who has been suspended from club duties after being charged with assaulting his girlfriend. The club's salary cap position has changed, and could change further.

The Dragons, clearly, will fight any attempts to stop Moltzen honouring his contract with them, judging by a statement issued last night.

''Tim Moltzen and his manager have signed a three-year deal with the Dragons,'' Doust said. ''We have not had any conversations or received any other information from either Tim or his manager that would suggest he would not be at the Dragons in 2012.''

The drama to some extent echoes the wrangle over Steve Turner, who agreed to join Gold Coast on a three-year deal in 2007 only to remain with his then-club Melbourne.

There is no love lost between the Tigers and the Dragons over Moltzen, which will add to the intrigue in this case. Humphreys was furious when he believed Doust prematurely trumpeted the signing of Moltzen - before he had been released by the Tigers. Humphreys accused the Dragons of being ''arrogant and disrespectful'' to the Tigers and Moltzen.

The NRL's manager of football operations, Nathan McGuirk, said: ''We're staying completely out of it. The issue is between the two clubs and the player.''
