I stand by my thread from last week that suggested the Bulldogs game would be a watershed moment. I thought we played good, tough no nonsense football last night and that we competed for the full 80 minutes against a very good side. The Panthers had the edge in class but we could have won it with more luck, fairer refereeing and not having two players knocked out of the game. We are definitely heading in the right direction.

Need to play at this level for the next month or so and then we can assess how we are improving. We have a history of playing really well for a couple of weeks and then out of nowhere we drop our bundle. The game against the Titans is still too recent for the past 2 weeks to be any true sign to a new culture.

Fair enough but I was making a bold prediction.

Just how classy are Penrith ?

I would have thought that with the flow of penalties, all the field position and 2 of our forwards off for HIA, they should have put us away more convincingly than that.

I don't want to detract from our team's performance, but I didn't think Penrith threw a lot at us. It was an arm wrestle for the bulk of the match and they wore us down, with some assistance from the officials.

Mate we were fighting the majority of the game to stay in the match, our defence was amazing. When the game was there to be won, the panthers worked their way down the field to set up the field goal that they were never going to miss. At the same time we started giving away silly penalties to put their class players in a position to win the game. Say what you want about Cleary but 2 years in a row when the game was there to be won he has put us to the sword and handles the pressure 100 times better than our players do. That is class and that is what we are lacking.

I guess we are talking at cross purposes.

For me, a classy team, which has 55% of the ball and twice the penalties, doesn't need a field goal to put themselves ahead towards the end. My definition of a classy team is one that would be, under those circumstances, out of sight at the back end of the match.

Good interview with Reynolds.

Great words from a real fighter. Problem is it was his stupid fifth tackle pass that changed the game. This stuff needs to be eradicated from our play. We are getting tougher, stiffer defense and more fluid attack. The thing that does not seem to have changed is our ability to beat ourselves with dumb plays and unforced errors.

Depends on the game mate, we gave it to the Panthers last night. We were tough, physical and put them off their game, this happens to all teams at time. The class teams fight through that and when it is time for the game to be won, they control the game and dictate the outcome through their playmakers. That is what Penrith did last night.

We are operating on different definitions of "class".

What you call class, I call execution, or professionalism.

For me, class is, for example, Billy Slater chipping over the NSW backline, regathering and then chipping over the full back, regathering and scoring. That's class !

The Pennies, getting a string of penalties and positioning Roger Ramjet to drop a field goal from in front is execution.

Like I said, in my view, the Panthers didn't throw too much at us last night.

Feel the same @fibrodreaming.
Class to me is showing a certain level of sophistication and excellence in ability. Yet a player producing one effective play is not the exact same thing, but rather is considered clutch instead.

To be Fair, the game was all but Over before BJ's Stupid Act... They had the ball with a minute left up by 7

That actually makes it worse.

No one is saying it is good, but it didn't make or break the game for us... On the plus side we might see what Josh Hoffman has got also

It is Reece Hoffman not Josh

Agree with your post .
Class isn’t the word I’d have used ..
“Smarts” is what Penrith had .. plus the ref ?

I have seen in games this year were constant repeat sets being given has lead to players being placed in the sin bin.
Last night we had a few in a row yet Penrith were allowed to continually give them away and also stand side by side at marker without a penalty being given.
I hate to get on the referee bandwagon but he was poor last night.
The Panthers and Eels are now sides I can’t wait to play as I despise them.

I loved the passion shown last night and if not for a few silly errors we could have jagged this game.

What pleased me is that we had players out with injury plus the injuries sustained in the game, yet were in the game whilst the panthers were at full strength.

Keep it up Tigers

Its called progress.
We have been craving seeing our team fight, play harder and improve without having to make excuses.

Madge is starting to deliver. It’s a few games but very positive signs especially with the cattle he has.

We are in a fight regardless if we are players short. This is the 2nd game we have been at least 2 short during the span and still kept fighting.

I like what I’m seeing

We were in a position to beat both the Raiders and the bus driver's team and should have beaten the Titans. With a few less mistakes and a bit of luck we could have racked up 2 or 3 more wins. I don't think we're going all that badly all things considered.

Why so negative on JR? We're looking a 10 times better team since he's been starting. One pass doesn't change a game.

Momirovski on our right instead of BJ would have made a difference. We need to get rid of the non thinkers and the borderliners.

cant disagree more Joey is what we have needed for a decade. I dont condone what he did but the passion and aggression mean we arent walk overs anymore.

That type of ill discipline makes our club look like thugs. That is not the image I want for our club. Time for Joey to do a long stint on the sideline until he learns to control his emotions.

Paws I have to disagree, look at the history of our club. I can't remember the number of times I've come on here and people say that they just want the players to look like they care. Our mindset has made us minnows.

I'm not saying Joey's way leads to a premiership in the short term, but I think if you are going to come 9th every year then you have the wrong image as a club. Madge and even LL will be stuck into him and he should have a few weeks to reflect on that.

My thoughts are that twice he would have gone into touch if he was any other centre in our history. When you perennially come 9th you have to cop the downside to buy the change in ability.

we've actually always had dumb emotional players since our inception: Hopoate, Senter, Packer, Gibbs, Craig Field. I don't mind Leulia but what we need to change our culture isn't more conceding of boneheaded penalties, but having players who win games.

Haha yeah Gibbs was always good for a penalty.

Mate I like what he is bringing but that play was just plain stupid. Early 2nd half, in the lead, needing to get momentum going again. The smart play was a deep kick into the corner. Win the game in the 80th minute mentality. But he throws a crazy pass leading to a panic play. They score next set and never look back.
I think he’s a better option than Marshall and he’s my 6 next week. But it was a pivotal moment imo.

Yeah I’m with you. He’s our best 6 atm. As has been said many times throughout his career, I’d love him to get the madness out of his game. But that’s him hey?
