Never been so proud

We played tough but we still don’t have the roster to compete with the big teams hopefully our young guys keep improving and we sign some more talent

I agree, and that bearded touch judge bloke, no idea who he is (just another showpony official who has the fate of games in his corrupt hands), I think was responsible for advising the ref on some of those dodgy calls.

And, I remember him reffing us in a match last year where we were on the end of his own biased and bewildering calls.

It’s womAn Boss, not womEn - there was only one of them. Why do people do that all the time? Does my head in.

im actually starting to think we do i just think we are lacking depth

I think this game shows that we are a chance for the top 8, It proves we wont be a push over side and will come out firing against the big teams.

The first time in years I would consider us a genuine top 8 side. Voss said last night that the quality of that game was higher than some other games this weekend. We’re a middle of the road side. A class above the Dogs, Titans, Warriors, Dragons and Broncos. A class below Manly, Penrith and Canberra, and 2 classes below Parra, Roosters and Storm. We’re on the up.

We don’t have the roster to compete against 14... yet

Have to agree. I’ve never, in my life watched after the game after the loss but I’m still glued.

Cracking effort ( few brain snaps) but The best thing Ivan has ever given west’s is tonight’s loss. Mark my words.

We need to show video of Ivans kiss prior to our 2nd round clash.

cant disagree more Joey is what we have needed for a decade. I dont condone what he did but the passion and aggression mean we arent walk overs anymore.

That type of ill discipline makes our club look like thugs. That is not the image I want for our club. Time for Joey to do a long stint on the sideline until he learns to control his emotions.

Paws I have to disagree, look at the history of our club. I can't remember the number of times I've come on here and people say that they just want the players to look like they care. Our mindset has made us minnows.

I'm not saying Joey's way leads to a premiership in the short term, but I think if you are going to come 9th every year then you have the wrong image as a club. Madge and even LL will be stuck into him and he should have a few weeks to reflect on that.

My thoughts are that twice he would have gone into touch if he was any other centre in our history. When you perennially come 9th you have to cop the downside to buy the change in ability.

I strongly disagree. Stuart got rid of him because his stupidity costs in big games as it did tonight. The effort put in by our team is overshadowed by this buffoon. Our Captain failed the leadership test by not taking him off and moving Garner into the centres. I cannot forgive that poor leadership.

That's the first big game we have been competitive in since 2011, so whether you are right or wrong about BJ, I think you are wrong about the clubs trajectory of you think he is remotely the problem.

The press will concentrate on this negative tomorrow rather than the effort by most if the team. I loved the effort but would strongly support the club terminating his contract.

Someone on fox, possibly Cronk, noted that both teams gave notice tonight. BJ will cop and deserve a suspension, he won't learn from it going off history. He will never be the presence that drives the club to excellence internally but firing him is harsh.

We've young players learning off Maguire. Bringing this player into the Club is a mistake. We want cool heads under pressure, as we saw with the Storm. Passion is fine but it needs to be controlled. Bye should take blame for failure to remove him from the field.

If anybody can sort him out, I hope Madge can. Just imagine how damaging he could be if he got all the crap out of his game.

This game has shown to me how far our squad has come in a month. We had every chance to beat the panthers last night through tough play, and our discipline let us down.
Good wins against sharks and cowboys, tough losses against raiders and panthers, there's a lot to like about how this team is coming along.
If we had twal and musgrove playing, and better discipline from leilua then that's a game I think we win fairly comfortably.

It’s not the captain job to hook players. When that does happen I would expect a bottom 3 ladder position

We've got trainers, captain and coach can communicate.

Man you have some strange ideas at times.

lol his foot was on the line

His hand wasnt on the ball

That one was a 50/50 call but obviously like all those calls it went against us

That wasn't a 50/50 call.

Probably the most accurate statement I read about this game, Panthers were a class above and we hung in with passion and grit. When the game was in the balance we didn't have the class to ice the game.

We always have that one game....last year it was the Bulldogs/Sharks, Titans at campbelltown when hayne kicked that field goal.....list goes on

We are building and that’s good if we keep playing with that much effort and toughness we will go fine, just gotta show more class like you said and that comes in the form of quality experienced players

Just how classy are Penrith ?

I would have thought that with the flow of penalties, all the field position and 2 of our forwards off for HIA, they should have put us away more convincingly than that.

I don't want to detract from our team's performance, but I didn't think Penrith threw a lot at us. It was an arm wrestle for the bulk of the match and they wore us down, with some assistance from the officials.

Mate we were fighting the majority of the game to stay in the match, our defence was amazing. When the game was there to be won, the panthers worked their way down the field to set up the field goal that they were never going to miss. At the same time we started giving away silly penalties to put their class players in a position to win the game. Say what you want about Cleary but 2 years in a row when the game was there to be won he has put us to the sword and handles the pressure 100 times better than our players do. That is class and that is what we are lacking.

Last night was proof we've turned a corner.

A top four team came out with a game plan to bash and beat us. For years we would have crumbled and conceded 40.

But we gave back as good as we got and came close to winning.

Madge has done an amazing job in turning our culture around.

I stand by my thread from last week that suggested the Bulldogs game would be a watershed moment. I thought we played good, tough no nonsense football last night and that we competed for the full 80 minutes against a very good side. The Panthers had the edge in class but we could have won it with more luck, fairer refereeing and not having two players knocked out of the game. We are definitely heading in the right direction.
