Next 2 games are crucial for Jason Taylor

I think we find out a little bit about where we are heading under Taylor the next 2 weeks.

He has been here 36 games now and 18 months. It is about the sort of time that it becomes fair to judge his results and progress overall come in to sharp focus. 8-16 win/loss ratio last year was pretty poor season however his first season with a lot of upheaval. However 11th defensively was a minor acheivement.

This season I think most fair judges set the bar between 10-12 wins and be fighting for a Top 8 spot in the last 1-2 weeks of the season. After 2 weeks every thing looked fantastic, then after 8 weeks we looked like a club in meltdown again. We have managed to scramble 3 wins in the last month which has kep the season afloat. Now with Parra being deducted their points it is virtually a Top 9 in 2016.

Assuming the boys pull through Origin we will have a full strength side to tackle Round 12 against a under performing Easts. The have had the wood on us for years even when they were poor and we were good. Then its another mid table struggle against the Bunnies who will want to respond to the hiding we gave them a month ago. These for me are 2 must win matches if we want that 8th spot which is really up for grabs.

Its the first time we would be able to put all our supposed gun players alongside new signing Elijah Taylor who has added a new dimension to this team. We have won a couple in a row and the last game we should have gained a great deal of belief from. However we need to go 7-7, heading into our 2 byes. If were 5-9 its pretty much curtains and battling to match last years record of 8 wins.

I think we will learn a lot about how the players are responding to Taylor in the next 2 weeks. Like I said, we are at full strength and are playing 2 former glory teams playing some pretty average football. Our time to make a charge has to be now. There cant be excuses.

Both Easts and Souths are going to be desperate here. We need to match them with our intensity and there are 2 wins and a whole lot of momentum up for grabs.

we don't have the mental capacity Eddie - we are not there - it wont happen. Intensity maybe - smartness - no. We have heart but no brains. i.e 72nd minute Friday night. But i like your thinking.

Good post. Yes Taylor has had enough time with this team to become accountable for its performance. It still irks me that there is talk the young halves are not happy with him….since when do they have the right to have an opinion. Better leadership (no Farah) would have these guys focussing on their performances.

Good post. From my point of view, if we are still in the running for the top 8 with 2 weeks to go, the season is successful.

If we get knocked out round 21/22, that's just not good enough.

It seems almost every week it's Taylor under the microscope. These two are no different imo. But I take your point and reasoning.

that''s because employing Taylor was a mistake and they know it - but I don't dislike Taylor - I'm sure he is doing his best - just doesn't have it - YET - he's only 45 - a spring chicken - can't bag a guy for doing his best - true Aussie battler

Agree. First time in forever we will have a full strength team. Team and bench selection is very important to Taylor and how we perform.

They're our biggest bogey team but there's no excuses for us not to beat the Roosters. If we're going to challenge for the 8 we have to beat every team below us. Realistcally we arent good enough to challenge the Cowboys, Sharks, Broncs, Dogs etc if they are full strength so beating the lower teams is essential.

I know we are 5-7 but if we go 6-7 then with the top 8 essentially being a top9 this year we should be in the mix for a finals spot in the final 2 rounds. As sad as it is to say that would be a successful season to me.

challenge for the 8? - with our talent we should be challenging for a top 4 position - but you are right fergiefurr - it is sad - just wonder why you think that?

If the last 18 months are anything to go by we will get flogged by Easts this week. Couple weeks where we play decent footy and the mindset of this team just seems to be to relax. If we have turned a corner however, we should beat Easts comfortably then really make a game out of the Souths one. They have been pretty decent since their touch up against us

Its funny, we had two games basically taken away from us because of referring howlers, I am talking about the Knights and the Storm games. If we had won those games we would be right up there and this forum would be in meltdown talking about what a great season we are having, instead people are talking about boneing the coach and flicking players. Take out the horror Raiders and Dogs games and we have been very competitive without ever coming close to putting a 80 minute effort in.

Anyway I doubt we will make the eight but I think come the end of the season we will not be far off eighth place and pretty excited about what lays ahead

Agreed, still feels like we won that Melbourne game tbh….It was there for the taking

Newcastle game was more 50/50\. Even the Cronulla game I thought we were very competitive and probably shouldve won if we were a bit smarter. So basically those 2/3 "what if" games have us heavily entrenched in the top 8

It is a fine line between pleasure and pain as the saying goes.

Melbourne game the team performed really well under strength.

That 1st Newcastle game win or lose was a terrible performance, besides Simona we were at full strength from memory.

At the end of the day though, at the end of the season you usually get what you deserve. Close losses can be canclled out by close wins (not all the time)

10-11 wins would be a sign of progress

If we can't get over the bunnies sans the head Burgi, then the boys don't deserve a shot at the finals.

Unlike most, I am actually warming more towards JT as his tenure progresses and think he can take WT places. For mine, if he finally gets his way on the dummy half, the side will start to blossom and then move forward rapidly.

We still need to find a way to cancel out that -86 from the Raiders and Dogs games

If we finish on 28 points we will need a positive for and against to make the 8 in my opinion
