OK let's be honest now

We have played 3 great defensive games against 3 of the best attacking sides in the competition
To only have two tries against us shows how good our defence is
Not one team has scored a try against us in the 1st half
Brisbane didn't even manage to score a try
They won the game in the 88th minute from a wrong call
These close games will help us WHEN we make the finals
No panic stations
Our defence must be frustrating the other teams
I love a close win as it makes for a more exciting game
I was on the edge of my seat the whole game
It's unfortunate the way We lost but it might spur us on even more
Everyone in the NRL knows we mean business this year
We have plenty more wins coming
Would love to rub Moses nose in it next week

What luck was involved in Chee-Kam's TRY..?

I keep hearing when the top sides click in attack we are screwed..well there were 4 genuine TRY scoring opportunities for us and it wasn't lack of speed or X-Factor they were blown it was execution…when we click other teams better look out...

Brooks kicked it into legs and we got the bounce.

Kicked it into legs? It went between one of the defenders legs. It was a good kick stop complaining jesus

So 3 tries in 3 games doesn’t warrant complaining? Because I tell you, it’s going to be really hard to maintain our defence for 25 weeks. There’s bound to come a point a 10 points with 3 penalty goals won’t be enough.

No I don't think it warrants complaining. It warrants a look, as in what we might do differently especially when our more attacking-focused troops become available again. Could already have scored 3 more tries had we gotten the right bounce or pass on.

I'm also not in any way convinced that this defence cannot be maintained. Why not? Good defensive teams can stay good defensive teams all year, it's been the hallmark of Melbourne's glorious run and Brisbane's recent grit to stick out finals games.

I don't buy the argument that attack has to be X times better than it is right now to make up for some inexorable defensive failure as the rounds tally up. In fact I would argue that if you lack some talent in your roster - which honestly we do, that's why everyone had us pegged for bottom of the table - then you may as well focus on defence, because that's easier to coach into a pedestrian team than attacking brilliance.

We use to have plenty of attack strike power, we have had it for a decade, and it's gotten us mostly nowhere. It's totally the wrong mindset that started this thread, that we should be afraid of our lack of attack these 3 rounds because our defence might fail later in the season. No, in my opinion we should double-down on defence, we should put all our energy into not letting a single side score a single try in any match, to then reduce the number of points we need to score. 2018 is proving so far a year for penalty goals, and the way to win these matches is stifle the opposition, hold the football, build pressure and grind tries. That's the way for Tigers 2018 to defeat and continue to concern teams like Roosters and Melbourne who are brimming with recognised talent.

Lastly I'll note that last night was hardly the ideal conditions for attacking footy. Surely it's not lost on the negative nellies that Broncos failed to score a single try themselves, despite having guys like Boyd, Bird, Glenn, Milford or Jimmy Jet who would be certain picks in our side.

You just knew it was going to happen

Some WT fans would rather lose pretty than win ugly

I cant believe the negativity that some on here have. Can you imagine if someone told us that we’d be 2-1, and be letting in one try a game. We would all think that would be impossible. I think some on here have their own agenda and havent let go of the past.

I think complaining is a harsh word. Nothing wrong with talking about areas where we need to improve.

The second quote is a retraction, an acknowledgement that that word was harsh. But it’s still not something that should be ignored.

We don't ask a lot of questions in attack, however we have a foundation on which to build on.

For once we have:
Better short kicking game forcing more dropouts
Better offloading giving us easy metres
Better last tackle options
Better depth

Our attack at the moment looks like it's in slow motion, therefore teams are finding it easy to read, but It's a brand new team. It will take time to find our attacking strengths.

No doubt we need to score more points - it protects us from the bad luck that happens in football sometimes. Case in point last night, but I'm confident it will come over time.

Week 1 Reynolds out , Brooks and Marshall hadn't played a trial together

Week 2 Tui out

Week 3 Taylor out , the link from our forwards to our backs

No Liddle available at any stage

Arguably our best spine hasn't played together , course we are going to be clunky

Two tries killed by unlucky bounces v Brisbane

For me the concerning thing v Brisbane was how easily we got rolled through the guts in the last 15 minutes , but again you add Taylor to the mix and you'd hope that would solve that problem

I can't say this enough , but worry when our best 17 can't score points

How many tries have Parra scored in the last 200 minutes of football…?

Anyone..?

Defence 10/10
Attack 1/10

I don't see our full strength side changing anything in attack and I also don't think you can use that as an excuse. Its very rare a side goes into a game full strength and to be honest its unlikely we will at any stage have a full roster available. We don't have pace, we don't have any players who put any fear into the players defensively (Matulino and Packer get us going forward but arent line breakers).

Forget tries, we have hardly made a line break in 3 games.

Yes; there are no great attackers waiting to come back in, and we are likely to have a fair rate of injuries with the defence style that we have , and there’s no gaurantee rhat Tui and Reynolds will even make the team, and Liddle is an unknown quantity at the moment

Benjii wasn’t great this week , but I hate to think what Reynolds would havdone if he was there. Pressure games are not the place for his stupid antics.
I’d rather Benjii anytime

At least so far we are doing well with what we’ve got and until we unearth two or three players who have some speed we can’t expect any major improvement in attack.
I’m happy that we are doing better than usual with defence , and it shows that Ivan has done a great job with what he’s got. . But there’s nothing better than speed and it’s what we lack.

Ivan mentioned yesterday that it’s time to look at our attack now that our defence is in order. As the season progresses our best line up will sort itself out if injuries don’t cruel us and hopefully our attack will shine.Whilst we don’t have any super stars in the backline if the team plays smart and to a plan points will come.

I actually think that having Lolohea in the team gives the attack a big boost. He is speedy and threatening close to the line and there is no reason Thompson on the wing can't do returns.
I also think having Reynolds next to Brooks will help as Marshall has strayed from his new, solid type role.
I really haven't seen much from Liddle that excites me. Godinet is fine, he's quick and I think he's worth giving a real chance to iron out his game.

For the first time in years I am really not worried about either attack or defence.

Like others I'm just stoked at how they are playing - maybe even especially when they're playing poorly!

Honest. ☺️

If our defence stays rock solid and we get our attack sorted, 16 to 20 points a game will be enough to win most games

I agree. Just need to be patient is only R3\. I have belief in the team. Would rather this than be like the raiders score 20-30 points and keep losing. I am stoked with what I have seen to date. To be honest was a pleasant surprise. The belief in the team, in each other and in the club is awesome.

On a side note. Just wish all our supporters followed suit.

Honestly, I don't know that we should be discussing our team with ANY negativity.
We have been shyte for many years. We all are used to going to work on Monday and having to take it from our "mates" that support any other team.
We are used to fading in the last 5 mins of first half and conceding at least a try. We are used to dropping our bundle when we get 12 behind and turning that into 28 behind.
And now that IC has assembled a team that looks like it will make us proud, some of us are still nitpicking ?
Enjoy going to work and having your mates tell you how good the WT are going.
Enjoy having to play any team in the comp and not be scared any more.
Enjoy having the media talk about how great we are, instead of ( insert player indiscretion here ).
Enjoy that we are winning games against the biggest guns WITHOUT our regular spine.
Enjoy that we have a junior with huge potential to be one of the better halves in the game who will bring the creativity in attack.

Jesus H Christ on horseback !!!!! what did you expect IC to do ? turn us rabble into an unbeaten premiership team within a single off-season ?
He has taken massive steps in that direction. Be patient . . . and while you are being patient, enjoy all of the wins and committed effort against whoever turns up to play us.

We still have JRey, Lids, ET and Tui to come back. Benji is a defensive 5/8, he really doesn't offer much in attack. I think it's pretty clear he'll go back to the bench when JRey is fit. Hopefully they'll all be back this week.

Wow, ok so what happened?

Is this him playing to Bennett's and Cleary's expectations?

Cmon this is Marshall here. When has he been short of attacking options, or has he changed?

I have some (low level) experience in coaching in another football code. What the critics of the Tigers progess this season have to remember is that this is a TEAM game. Unfortuneatly, this means that you have to coach the poorer player in a particular skill to improve him before you can lift the team's overall skill level in that skill. It appears to me that Ivan set out to lift the defensive skills of the team this year and to leave the attack till later. Even he said yesterday it is almost time to work on the attack. I think we have to be patient.
