Papenhuyzen to Melbourne

Can remember similar threads when Seve & Funaki left for the Broncos .

Probably the same people wailing about it too …

Where are those 2 now? Playing QLD cup.

I think Ryan will probably go onto be a star at Melbourne and if he played FB for the tigers would do great. However we have Tedesco and Ryan isn't the build to play wing or centre imo. Given that he was always going to leave either next year or in a couple so we may as well not waste the cash and risk loosing someone in a position where we need them

He may turn out to be the second best no1 in the comp but the bottom line we already have the best. If he had six clubs after him his price would have been hefty and would it had been a good call to have a lot of money tied up in a understudy. Sure it would have been great to keep him but you have to look at what we have on our books and what are the priorities

You have absolutely no idea how much money was involved in the deal and yet you're prepared to label this a "very poor decision" by management. You're just a management hating muppet.

Bellamy is a highly successful coach with an eye for talent. If a large offer has been made he has a good reason for making it. Apparently our mob have difficulty understanding this, but when the club is overflowing with quality outside backs such as Rankin, Hunt and Kev N some may be more forgiving,

None of those players are signed for next year….

Ryan isn't a center - comparing him to Kev is pointless

Hunt/Rankin are on chump change, Suli is on more than them.... For a good fullback you will be paying well over 400k.

Given Teddy, Nofo and Suli - why pay 400k for someone as depth?

Are you advising that other clubs are prepared to offer him $400k?

You do realize by the time that Ryan makes it to grade Bellamy will be retired :brick:

Melbourne will be a completely different kettle of fish with no Smith ,Cronk and Slater

Outstanding Paws. What do you suggest? Sign him to a big deal as a backup and when we have no money to resign talented juniors already established, you can then kick the management to pieces because we've invested a fortune in depth?

You can't have your cake and eat it too.

We still have Haleta as backup for Tedesco as well as Daniel Roberts who played FB for u20 most of the last year.

Dont know about Roberts, but Heleta has shown nothing at NRL level, in fact he is not much of an improvement on Rankin and everyone knows what I think of him.

The primary back up is obviously Nofoaluma but we won't need him in 2017 touch wood bar SOO time

They would have had to pay somewhere in the vicinity of $400k, we paid that sort of money for Suli and he came out of nowhere.
Ryan has been on everyone's radar for the last 3 years.
I would much prefer to see that money spend re-signing our proven NRL stars the big 4 plus Nofa etc.

Suli and Papenhuyzen came out of the Balmain juniors and both are well known having been selected in various junior rep teams and squads.

CB we don't have depth in the outside backs. In fact, some of our NRL outside backs would not play NRL at other clubs.

You're missing the point. He'll want good money to stay, especially if he's being chased as an heir apparent to the greatest fullback the modern game has seen. Do you throw the sink at him, only to have no money to spend on others, and then you'll paste the club for mismanaging the cap.

CB, sometimes you have to pay out good money to retain the best juniors. That is the way of the NRL.

Slater is the best I have ever seen. Darius Boyd is an outstanding fullback and I rate him very highly. Tedesco is very good but not at their level.

If the only thing Paws can reach for to bash the club is not paying a potential back up fullback half a million dollars then they must be doing well.

He is currently the No 2 fullback in the game , what more do you want ??

Papenhuyzen has proven nothing , just another talented junior at this stage

No different from Shannon Gallant really

Where do you play him? You're going to pay a fortune to a kid to play on the wing?

FMD… You have no idea.
