Robbie Farah..Discussion Thread.....

There was also actually a suggestion that players were so much behind their captain that a protest was also considered.
There was also a suggestion that its not just Beau (oops me ) and robbie that have no faith in the coach but a lot of the younger players also.
so my questions today are :
- now that the moral of your younger players has been properly shook by the coach who had lost their respect approx week 7 into this season - how do you get them to perform.
- now that the coach has shown he does not care who you are within the group, the organsation and or the game, how do you get your young guns to fire up for him.
- everything your coach has said hes trying to achieve this year has failed spectacularly
They are on the verge of the wooden spoon
when they have been allowed to play freely - they ahve played well.
- How do you tell your young guns this is a fluke and the coach knows whats going on
- when past greats, family, other team mates, coaching staff and basically anyone who knows JT is privately telling the young cubs their is no future with JT as their coach - how do you address this as a club.
- when someone like Tedesco flipped to stay at tigers because of robbie is watching this unfold, what do you seriously think is going through his mind. (did anyone see his utter disdain for JT in the sheds during half time - he brushed him so obviously - that should have sent alarm bells ringing)
- whether you like him personally or not, robbie has a lot of support from the greater NRL community. all of whom are commenting on what a "baffling" decision this is.
!

What i heard today from an independent source is a very similar story. Hopefully Robbie gets his chance to tell his side of the story.

In all seriousness, I am genuinely curious . Put aside the what's going on with the young players for a moment.
If he was captain coach, would it ease the salary cap issue ?

not at all.
As a player, he is still registered and therefore his wage is a part of the cap and it has to be market / contract value.

if he were to be coach too, the club could potentially save money on his coaching wage but the coaches wage has zero impact or association to the salary cap.

Thanks for clearing that up.
It's a damn shame that all this has been aired in public.
It look like it's doing a lot of **damage to wests-tigers reputation**.
Which may take quite some time to recover from. :unamused:

If they are looking to be rid of him no matter the cost, don't you think that means the salary cap is not an issue?

What are the only other alternatives there Bobo? Have a think about it.

Anyway, although i feel the Souths rumour is the perfect fit for this debacle if i was JT i wouldn't be going to any after season piss-ups with the guys.

the salary cap is 100% NOT the issue.
realistically, mathematically, common sense wise it can not be if the club is prepared to pay 70%+ if he goes elsewhere or 100% of it if he plays reserves.

alternative - would be an attempt to fix this mess. quick smart !
my aim would be to re-group.
coach player players manager board and team.
get everyone on the same page and nut it out.
If its a case of negotiating a outcome like for eg. robbie stays for 2016 and goes OS in 2017, that could be a vialble and financially beneficial solution.
Everyone is brought in line.
the coach has X amt of games to prove himself also.
everyone knows where they stand and and a level of respect amongst everyone is sort.
obviously there would be a lot more involved but that would be a good starting point and it could send a very clear and loud message to the NRL community and more important the tigers fans - that the club is trying to work this out in a respectful and dignified manner !

I have heard some strong information, from a very close source, However I won't give away the exact specifics, as it narrows it down too fine.

However what I can tell you:
-Farah has blaintly disregarding the coaches instructions in certain games.
-instructions were sent out in a game, and he relayed to the trainer '[This word has been automatically removed] off im not doing that'.
- he was then asked to leave the field by the coach, which he declined.
- one of those games was the penrith game, where Lovett got slaughtered in the centres. And was related to the defensive structure of the team. The coach did attempt to fix the problem, however the captain didn't comply.

I never once heard JT bring this up publicly, he has kept everything behind closed doors.

But as you can see if you have watched Paul Kent or even Fatty last night. They have heard Similiar things.

It's not all about money, it's about the team, and if you have a player, who won't listen to you, and is undermining you, what would you do?

Phil I understand you not being allowed to elaborate, and I understand.

However can you say what type of instructions were disregarded by Farah?

Beau Ryan basically confirmed what your saying to be true when the same accusation was put forward by Fatty last night on the footy show.

A captain intentionally disobeying a coach's instructions is basically tantamount to treason in team sport. That's quite a serious charge, so I'm just curious as to what the instructions were.

JT Loos Job - Hope Not

We should not be into window dressing and I have high hopes the new Board will act decisively in the next couple of days to appoint a new coach. Get Toovey we know he is no nonsense and has demonstrated the ability to inspire the busted Eagles to perform.

Sorry guys here's the working link

One thing that is definitely being overstated - we are far from the only club that attempts to shift contracted players on. Manly alone have a well publicised list of players that they're trying to move, and there's always a number of players that move over the Christmas break as teams try to finalise their cap situations and rosters for the upcoming season.
Using this as an example for why players won't want to join us is a non-starter IMO - it happens at each and every club.

As much as JT worries me, I do like that we're backing him to the hilt. I just hope he knows what he's doing.

Wests Tigers treatment of Robbie Farah pans out as a PR nightmare
August 28, 2015 12:00am
James HooperThe Daily Telegraph

Jason Taylor: Robbie Farah can leve me egg-faced
Jason Taylor: Robbie Farah can leve me egg-faced
THE split between Robbie Farah and Wests Tigers has all the hallmarks of a bitter and protracted public relations disaster.

Worst-case-scenario, it could cost Jason Taylor his second coming as an NRL head coach. The Tigers initially tapped Farah’s agent Sam Ayoub on the shoulder three weeks ago, which in turn led to a meeting between the NSW Origin hooker and South Sydney coach Michael Maguire.

All sworn to secrecy, the Rabbitohs listened intently before Maguire realised signing Farah would be unfair on young gun hooker Cameron McInnes

Despite opening talks with Souths, Ayoub refrained from telling Farah he was unwanted at the Tigers.

The long-time agent’s game plan was to land a new NRL club and announce the news all in one swoop, avoiding the PR nightmare Farah and the Tigers are now set to endure.

The trouble between the Tigers and Farah doesn’t look like it will fade away.
With South Sydney out of the equation, Farah is preparing to dig his heels in and fight for his position at the Tigers next season. The prospect of Farah being paid $1 million to train in the part-time squad and play NSW Cup threatens to turn toxic on so many levels.

What’s worse, NSW coach Laurie Daley has personally telephoned the Blues no.9 and told him he’s prepared to pick him for State of Origin from the NSW Cup.

While the Wests Tigers board are currently completely behind Taylor, what happens if the club finishes with the wooden spoon this year and in a similar position again next year? How long does JT get to try and fix the mess? He’s on a three-year contract, but is that long enough?

In many ways, Taylor has bet his coaching career on this decision. While it worked for Ivan Cleary and Phil Gould at Penrith when they showed Luke Lewis, Michael Jennings and Michael Gordon the door in 2012, there’s no guarantee the Tigers call will deliver a similar silver lining.

JT has made a brave decision based on what he believes is in the best interests of gaining complete control of a club widely regarded as one of the NRL’s biggest basket cases. But if the Tigers fail to move Farah on, it could descend into a dangerous game of Russian roulette.

If it works, it could be the making of Taylor as an NRL coach. If it fails, it could be the end of him.

Remember what happened when Mick Potter tried to take on Benji Marshall …

Wouldn't that be a hell of a laugh, if they did get Toovey , and then he told them that he wanted to keep both Farah and Lawrence, as we have no experience in the team and no chance of getting any.
That'd be Gold

Similar story in the herald that the pressure is all on JT now - he's got his team, effectively had a mulligan year and now needs to deliver results moving forward.

http://www.smh.com.au/rugby-league/wests-tigers/wests-tigers-coach-jason-taylor-will-live-or-die-by-his-call-on-robbie-farah-20150827-gj99a7.html

After making arguably the toughest call in the Wests Tigers history by sending their skipper Robbie Farah packing, coach Jason Taylor now has the job of proving to the board that supported him that he's made the right decision.
Sources on the Wests Tigers board scuttled a rumour that suggested Taylor was motivated to move Farah on after receiving an ultimatum that he had until the seventh round next season to save his job. However, now he's made the call he must ensure it works.
"It's definitely Jason stamping his authority that the team is his, now he has to make it work," said a boardroom source. "It should be easy to assume it's not salary cap and it has to do with JT wanting his team, his roster and his way . . . Robbie doesn't fit into JT's plans, clearly.
"It wasn't an easy call to make but now [Taylor] has made it results on the field will say if it's the right decision or not. That's the only way we will know if it was right."
The suggestion Taylor was walking a tightrope was shot down but the pressure on him to do well without the NSW State of Origin hooker's presence next season was apparent.
"He has a three-year contract and I can tell you that [seven round deadline] hasn't even been mentioned," said the source. "There's no time . . . he has a three-year deal. He has the full support of the board . . . and not just about Robbie.
"The board is aware of other changes [that aren't as dramatic as the Farah call] and he has to do that. He's the boss of that side of the business. Look, at the end of the day I think the club and Robbie have been honest with their feelings."
A source confirmed the discussions concerning Farah had been ongoing for "some time" and was definitely not thrown on him at the last minute. The source could not say when Farah's management informed him about the decision.
The Wests Tigers will budget a large chunk of their salary cap for Farah to play against them next season because Taylor wants his young halves Luke Brooks and Mitchell Moses to have a free rein during the game. Like Taylor, the call means they too will have to perform.
News of Farah's forced departure and the suggestion he would play reserve grade if he remained outraged former Wests Tigers players and some supporters. Farah, who played in the club's famous 2005 grand final victory, will join Pat Richards and Keith Galloway in leaving the club.

I can understand the reasoning behind the source speaking to the media but I just hope it's not a sign of things to come the one major positive of the new board was the lack of leaks leaving the club hopefully we don't go back to the days when we had more leaks than the titanic.

From the point of future team morale I am more concerned whether Robbie will still be lingering on with Wests Tigers at the start of the 2016 season.

I would think that if the WT's were willing to pay the majority of Robbie's contract money now, then they will pay him out in the preseason to let him walk away if he was causing headaches.
