Save Our Sides Protest Rally - SUN 05FEB11

So , can some one correct me if I'm wrong, next year:

-Balmaim Tigers and Wests magpies NSW cup sides will both cease to exist.

-They will both be replaced by 1 Wests Tigers NSW Cup team

- Both clubs will continue to field junior rep teams up to SG ball ,

- Wests tigers NSW Cup , NYC and NRL teams , will be fed by both junior districts .

As i life long magpies supporter i can say , it Sounds like a much more efficient and practical organizational structure . It will be very similar to St George Illawarra's set up , which has produced an incredible amount of NRL and rep standard players over last few years . I think a lot of NRL clubs will be jealous .

Can't wait to get down to Campbelltown stadium and hopefully watch all 3 grades play on the same day .

It is practical and more efficient and its OK with me. 3 Grades playing on the same day is tremendous.
The only difference is:
St. George are based in the Illawarra and pride themselves on bringing through their juniors.
Wests Tigers are based in the inner city and pay for imported players they do not use the juniors of Campbelltown. And that's just the way it is. I would like it to be different but its not !
We all would like to think its different but its not.

The Kids of Campbelltown make a choice before signing with Wests Tigers am I prepared to travel and play for an inner city club? Do I want to work close to home or am I prepared to travel for my $3,000 a year.
In the long run it looks like most don't survive the travel or like Chris Lawrence move out of the area.

Are said kids "Good Enough" to make it in the first place B&W
Chris Lawrence is one in a million….
I think if local kids are good enough, And aren't prepared to do the hard yards...
Then they don't want it enough, If they don't want it enough.... Then why would we want them.
Take young Matty G for example, He's MILES away from his family, Has been since he was young...
Now he's just out of Juniors still young enough to play 20's and will probably spend most of the year
in 1sts.
If he can do it, About 8 hrs from home.... Surely the Kids from the West can do it 1hr from home??

I understand that, just like no kid ultimately wants to play for the Windsor Wolves or Wentworthville.

So are you saying kids arn't inteligent enough to understand the pathway they can take to get the NRL?
Geez that is a touch harsh mate

They'd be way more excited if they had a Wests Tigers team in the NSW Cup to make it clearer!

Doubt it.
20's is the goal….from there its NRL or a step down to NSW Cup/Premier league

You really believe all that? You seriously think a kid signing with an NRL team and fulfilling his dream is going to say no because he has to travel to Concord???? Fair dinkum… :unamused:
If you have to think about whether you can be bothered to make that trip you should probably forget NRL and sign for East Campbelltown there and then.

I never thought I'd see the day when St George-Illawarra is given as a good example of a JV...

Finally a club will be BORN the Weststigers all 3 grades back on game day can't wait….. When the curtain fell on the Magpies and the last game was done and dusted my Wife and myself got back in the car and drove back to Lidcombe . All the years of travelling down there and hearing all the vibe over the years about being a growth area blah blah we both just shock our heads and wondered what went wrong .Well you guys can have your day in the sun with your placards ect but really you had your day and BLEW it big time .Long live the Mighty Magpies we will never forget ! Time for the new and improved version .

So I'm yet to get Galahs to answer this….

Is rugby league in the area not the jurisdiction and responsibility of th WSDRLFC? What pro-active measures have they taken to improve the state of junior leagues in the area?

No, I will not be attending the rally.

Chris, We want to see action, we no longer accept lip service.

What promises has Humphreys made to the Junior leagues and not delivered on?

I wonder if by some miracle both Wests and Balmain make it through to the GF in NSW cup in 2012 will they change their mind ????

Just seen this on 10 news. I think this may be a little bigger then some of you care to admit. To quote Tim Webster, 'I reckon they'll get a few there too'

If they want to rally that's fine but let's get the real reason out why the rally is happening and not using the junior leagues to draw people into their plight.

In the long run it looks like most don't survive the travel or like Chris Lawrence move out of the area.

The pathway to NRL for a kid from the Macarthur is clear, Wests HM & SG Ball, for those good enough WT for NYC, NYC is an elite competion and most of the comp travel for the opportunity. It is from NYC that players are drafted into the NRL, players from in the squad play NSW cup.

NSW Cup is not a pathway to first grade. Very rarely to players perform strongly in NSW cup and win an NRL contract (im sure there is examples but they are rare)

NYC is not professional football, in fact the NRL insist they have to work or study to play. $3000 they are provided covers expenses of travel etc.

The training and so forth many across the country do for fun.

Elite football is not about participation it is about commercial viability.

NSW Cup is for the most par participation sport, it runs at loss and is funded by non financially motivated benefactors.

Participation football for kids in the McCarthur can be achieved far more cheaply than NSW cup.

This would be an ideal time for Wests Tigers to set up a 4 year Scholarship program for kids from Campbelltown. Firstly arranging accomodation for them close to Concord and then set up Apprenticeships/Traineeships and University courses for them.

I know they have to move away from their families but this gives them the opportunity to concentrate on Footy with F/A travel time and at the very worst they have a qualification to head home with if they haven't made the big time in the NRL.

No I think all the Campbelltown/Group 6 kids just love traveling to Concord in peak hour traffic rather than a nice country drive to Penrith or Wollongong or going next door to Canterbury.

Yes St. George-Illawarra are pretty stupid Imagine thinking you could win a comp with a bunch of locals.
Cooper, Creagh, Green, Hornby, Hunt, Morris, Young, Merrin, Prior, Rein. Nah never going to happen !

From what i have heard, the whole thing of NYC players having to either study or work is an exaggeration on the NRL's part

Hey Galahs,
Have you contacted any of the Old Maggies' / Juniors to join the plight?
Like the McGuinness Boys, Mighty Mouse is back down south, Gray Viane, Cherry, Robbie Mears and the like? It wouldn't hurt to try rally up a few high profile former Clubmen for the cause!!
