From the sounds of it we’ve picked up the two best young forwards in NSW and possibly the country. Stefano and Blore are gonna be our future hopefully. We’ve got a really good amount of young guys ready for the future
Haha the write up of every young player we sign make them out like they are going to be a huge star, but I'm pleased with the signing.
To be fair, all the young players we’ve signed this year are all junior origin reps etc. Stefano clearly the highest rated prospect we’ve signed but this kid is probably #2, people who know footy rate him extremely highly.
The others seems good but we will have to see how we will go in first grade not every young rep turns Out to be a star
This bloke has the temperament to do so. Give him an offseason and watch him go with the likes of Stefano next year. I'm very impressed with how Madge is building our squad. We're going to have quite the forward pack in a season or two.
In theory it sounds good but in sad reality if one of them takes the game by storm in the next 1 or 2 seasons they will miraculously end up at the Roosters or a club who prefers to offer "incentives" outside their salary.
Contracts etc these days are such a laughable disgrace that signings are usually met with trepidation that once the player shows promise they are gone just as quick. That is probably the biggest gripe with our game nowadays IMO.
I get your sentiment, but honestly I don't think it happens as often as you are suggesting. Most top-tier footballers stay with their incumbent clubs, and actually it's the part players that get set aside when that happens, e.g. your Ryan Hoffmans when Storm were trying to protect their Top 3.
I'm trying to think legitimately, all-time, how many Wests Tigers players did we try hard to keep but were beaten by a glamour club? Prince went to Titans, they didn't even have a pedigree except for an open chequebook. Marty Taupau we didn't even counter-offer once Manly offered him a massive salary.
It's basically Tedesco and arguably Woods, though plenty of folks were happy to see Woods go at the kind of $$$ we were hearing.
Not that Roosters don't shop very successfully - they do - but they don't sign up every talented player from around the game, just the odd specific ones they are after. We've only suffered that once and Souths have been far worse off from Roosters poaching. Broncos and Storm being two other heavyweight sides, hardly ever (approaching never) signed an ex-Tigers player of note?
