No I'm not saying we should fear signing someone that's for sure.
It's just the "we will have an awesome forward pack for the next few years" talk that is met with huge scepticism after seeing superstar upon superstar pillaged from clubs by the chosen few.
Hopefully we can become a go-to club but IMO it is more than facilities that breed success. Our club somehow needs to shed the inept performances that see us concede cricket-scores to ordinary teams....the for and against battering we take normally equates to 1 or 2 extra wins we need per season to qualify for the business end of the year.

From the sounds of it we’ve picked up the two best young forwards in NSW and possibly the country. Stefano and Blore are gonna be our future hopefully. We’ve got a really good amount of young guys ready for the future

Haha the write up of every young player we sign make them out like they are going to be a huge star, but I'm pleased with the signing.

To be fair, all the young players we’ve signed this year are all junior origin reps etc. Stefano clearly the highest rated prospect we’ve signed but this kid is probably #2, people who know footy rate him extremely highly.

The others seems good but we will have to see how we will go in first grade not every young rep turns Out to be a star

This bloke has the temperament to do so. Give him an offseason and watch him go with the likes of Stefano next year. I'm very impressed with how Madge is building our squad. We're going to have quite the forward pack in a season or two.

In theory it sounds good but in sad reality if one of them takes the game by storm in the next 1 or 2 seasons they will miraculously end up at the Roosters or a club who prefers to offer "incentives" outside their salary.
Contracts etc these days are such a laughable disgrace that signings are usually met with trepidation that once the player shows promise they are gone just as quick. That is probably the biggest gripe with our game nowadays IMO.

Gotta try not to think like that. With the Centre Of Excellence coming and some great up and coming talent we've got a real opportunity in the next 2-3 years.

Spot on mate. Just gotta keep building the club. In 2019 we re-signed all the best young talent at our club. Now we’ve signed a bunch of new young talent too. We won’t be able to keep them all but it’s the best way to build a club far better than signing old guys on massive coin

Greedy bastards....

This came out of nowhere. Came back to the forum just to comment on this. Mm....I'm slightly excited by the prospects of our forward pack in the coming years. Mikaele, Stefano, Blore, Luciano and Twal are all currently U23. Add in Musgrove and Aloiai (24) and we have an exciting pack. Please let this be the start of a new era.

I get your sentiment, but honestly I don't think it happens as often as you are suggesting. Most top-tier footballers stay with their incumbent clubs, and actually it's the part players that get set aside when that happens, e.g. your Ryan Hoffmans when Storm were trying to protect their Top 3.

I'm trying to think legitimately, all-time, how many Wests Tigers players did we try hard to keep but were beaten by a glamour club? Prince went to Titans, they didn't even have a pedigree except for an open chequebook. Marty Taupau we didn't even counter-offer once Manly offered him a massive salary.

It's basically Tedesco and arguably Woods, though plenty of folks were happy to see Woods go at the kind of $$$ we were hearing.

Not that Roosters don't shop very successfully - they do - but they don't sign up every talented player from around the game, just the odd specific ones they are after. We've only suffered that once and Souths have been far worse off from Roosters poaching. Broncos and Storm being two other heavyweight sides, hardly ever (approaching never) signed an ex-Tigers player of note?

Shaun has always shown potential. He was brought into full time training 2 summers ago. Serious injury restricted progress. Panthers have a lot of depth in every position so not a big surprise a player like Shaun has looked elsewhere. He is NRL potential, but he will need time.

Not saying the high-flying teams target WT. To answer your question quickly: WT hasn't lost players apart from Tedesco, Lafranchi and maybe 1 or 2 others. Clubs in general get raided by the glamour clubs, definitely not only ours because we don't produce many stars .

Never heard of him, but was psyched at first cos it sounded like a coup. But then I realised our roster needs need to be at 30 by June so now see this as a necessity signing. Could still work out to be a gem, but I’d by lying if my enthusiasm wasn’t dulled a tad.

To be fair they could easily just promote one of the development players or reserve grade guys to fill that last spot in the top 30. they snatched this kid up as quick as they could because they wanted him more than anything I feel.

We could have easily promoted a dev player at the deadline if we wanted to gnr. We targeted him, as he's been viewed as a future rep player for years.
Panthers saying they released as another club offered him a long term deal. We signed him on an 18 month contract...
They offered him a longer deal and on decent money, he turned them down for us. Another Utoikamanu situation in a way. He didn't feel wanted and disagreed with some things the panthers did. Quite possibly an option on a third year, either club or player option.

I also like that Madge is signing leaders. Not egotistical assholes. Good, honest hard working players with the right attitude. That's how you build a club and a culture. Having players with the same values.
I see reckon Blore is a bigger version of ET that runs more like Luciano/Garner. A player with heart and courage, that defends hard but also runs hard. He'll need time to build up strength and match fitness after his injury but will be pushing for a bench spot and then lock soon enough.

I thought that i read somewhere that the NRL squad has been increased to 31 players.
Don't quote me on that.

At least he is a decent depth player much better value than McQueen

I didn’t think that June 30 rule applied this season now.
