Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

The interesting thing is undoubtedly Roosters have rorted the system for years and bought the best players available and fitted them under the cap...and still cant make the gf
Have bought nothing this year unless u count Chad Townsend(!!)...and have lost a lot
I reckon Politis has hung the coach out to dry..for the talent hes had as his disposal hes a serial under achiever
One bad year this year and Robbo will be goooone..part of Politis' grand plan
You dont become a billionaire without a plan..but who will be his replacement??
On average he makes and wins a GF every 4 years.
Its funny that someone from our supporter base is attacking another coach for being an under achiever.
He wont be gone after a bad year this year. They are in a re-build. Theyll also probably finish higher than we will.

That's a very interesting point. You have no place here!

Totally agree Tucker, only takes one desperate club willing to take a risk on potential for them to start throwing money at him. We did it for years, paying overs for potential. We were desperate for success and thought it was our way out of mediocrity at the time.
just thinking closest I can think of is knights took a great gamble on ponga
Knights had to pay massive overs to keep him from leaving on his first contract renewal and there is a few supporters that even now don’t think he’s value

No one is" attacking" anybody..no one: "hates"anybody..blah blah..its just an hypotheses ..aka a wild ass guess..putting the facts together, which I find unusual for a well managed team like Roosters
.Something isnt adding up.
and Its nothing to do with WTs ...whom we expect disappointment from!
Facts are Robbo has achieved nothing of significancegiven his roster for the past half a decade,...with an almost SOO roster at his disposal during most of that period.
If I was Politis,Id be at best disappointed...at worst looking for a replacement for a recent under achiever
I suspect thats what hes up to
Thats my sole point

I'm not hyping him

Gould is.

The league world is - Andrew Johns, Cam Smith, Billy slater.

If Dylan Brown can get a ten year $12M offer -- Galvin will get way more.

In the trial last week Galvin was a constant threat. And he's only 19.

Someone will bank on him to be a franchise player - and they'll pay stupid money to grab him.
Brown will be a 6 for the full 10 years barring injury. I can't see Galvin being a 6 for any more than another 4 years max. Any one offering a 10 yr deal at 12 mil or more for Galvin is taking a huge risk on those final 6 years as he transitions to lock/backrow.

Dennisspicer1 has hit the nail on the head. Totally correct. When Tedesco was on the market Tigers offered him over $1.1m per season. Teddy told his teammates that the Roosters $ offer blew the Tigers out of the water. But then the Roosters put out their usual bullcrap that Teddy signed for less money to play with a better team. Then they register his contract at way under a million but Teddy gets paid his $1.2m And also as you rightly say when players leave the Rorters they suddenly claim it creates huge space in their cap - but wait uncle Nick? Didn’t you say you were paying him low $ when you signed him? Anyone who believes the tripe put out by the Rorters about what they pay players is a dope. Read Malcolm Knox’s many articles about how the Rorters cheat the salary cap - but of course the NRL never ever investigates them. NRL Integrity Unit? Ha ha ha ha ha!!!

that’s not my recollection about Tedesco…. But anyway it’s irrelevant to what happens with Galvin …let’s see what he does …and if someone offers him more money than the Tigers do I will be very surprised…. Doesn’t mean he is going to stay though …

I think you are overlooking the point that I try to make,
That point being, he went to the Rorters and got more than we offered, it just was not declared by the Roosters.

Have people not noticed how many players roosters get for less than other clubs offer, but then a few years later when East are letting them go they state Roosters are letting a player leave the club, that will free up 1ml of our cap money, but his original contract they signed him on we were told was only $600.000 a season.

any specific examples Spicey ?

If they pay that much money, they’ll lose their job.
I don’t know why people compare Galvin to Brown…even suggesting Lachy will command more.
We went over this a few weeks ago. Brown has largely earnt his payday. Galvin has not in any way shape or form done so yet.
Black White and Gold goggles

And. Yeah I've always laughed at people bringing up who a player supported as a kid when talk of a new club is about

Bellamy, decides to have one last year in Sydney at Roosters.... lol

Teddy the mofo has about $500k worth of false teeth in mouth too. I wonder if that was a 3rd party deal

I think Luai will be good for us, but I agree with you in that his highlight reel is a little underwhelming compared to the other big name halves. Particularly when he has played on his own.

Admittedly I don't watch him super closely, but I haven't seen him make a lot of clean line breaks like many of the other good halves do.

He is quite good at stripping numbers on an edge, and it will be nice to have 2 halves that have effective short kicking games, but not sure how much of a difference it will make to us when all is said and done.

Tbh I'm reserving all judgement until round 10.
I thought last year his straight running and line breaks were better when playing halfback. Which is a good sign. Such as vs Warriors in magic round and vs sharks. When he was 5/8 he'd crab across field a lot. He's got to run and step close to the line. It's one of his biggest strengths over his whole NRL career, which he doesn't do enough.

I know good mates of his and they have said Teddy told them directly he will never pay for anything ever again. Now I have no clue what that means exactly. Maybe he takes receipts in every week and gets reinbursed in cash, maybe it's more elaborate, I have no clue. But I'm confident his contract value at the NRL doesn't quite match what he is bringing in each week.

I also know an ex Roosters player dad who's son was an average first grader. Said he received 100k cash every year on top of his contract. That's for an average player, so imagine the top players.
Never pay for anything ever again sounds plausible (as a general statement, not literally). As an example, I could see various restauranters' or bar owners telling the captain of their favourite team that their money isn't needed there. I've heard firsthand recounts of this happening with Broncos players in Brisbane. I've seen it happen once with a Tigers player at a kebab shop. A long time ago now but i've even heard of clubs providing thounsands of dollars of 'product' for mad mondays if certain performance targets were met.
I also don't doubt that there is plenty of dodgy forms of payment happening, even if i do doubt there are many actual cash payments happening (anymore). I'd suggest more like appearance fees arranged and funded by people with links to the club. And i think most the competition would be in some way guilty of breaching cap rules in some such way.
I certainly doubt that there is this long list of Roosters players getting 100s of thousands if not millions in cash. It only takes one disgruntled bloke who isn't getting what he thinks he is worth or not receiving payments anymore to either extort for more or expose it all. It seems a pretty unlikely way to do business.
