Agree with this. Would have preferred Marshall-king to fill this utility/hooker spot and give him the chance to train with his bro. Obviously Ivan didn’t think he had what we need.

Seriously if we were injury ravaged and the 3rd or 4th hooker or half went down you would go for a 22 yr old who has played 1 FG game and other then that never made it out of reserve grade over a 29 yr old with 60+ games of first grade across Australia and NZ across halves and hooker and who has made his debut under our coach who clearly knows and values him and who has also played previously at hooker with our 2 starting props. Well I am glad Ivan is coach not you guys because thats crazy

And also played in two World Cups.

Wow! Should we start a list of third grade players that’s have played in two world cups? I think rod Griffins played 3.

He is a little bit better than a third grade player Mate!

He was one of the better players in the 2013 World Cup in the UK. Didn't go too bad this time either for the limited time he got. I think he is an astute cheapish buy (who knows how little) as a utility for the lower grades. Chalk and cheese - Griffin has never played an NRL game, don't care if he played in 10 World Cups - showed promise for the jets, delivered us nothing - let the Bulldogs regret signing him.

The way some people on here are carrying on the club has signed him for a million plus per season.

I don’t think people are so worried about the ability of our lastest signing, and understand it was a depth signing. I think what concerns many is, we expected a player that was a real chance of being a top 13 player, and although we have recruited some very good players, a few people..me included think we are still light on for class and thought no29 may have addressed that to some extent. Although a few posts from a couple guys with good info certainly made it clear that no29 was only ever going to be a depth signing.

Now all our hopes can be directed to no30!!

my thoughts exactly. Obviously Godinet is more experienced than Marshall King but is he any better?
It's a depth signing, so both are most likely to be playing Reserve grade. However if we do strike multiple injuries is and are in need of a half would would you prefer out of Pita Godinet and Marshall King?

It could have came down to the length of the contract. Maybe Marshall King wanted a longer deal and Pita Godine is happy for a short term one.

It was stated earlier in the thread - we signed Marshall King. He backflipped for a better offer. Because of this we sign Godinet.

Marshall king was always ISP contract. Not first grade.

What's this ISP contact / First Grade contract? Isn't it if you have a contract and if its in the top 30 salaries then it is counted in the salary cap .. ie you are top 30 players.. I dont think there's such a thing as "a First Grade contract" or an "ISP Contract"

It's changed a bit next year there a top 30 players who all contracted for nrl. I think 30 players is an increase to numbers in top squad.

So I think the trend now is people contracted as development reserve grade or 20 are less likely to see nrl time .

Give the guy a break could make people on here, eat humble pie. And i’m with you Russell not just Griffin what about the other Ipswich bloke McConnahie didn’t he rep Scotland. Another Taylor dud.

Will be interesting to see how much heart Brooks has with quite a number of eligible halves/playmakers signed on for next year.
I think he needs to come out like he’s playing finals every week to remain in the 7 jersey.
Hopefully that’s the message Cleary is sending by signing another spine option.

Any thoughts on Quade Cooper, he has been told by Reds new coach that he is not part of their plans next season.
He can be A Rock or a Diamond type player.

You should have posted this in the other thread where someone was looking for jokes for his party on the weekend.
Seriously though, no he is beyond useless.

A bloke who broke into his mate's apartment to nick stuff isn't the sort of individual we want at our club. Simona would of gotten on well with him back in the day though.

Look if Godinet isn't better than any of fringe players we let go its an issue

Personally I reckon he isn't too bad a signing

X 2\. He'll be better than Drinkwater and JLJ. If he does play any first grade at all.

Godinet does seem incredibly small for a hooker, and he'd be our 6th choice half for first grade so it seems an incredibly odd signing. Guys played 60 professional games, mostly in the UK, over the past 10 years. If he was any good he'd have played 150-200 games by now.

If he was on a nsw cup contract i'd be very happy, taking up a spot in our 30 when we lack so much x factor and game breaking ability is a worry.

Maybe we should build a wall around Concord.

Maybe so. They are trying to build a winning culture and all these Kiwis do not bring that with them.

Tell that to the All Blacks

Do they play Rugby League? I stand corrected then.

Ive been saying this about the warriors the last couple of years. Everyone in nz gets so excited that theyve pretty much signed the entire kiwis squad in the last few years… however theyre blind to the fact that the kiwis squad is hopeless!

I think the difference with the tigers' signings is the fact that its generally the kiwis/warriors big names that contribute to poor culture/performance... not frige players.

I.E shaun johnson, adam blair, isaac luke are the tyoes to be questioned.

Matulinos not been a "big name" for a few seasons now and hasnt done too much to be criticized on.

Packer threw that intercept in the world cup but apart from that hes more or less on the same page as matulino.

Godinets never been given the opportunity to have a winning or losing impact on a team and elijah taylor is aparently our best player.

I suppose it could be seen as concerning that we are signing all these kiwis but in my opinion its nothing to worry about until we start signing kiwi "superstars" (johnson, luke etc)

With Tui at fullback Reynolds and Brooks in half’s and Marshall Utility ….. and with couple of injuries to that lot ....... I can’t really see too much cover apart from Gamble and he is in the untested basket.
