Not sure where to post link, as idk if the Latrell thread still exists, but find his comments in article could be useful or constructive for club recruitment and management.

*The 23-year-old, who is aiming to extend his deal at Redfern, spoke in detail for the first time about his meeting with the Cowboys - something that was arranged as he was en route to Cairns for a holiday - and his Taree coffee date with Tigers coach Michael Maguire.*

*While he was tempted by the country lifestyle the Cowboys offered, Mitchell said the Tigers tabled a deal worth north of $1m a season.*

*"It was big money - we're talking big money - but I said to myself, 'If I go there, will I be happy and the player I want to be?','' Mitchell said.*

*"People will see I'm on over $1m ... I didn't need that pressure yet, with the money side [of things]. I thought, 'Souths are keen, I'll take a pay cut and go and play with them, challenge myself and play with some elite players'.*

*"The Tigers had Benji [Marshall] and good players. But they didn't have the foundation. They played good this year and it was grouse to see.*

*But they didn't have your Cody Walkers and Adam Reynolds, boys who have played together for years - the three players in the spine (along with Damien Cook) have played for four or five years already.*

*"Benji was in and out [of the halves], Luke Brooks was in and out, they [the Tigers] just couldn't find that balance. I was like, 'I can't go there yet'. If there was an opportunity later on, maybe.*

I’ve heard similar about other players we wanted to sign. Instead of selling the club we just throw big money at them and expect people to just sign because of that. I know for a fact we missed Sean Keppie because of it.

Latrells right we need the foundations there a solid spine at least hopefully we can have some stability there next season

Why would we throw big money at Sean Keppie?

Not huge money, but they gave him a good offer for a rookie, better than other clubs assuming he would take it, and he took less money to go to manly. Hasler sold the club better and appealed to Sean more so can’t blame him. This was a while ago before he’d even played

Interesting isn’t it.
I made a point about how the Titans have recruited this year and how the outcome would be viewed as although an expensive one it hard to argue it wasn’t successful.

In that topic I remember a back and forth conversation with others saying we just need to give them more money in terms of attracting potential recruits.

Latrell’s on the money and I’m not sure a year of finding our style is enough to entice JAC either.

We should probably start our recruitment like the Titans did by looking at the players now free to sign with other clubs for 2022 and retain who we deem as our ‘core’. the foundation players that will be at the club in 5 years time. Following that a few complementary signings then start rolling out the carpet to land the bigger fishes.

Money doesn’t always get the big players.

Stability is important, not just on the field but off it. You’re spot on we need to secure a core group of good players for on the field but we need to make sure our coaches and all the staff can stick around as well. Some more astute signings like Luciano will do us a world of good we just need to get our spine set. Seems like we’ve got different guys there every year!

Players won’t join if there’s a whole new roster of coaching staff every year and the head coach goes every 18 months. Think that’s why the club wants to keep Madge on for some stability to help us sign players.

What I find strange is players don't have long careers and / or could be cut short anytime E.g. Broncos Jharal Yow Yeh... I personally think he is getting money on the side or by other ways as to give up 600k a year is just hard to believe.... But good for him and he brought up some good points we can learn from.

He wouldnt know the meaning of the word "challenge" going from back 2 back premiers to a team who consistently make top 4.

My apologies if I’ve missed it but I haven’t seen any discussion on Mansour?

I know us being linked is all media speculation. But I’d be interested to gauge people’s interest?

I think he’d be a great signing. The dude is still a beast, thought he had a great year.

Always first guy to put his hand up for a dirty hit up, great finisher and great club man.

I would love a wing combo of Nofo and Mansour. I’m a Kepoa fan as well but that just adds more competition. Mbye might find himself without a spot if he doesn’t show something more.

we certainly wouldn't be worse, but isn't the club angling for younger players?

Yes sounds like just the sort of hysteria the daily tele would spew up.

Seriously there is no way in hell he’s going to be allowed to keep playing if a hit to the head would kill him. Even just writing that sentence reduced my IQ.

Without looking it up he played pretty much every game this year. He’s infamous for looking after his body. I’m not concerned about his body at all.

Perfect example of a media team getting positive stories out about the club and player. We are so far behind this it’s not funny. I know I bang on about it but I’m really tired of the no speak to media thing. Sets us back so far, imagine if they’d were on our side now or during latrell signings.
