I still boggles my mind we won't release him. At best we're coming what? 11th? 12th? Hastings might be unproven at NRL level but Brooks has proven he's average at his absolute best, so what's there to lose? We save cap space, give Madden/another fringe FGer/young bloke a run and see what they're like, and then at midseason go forward with Doueihi and Hastings in the halves.

Depth.
We need someone in case Hastings gets injured.

I think it depends on what you call depth. I thought it was an nrl quality player to replace an nrl quality player. Couldn’t say we have that.

Exactly, the only reason I would experiment with Madden is if Brooks had signed a contract with Newcastle even then you would have to look at disruption of team growth eg. Hastings Gillart and Peachey. Journalists are still pushing Brooks to Knights so maybe this will go like I've stated anyway. I feal Brooks will lose his gig soon and that's why his management are pushing for security, the only thing stopping the immediate release is $$ and for Brooks to request it, IMO.

The bottom line, why would Brooks want to go to Newie? He is on big bucks at the Tigers, close to home and the Tigers prospects are close to the Knights and long term probably better.

Okay if the club is pushing him that’s a different matter, but it seems the Tigers are happy to have Brooks in the spine. Personally I am happy for Brooks to stay unless we have a gun lined up and they are rare as hens teeth

Your not the first to say that Demps about Brooks and AD's injury, we have to play with what we've got. Have you thought of it this way, headlines read.....Brooks shines in shaken up Weststigers side starring Peachey, AD, Hastings, Gildart and Laurie.
I would rather be in this position than chasing Brooks to sign.
I'm praying for another big bopper to go with Stefs extension 🤞

Glad you're not picking the team.2022 has already been written off by Sheens and by reports Brooks interest in Newcastle is real too. Time to invest in a new half whether that is Madden or Tannous and give them at least half a pre-season to build their combinations.

Bizarre article. States Knights have a 650k 'warchest', to sign 2 players. So at max 550k for Brooks. With Knights have no suitable players to swap.

They can like all they want, they currently have nothing to offer us

Anyone notice how the contract money Brooks is on changes to suit the story? I’ve seen everything from $650k per year for next 2 years (apparently what Knights have available to lure him away) to $900k per season which is what WTs are supposedly paying him. I wish I could just make crap up everyday and call it my career!
