Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Sorry, did anyone expect a top-quality signing in November to fill spot #29 in our roster? Expectations people.

Yep anyone thinking signings 29 and 30 will turn our season on its head are dreaming

We aren't the Roosters ,Cronulla etc

Probably looking at value for your buck at this stage, hopefully 30 might be backrower with some experience , let's wait and see

Well with RTS & Norman wanting out of their current clubs, the possibility of Gutherson or French being forced out now Hayne has returned and Walmsley Being chased by NRL clubs, then yeah I was kinda expecting a better signing, even in November!

I would be very pleased if that is what we get it is still a weak position

Probably not great for fan morale discussing/ announcing this signing in a week when the Knights have been successful in thwarting the Sharks and Manly in getting Pearces signature.

I feel…underwhelmed with this signing. Hope Godinet is good for depth though.

I can't believe the hate this signing is getting. Firstly, he isn't horrible. To get a guy with 60 first grade games worth of experience for minimum wage is pretty damn good. But more importantly this allows us to prepare for a bigger signing. Yossarian said he's on a minimum contract meaning that we've now got about 700k or 800k left to spend on a more high profile player which could still be French, Gutherson etc. The choice is between two average players at about 400k each or Godinet on minimum wage and a much bigger signing. You'd be crazy to go for two average players with the amount of depth we've already got.

**Wests Tigers sign Pita Godinet**

Wests Tigers have today confirmed the signing of Samoan international Pita Godinet for the coming season.

Godinet has played 61 career games since making his first-grade debut for the New Zealand Warriors in 2011, moving to Wakefield Trinity Wildcats in 2014 for two seasons before returning to the NRL with the Manly-Warrinhah Sea Eagles.

He has also played 10 Tests for Samoa, having recently featured in the 2017 Rugby League World Cup campaign.

Wests Tigers Head Coach Ivan Cleary welcomed Godinet to the club.

“Pita is an experienced player who is capable of playing every position in the spine, which is a great asset for our squad,” Cleary said. “He has plenty of experience in big games with Samoa, and we look forward to him joining Wests Tigers in 2018.”

Wests Tigers CEO echoed Cleary’s welcome to Godinet.

“On behalf of everyone at the club I’d like to welcome Pita to Wests Tigers,” said Pascoe. “We’ve built a squad that offers depth across the park and we look forward to seeing Pita add to that when he joins us.

“We’re entering an exciting time for Wests Tigers and we look forward to having Pita as a part of that,” he said.

Well for mine when you looked at our 28 squad players for next year it seemed that a a spine utility particularly to cover 1/2 and/or 5/8 was lacking.
So for mine it seems a reasonable low cost addition which may prove successful short term addition.
Now the search for a good quality full back should be a priority.

We probably needed the cover, but like someone else stated, Marshall-King could have done that job for us.

By paying massive overs…not much of an achievement.

Cant bag the Knights for how they have managed their cap. They have bought very well and secured some great players in positions that they needed and when they wanted Pearce they had the money to blow the other more fancied clubs out of the water.

The Knights have just signed Junior Roqica as a depth signing. I wonder if the Knights forum is going as ballistic as here about a depth signing?

I reckon Knights have done alright, not great.

Ese'ese is a goer but in a strong Broncos pack.

Guerra is very definitely on the downhill of his career, though he can still offer plenty of experience, though I personally doubt the pay packet.

Moga is hot and cold. This will be his 4th club in 6 years, Broncos only had him 1 season. I think there is a reason for all that I reckon.

SKD, Heighno and Lilyman all pretty average IMO. Not the worst signings but very definitely unwanted by former or indeed most clubs.

Ponga could be anything, so question mark is the price. But that's what it costs to bring boom juniors to struggling clubs.

Watson is pretty good though not proven. Worth the gamble and a good signing IMO.

Pearce is the real diamond here. Quality FG footballer in a position the Knights have struggled for a decade.

But I don't believe those signings are particularly better than ours, except probably Pearce. But Newy have done what we've done - not use up entire roster and instead wait for the right players to become available.

I think they had a pretty weak roster 2017 that needed a lot of boosting, so they've picked up a bunch of reject experienced footballers.

Not sure I understand letting a low cost young utility like Marshall King go and signing a never has been 29 year old Goodinet. Real head scratcher but at minimum wage no real issue. I assume this means we are holding one spot with 700-800k in cap room for next year.

Agree with this. Would have preferred Marshall-king to fill this utility/hooker spot and give him the chance to train with his bro. Obviously Ivan didn’t think he had what we need.

Seriously if we were injury ravaged and the 3rd or 4th hooker or half went down you would go for a 22 yr old who has played 1 FG game and other then that never made it out of reserve grade over a 29 yr old with 60+ games of first grade across Australia and NZ across halves and hooker and who has made his debut under our coach who clearly knows and values him and who has also played previously at hooker with our 2 starting props. Well I am glad Ivan is coach not you guys because thats crazy

And also played in two World Cups.

All rumours, don't get your hopes up. I'm pretty sure you'll hear real media movement a la Pearce, Moylan, Maloney, Green, if any of those guys are really set to move.

If you really want to know there is an easy way to find out

I was fairly certain that we DID actually offer Marshall-King a spot, in ISP like Bailey Sironen, and then a better deal came along at another club, which he took.

Fair enough, good luck to him.

Given Pascoe has made it clear that #30 on the Roster could be filled anytime before June 30 I dont expect any announcements soon.

100% correct…Marshall King actually signed with the WT then back flipped to join the Dogs during the 10 day cooling off period.
