Simona on the move

As I said about ten pages ago, Simona is short odds to join the Chargers, but as for Zillman as a trade, just do not get what we would gain

An outside back who is more effective than the one we have for better value.

People who rave about Simona never seem to be able to back it with any stats. Makes few line breaks, can't put his winger away and is average defensively. The only thing he really has is speed and even that seem to desert him over the last two years.

Hope he proves me wrong but if we can fill his spot with an average outside back on half is wage, I would take the deal in a heartbeat.

Zillman is badly busted (I can't recall how many knee reconstructions he has had) and is not in the same ball park as Simona in terms of skill, pace etc, But he is cheap and that is all that counts apparently at this club,

Besides the halves and Teddy, he had the club's most try-assists and linebreak-assists in 2015 before he was lumbered with Rankin. 3rd in line-breaks in 2015, 5th last year.

I'd rather have Simona than Zillman any day

I probably would too. My point is we are paying massive overs for Simona based on his contribution to the team. Mainly because he signed his current deal when he was in a rich vein of form.

As 2041 said about Canberra (re Dugan, Ferguson), and you can add Carney, player retention needs to be based on value for money. Simon at 400 to 600k isn't value for money. You could get a centre with similar level of contribution for 300k.

If the Simona story is true, its good to see the club is trying to rectify its problem of paying top dollars for average players.

Have heard some interesting news from a mate at the Titans that both parties have discussed a trade with Tim Simona and Will Zillman. Zillman is on 650K but if the Titans contribute to a large portion of that salary, the Tigers would be keen for a swap deal. Leivaha Pulu was also discussed as a potential sweetener for the deal but Titans arent budging as Neil Henry likes him. Either way it sounds as thought Tim Simona will be headed to the GC.

I really can't see why Simona would be going to the Titans .. and besides the Titans have Konrad Hurrell and British import Dan Sarginson to fill the centres, then Jarryd Hayne, Anthony Don, Nathan Davis and John Olive to fill their outside back slots .. the only chance Simona would have playing there is if there is an injury or maybe slotting in on the wing.

Simon stands a better chance staying with us, I 'd have him in the centres with Idris, or out on the wing. But who would you rather have in the centres with Idris .. Naiqama or Simona

Our supposed strike centre is fifth in line breaks? And you think that is decent?

Yes I also tend to think that Simona is a victim of those around him in regards to stats.

Imagine the opposition… "don't worry too much about Rankin, the cover defence will round him up - concentrate more on Simona..."

Similar with those defending near him too.

Would of taken Wilma Zillman 10 years ago but he is that far past his best it isn't funny. Might as well get Chicka Ferguson out of the retirement village.

Oh, I'm not raving about him or calling him a strike centre. Just pointing out his stats were half-decent before Rankin.

Someone agrees with me Re the MYTH , the sooner he is packed of the better what a show. Pony!

Simona has been our best center over the last few years.Lawrence didnt have the speed or lateral movement and kevie is ghastly in defence. If Idris dosent perform for whatever reason we wont have a decent center in the club if Simona is moved on.We would be weaker in the backline than last year.

I think a lot of people are forgetting Simona played through the back half of last season with a couple of injuries simply because we didn't have the depth to cover him.
The guy is still only 25 and we all know what he is capable of. Remember the Storm at Leichhardt a few seasons back.
If you need a reminder of how good he can be just check out his highlights reel from last season on the player profile on the official Weststigers site!
This will be a watershed year for Timmy but I believe we haven't seen the best of him yet!
I for one are hoping we can keep him.

That was round 16 2013 killed them on the wing.

some fans are so 'Lawrence blinded' they cannot see that Simona is by far our best center in the last 5 years

I'm not sure if it's ever been mentioned here before but Pullu was a Keebra/wests tigers boy that didn't work out. I thought he was very good for an old rookie for the Titans last year.

For whatever reason we just don't seem to be able to get the best out of the big, raw forwards. Obvious problems with the system at the club that need to be looked at (not because of Pullu specifically) but there are plenty of examples like Fafita, Teo, Blair, Brown etc that were/are good at other clubs but delivered junk for us or we couldn't tame their behavior appropriately. At the same time we've historically been loaded with the Fulton/Lovette/Santi type forward so it should have been a priority to uncover or breed a mad raring lunatic but we persist with the bog-average battler who works hard but in reality just isn't even up to first grade standard.

Don't know if Womac was to blame but hard to pin it on the big boned one without attributing primary blame to so many others.

I totally get the flack Simona has copped the last 12 months. He had a crap year by his standards/ability and made some poor decisions at times. But I don't understand people knocking his defense. Pound for pound he'd have to be the hardest hitter at the club. He regularly puts big blokes down on first contact and puts opposing centers flat on their ass all the time. He needs to get more involved in offense and with the hard yakka but he can definitely put on a dominant tackle and flatten a bloke. One of the few at the entire club who can do that. If we're shopping him around without a replacement in mind the club has lost the plot.

Agree, my concern with Simona is injury, he is always coming back from injury or playing injured.

Sadly he is our best centre by far. If you want to run out with Idris and Kev good luck. It's too much of a risk see how he goes in a contract year and then make a decision. I'm sick of losing players because Taylor can't get along with people. If it's for Copley at least he is semi capable but if no centre of quality is coming back in trade why release him?

Firstly, where did you get the idea Simona and Taylor don't get along?

Secondly, we've already shopped around Rankin, Lovett and Kev, if rumours are to be believed. Hardly playing favourites.
