Tigers roar on ticketing front

Wests Tigers yesterday had the biggest day of ticket sales for a premiership match in the 13-year history of the joint venture.

With Tigers chief executive Stephen Humphries this week warning that matches at Leichhardt Oval could soon be filled by the club's ever-growing membership base, Cronulla and Tigers fans yesterday snapped up tickets for the March 3 clash when they went on sale.

It is expected the match will sell out early next week after Sharks members and Tigers non-ticketed members took advantage of a three-hour window to buy tickets yesterday before they went on sale to the general public.

Tigers sales and marketing general manager Brett Clarke said the club had also sold more than 750 new memberships yesterday, with the club offering a range of deals from one-game memberships for the season opener to tickets for all 12 home games.

Clarke said the Tigers had about 3000 more members than the corresponding time last season. They finished with 9154 members.

The NRL said this week that it would not force clubs to provide an allocation of tickets for supporters of away teams if their own members were able to fill the ground but Clarke said the Tigers wanted Cronulla fans to attend the match.

So I remember to a time, standing on the hill with about three, maybe four thousand tigers fans. We all watched the team get beat, wondering if perhaps one day we'd see a bright future….

How good is it now?
There really are so many reasons to complain

Firstly the Game is on March 4 (Sunday).

750 Memberships in 0ne day that is amasing.

9154 Members,i wonder if that is _**Ticketed Members only**_ or the Grand total.I think it is Ticketed Members only as when i spoke to some one at the club last week they said the Memberships had just past 10000 Members.

Finally i feel it is a good thing that the NRL will not force any club to provide opposing teams with garanteed tickets if they can fill the ground with memebers only.

So True!

Can't remember ever feeling this exited about the start of the footy season!

Sure there will be ups and downs during the season, wouldn't be the Wests Tigers without them.

Just love this team and the club :sign:

I remember those days kul. Getting a beer or food was easy and I remember being able to actually lie (and still not be obstructed!) on the hill and watch there was that much room. On a Saturday it was watch the game at leic with the boys then head out for the night! Great times

The man knows how to play the media. Ever since he planted the "Leichhardt members only" story membership sales have gone gangbusters.

But I was lead to believe humpty was destroying the club. I am confused.

I remember those days all to well.

Our darkest days however were pre merger, playing at Parra….
calling ourselves the Sydney Tigers, we were barely a club, I went to just about every game in Sydney in 96, and never saw us a win.

The 9,145 figure was a reference to last year's total. They're apparently now 3,000 over the figure they were at this time last year.

So if you were told they currently have 10,000 members that could mean they had 7,000 at this time last year and that the end of year total for this season could end up significantly above last year's total.
